Background: Umbilical lesions in pigs have a negative impact on animal welfare and productivity. It has been suggested that lifting young piglets by one hind leg may be a risk factor for developing omphalitis and umbilical hernia. However, the hypothesis that lifting piglets by one hind leg should stretch the umbilical wall and impede the healing of the umbilicus has not yet been investigated.

Chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA), methylation-specific multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MS-MLPA), and trio-whole exome sequencing (WES) were performed in a female fetus with omphalocele. A de novo heterozygous 300-kb deletion in the Xq13.1 region, which includes the MED12 gene, was identified.

Background: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy has become the most popular weight loss surgery currently, but it inevitably leaves multiple small scars in the abdomen. Although the appearance of single-incision laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy achieve better cosmetic results, it may lead to postoperative complications such as umbilical hernia and umbilical infection. The author has developed a new surgical approach that can compensate for these deficiencies, which we called needlescopic laparoscope sleeve gastrectomy (NLSG).

Aims This study aims to analyse the type of repair and post-op outcomes for individuals who underwent surgical intervention and presented with symptomatic abdominal wall hernia as an emergency. It highlights the importance of timely elective hernia management in lowering emergency presentations and any related complications. Background Abdominal wall hernias are common surgical conditions that can present electively or as emergencies, with emergency cases being associated with higher complication rates.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between linea alba width and unclosed pediatric umbilical hernias.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on patients with pediatric umbilical hernias persisting beyond the age of 2, from April 2014 to March 2021. Additionally, data from children who underwent computed tomography (CT) for other conditions or injuries, such as diarrhea or traffic accidents, were collected from April 2010 to March 2022.

Bladder exstrophy-epispadias-cloacal exstrophy complex (BEEC) is a spectrum of congenital urologic anomalies that involve the bladder, urethra, genitalia, and pelvic musculoskeletal system, and can affect urinary continence, sexual health, and fertility. BEEC includes a wide spectrum of anatomical abnormalities with different levels of severity: epispadias represents the mildest phenotype, classic bladder exstrophy (CBE) is the most common defect, and cloacal exstrophy (CE) - often referred to as omphalocele, exstrophy, imperforate anus, and spinal defects (OEIS) complex - is the most severe form. BEEC disorders cause significant health problems and affect the health-related quality of life (QoL) of affected individuals.

Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) comprise clinical conditions with high genetic heterogeneity and a notable enrichment of genes involved in regulating chromatin structure and function. The EHMT1/2 epigenetic complex plays a crucial role in repression of gene transcription in a highly tissue- and temporal-specific manner. Mutations resulting in heterozygous loss-of-function (LoF) of EHMT1 are implicated in Kleefstra syndrome 1 (KS1).

Introduction When an organ, such as the colon, pushes through the wall of the abdominal cavity, a hernia results. After femoral and inguinal hernias, umbilical hernias account for the third most common kind of abdominal hernia in adults precipitated by conditions such as obesity, ascites, and repeated pregnancies. A subtype of umbilical hernias called paraumbilical hernias is more likely to cause problems such as rupture, skin ulceration, and obstruction.

Background: Ectopic thyroid is a rare disease, with ectopic thyroid in the porta hepatis being extremely rare. We present a rare case involving an infant with biliary atresia (BA) wherein ectopic thyroid tissue was incidentally discovered in the porta hepatis after the Kasai operation.
Case Description: A 2-month-old boy initially presented with jaundice, manifesting as yellow skin and sclera, on the first day following birth.

Importance: Although the use of robotic-assisted ventral hernia repairs has increased significantly over the last decade, the experience surgeons need to achieve comparable outcomes with more established laparoscopic and open approaches has not been well characterized.
Objective: To estimate the learning curves for robotic-assisted ventral (incisional and umbilical) hernia repair.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This retrospective cohort study included Medicare fee-for-service patients (≥18 years) enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B with no managed care undergoing ventral hernia repairs between 2010 and 2020.

Background: Umbilical outpouchings (UO) are common in Danish weaners. In slaughter pigs UOs consist of various pathological diagnoses; however, no studies have assessed the pathology in weaners from randomly selected herds, nor the agreement between clinical examination findings and post-mortem results. The primary objective was to estimate the prevalence of UO-related clinical findings in weaners before euthanasia and the pathologic macroscopic findings after euthanasia.

The deep inferior epigastric perforator artery (DIEP) free flap is the most commonly performed autologous breast reconstruction. Despite the relative reduction in donor site complications compared to nonmuscle-sparing options, there is still high morbidity associated with this surgery. The purpose of this study is to compare outcomes and complications at our institution and to discuss potential quality improvement initiatives.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the surgical outcomes of open appendectomy (OA) and laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) for pediatric acute appendicitis in order to guide its future management.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective study including all children under the age of 14 years, who underwent appendectomy for acute appendicitis, during a period of 6 years (2013-2018). We divided our patients in two groups based on the surgical modality: the laparoscopic and open group.

Introduction: Perinatal asphyxia is caused by a lack of oxygen to organ systems due to hypoxic or ischemic insult that occurs during labour and delivery. This may lead to multi-organ failure with brain involvement as the major organ of concern.
Case Report: We present a 19-day-old neonate referred to our centre with the complaint of inability to suck since birth and multiple seizures that started on the second day of life.
