Objective: To identify the variations in the location of the nerves that may be at risk in hallux valgus (HV) surgery, and to reveal whether these nerves are affected by the anatomical changes associated with HV.

Method: In the formalin fixed, 46 lower extremities (19 female, 27 male) (9 normal, 14 mild HV, 21 moderate/severe HV), extensor hallucis longus tendon (EHL), deep plantar artery, medial dorsal cutaneous (MDCN), deep fibular (DFN), common plantar digital (CPDN) and proper plantar digital (PPDN) nerves were examined. The branches of MDCN extending to the medial side of foot were recorded in three segments.

In vitro and in vivo investigation of Argiope bruennichi spider silk-based novel biomaterial for medical use.

As a natural and biocompatible material with high strength and flexibility, spider silk is frequently used in biomedical studies. In this study, the availability of Argiope bruennichi spider silk as a surgical suture material was investigated. The effects of spider silk-based and commercial sutures, with and without Aloe vera coating, on wound healing were evaluated by a rat dorsal skin flap model, postoperatively (7th and 14th days).

Effects of land use/cover change on heavy metal distribution of soils in wetlands and ecological risk assessment.

This study aimed to determine the impact of land use/cover changes on the heavy metal content in the Sultan Marshland and surrounding area and assess the pollution status. 54 topsoil samples (0-20 cm) were collected from the Rangeland, Farmland, Scrubland, Southern Marshland, Northern Marshland, and Dry Lake areas. The heavy metal contents of the soil samples (Cr, Pb, Fe, Zn, Cu, Co, Mn, Cd, Mo, As, and Ni) were determined using ICP-MS and ICP-OES devices.

The Effect of Irrational Relationship Beliefs on Attitudes Toward Intimate Partner Violence in Emerging Adults: Moderating Effect of Gender.

Attitudes toward intimate partner violence (IPVA) can be considered as approval/acceptance or disapproval/nonacceptance of physical violence against the intimate partner, psychological abuse, and control of the intimate partner. Individual (such as antisocial tendencies and irrational relationship beliefs [IRB]) and social factors (such as traditional norms and beliefs) shape IPVA. Studies on intimate partner violence (IPV) have revealed a significant relationship between IPVA and IPV.

Posttraumatic growth in women after a childbirth experience: The influence of individual characteristics and intrusive and deliberate rumination.

Objective: This study targets women who had a self-defined traumatic childbirth experience to (a) explore the differences between sociodemographic-, obstetric-, and trauma-related variables in relation to the rumination style; (b) determine differences between intrusive and deliberate rumination in relation to posttraumatic growth (PTG) dimensions, and (c) test whether intrusive rumination is associated with deliberate rumination, which in turn is associated with PTG dimensions.

Method: A cross-sectional study design was employed using a web-based survey method for data collection. In total, 202 women who identified their childbirth experience as traumatic participated in this study.

Cardiac autonomic involvement in Huntington's disease.

Introduction: Huntington's disease (HD) is known as a neurodegenerative disease with movement disorder and cognitive impairment; autonomic involvement is also becoming common in some recent studies. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the presence of cardiac autonomic involvement in HD patients.

Method: Time and frequency domain parameters obtained from the 24-h Holter ECG(hECG) were compared between 20 HD patients and 20 healthy control subjects.

Analysis of pupillary responses in pediatric patients with vitamin D deficiency.

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of vitamin D deficiency on pupillary responses in the pediatric population.

Methods: The study was conducted using data from the right eyes of 52 children with vitamin D deficiency and 52 healthy children. Measurements were taken under static and dynamic conditions with automatic pupillometry.

Background: Bisphenol A (BPA) is an environmental contaminant with endocrine-disrupting properties that induce fetal growth restriction (FGR). Previous studies on pregnant ewes revealed that BPA exposure causes placental apoptosis and oxidative stress (OS) and decreases placental efficiency, consequently leading to FGR. Nonetheless, the response of gut microbiota to BPA exposure and its role in aggravating BPA-mediated apoptosis, autophagy, mitochondrial dysfunction, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), and OS of the maternal placenta and intestine are unclear in an ovine model of gestation.

The Turkish adaptation of the Adherence to Asthma Medication Questionnaire.

Background: This study was conducted to adapt the Adherence to Asthma Medication Questionnaire (AAMQ-13) into Turkish.

Methods: The research was conducted in the pulmonology outpatient clinic of a state hospital in Nigde/Turkey. The sample consisted of 229 volunteers with asthma for at least one year.

Aim: The aim of the study was to compare serum ferritin and iron levels and periodontal status in pre- and post-menopausal female patients.

Materials And Methods: A total of 108 systemically healthy patients were included in the study, 63 patients in the pre-menopause group and 45 patients in the post-menopause group. The periodontal diagnosis was made according to the new periodontal disease classification of the American Academy of Periodontology and the European Federation of Periodontology Serum Iron (μg/dL) and Serum Ferritin (ng/mL) values were analysed in patients divided into groups according to menopausal status and periodontal status.

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures are one of the most extensively studied injuries in the field of orthopedics, but despite the extensive research, graft selection for ACL reconstruction remains a matter of debate. The present study aims to evaluate the stiffness and elasticity of native ACLs using texture profile analysis and compare results with those of autografts used in ACL reconstruction.

The following extraction conditions were implemented: microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) at 900 W power for durations of 30, 60, and 90 s; ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) at 100% amplitude for periods of 5, 10, and 15 min; and high-pressure processing (HPP) at pressures of 400 and 500 MPa for durations of 1, 5, and 10 min. The highest yield in terms of total phenolic content (PC) was obtained in UAE with a value of 45.

How effective is machine learning in stock market predictions?

In this study, it is aimed to compare the performances of the algorithms by predicting the movement directions of stock market indexes in developed countries by employing machine learning algorithms (MLMs) and determining the best estimation algorithm. For this purpose, the movement directions of indexes such as the NYSE 100 (the USA), NIKKEI 225 (Japan), FTSE 100 (the UK), CAC 40 (France), DAX 30 (Germany), FTSE MIB (Italy), and TSX (Canada) were estimated by employing the decision tree, random forest k-nearest neighbor, naive Bayes, logistic regression, support vector machines and artificial neural network algorithms. According to the results obtained, artificial neural networks were found to be the best algorithm for NYSE 100, FTSE 100, DAX 30 and FTSE MIB indices, while logistic regression was determined to be the best algorithm for the NIKKEI 225, CAC 40, and TSX indices.
