Article Synopsis
  • Radiotherapy is a common treatment for breast cancer, but patients respond differently due to variations in their intrinsic radiosensitivity (RS). Researchers are exploring alternatives to the standard clonogenic assay for predicting RS.
  • In this study, blood samples from 10 breast cancer patients were analyzed using clonogenic, γ-H2AX, and apoptosis assays to evaluate their RS levels, revealing three distinct RS groups: high, medium, and low.
  • Results indicated that high RS patients had fewer double-strand breaks in their DNA, but their DNA repair systems were less active compared to others. The study concluded that using a combination of assays is necessary for more accurate predictions of intrinsic RS in breast cancer patients.

Background: Breast cancer (BC), as a significant global health problem, is the most common cancer in women. Despite the importance of clinical cancer registries in improving the quality of cancer care and cancer research, there are few reports on them from low- and middle-income countries. We established a multicenter clinical breast cancer registry in Iran (CBCR-IR) to collect data on BC cases, the pattern of care, and the quality-of-care indicators in different hospitals across the country.

Lung lesions can increase the CT number and affect the water-equivalent diameter (Dw), Dw-based conversion factor (CFw), and Dw-based size-specific dose estimate (SSDEw). We evaluated the effect of COVID-19 lesions and total severity score (TSS) on radiation dose considering the effect of automatic tube current modulation (ATCM) and fixed tube current (FTC). A total of 186 chest CT scans were categorised into five TSS groups, including healthy, minimal, mild, moderate and severe.

Background: We carried out the current study to compare COVID-19-related hospitalization and mortality rates between people living with multiple sclerosis (PLWMS) and MS-free controls from the Isfahan general population.

Method: In this retrospective population-based study, we used available data from four datasets of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences from January 1, 2020, to August 22, 2021. Data on all PLWMS, SARS-CoV-2 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and rapid antigen test, hospitalization, and death were included.

Objective: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic had a significant impact on pregnant women and neonates in Iran. This retrospective study describes the national experience among neonates having suspected and confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection following hospital admission to examine the epidemiology, demographic, and clinical features.

Study Design: All nationwide cases of suspected and confirmed neonatal SARS-CoV-2 infection were drawn from the Iranian Maternal and Neonatal Network (IMaN) between February 2020 and February 2021.

Background: The objective of the present study was to estimate the effectiveness of the BBIBP-CorV vaccine (VE) in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection, related hospitalization, and death among people living with multiple sclerosis (PLWMS).

Methods: In this population-based retrospective observational study, data on all PLWMS, vaccination, SARS-CoV-2 tests, hospitalization, and deaths were collected in Isfahan, Iran between February 9, 2021, and November 4, 2021. We estimated the hazard ratio between vaccinated (partially and fully) and unvaccinated groups using the Andersen-Gill extension of the Cox proportional hazards model.

Three-Dimensional Models: A Promising Tool To Scale-Up Breast Cancer Research.

ACS Biomater Sci Eng

November 2022

Applied Physiology Research Center, Cardiovascular Research Institute, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, Isfahan 81746 73461, Iran.

Common models used in breast cancer studies, including two-dimensional (2D) cultures and animal models, do not precisely model all aspects of breast tumors. These models do not well simulate the cell-cell and cell-stromal interactions required for normal tumor growth in the body and lake tumor like microenvironment. Three-dimensional (3D) cell culture models are novel approaches to studying breast cancer.

Myocarditis is heart muscle inflammation that is becoming more prevalent these days, especially with the prevalence of COVID-19. Noninvasive imaging cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) can be used to diagnose myocarditis, but the interpretation is time-consuming and requires expert physicians. Computer-aided diagnostic systems can facilitate the automatic screening of CMR images for triage.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a prevalent disease with high morbidity and mortality rates. Invasive coronary angiography is the reference standard for diagnosing CAD but is costly and associated with risks. Noninvasive imaging like cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) facilitates CAD assessment and can serve as a gatekeeper to downstream invasive testing.
