Artificial Doctors: Performance of Chatbots as a Tool for Patient Education on Keratoconus.

Purpose: We aimed to compare the answers given by ChatGPT, Bard, and Copilot and that obtained from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) website to patient-written questions related to keratoconus in terms of accuracy, understandability, actionability, and readability to find out whether chatbots can be used in patient education.

Methods: Twenty patient-written questions obtained from the AAO website related to keratoconus were asked to ChatGPT, Bard, and Copilot. Two ophthalmologists independently assessed the answers obtained from chatbots and the AAO website in terms of accuracy, understandability, and actionability according to the Structure of Observed Learning Outcome taxonomy, Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool-Understandability, and Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool-Actionability tests, respectively.

Background: Predicting mortality and morbidity poses a significant challenge to physicians, leading to the development of various scoring systems. Among these, the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte and platelet (HALP) score evaluates a patient's nutritional and immune status. The primary aim of this study was to determine the predictive effect of the HALP score on 30-day and 1-year mortality in elderly patients with proximal femoral fractures (PFFs).

The structure of the multidimensional scale of perceived social support: a meta-analytic confirmatory factor analysis.

One of the most popular instruments used to assess perceived social support is the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Although the original structure of the MSPSS was defined to include three specific factors (significant others, friends and family), studies in the literature propose different factor solutions. In this study, we addressed the controversial factor structure of the MSPSS using a meta-analytic confirmatory factor analysis approach.

Psychiatric Sequelae in Adult Open Globe Injury Patients.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate psychiatric sequelae in open globe injury patients and to identify the risk factors associated with these sequelae.

Methods: After a complete ophthalmologic examination, Davidson Trauma Scale (DTS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and Zung Depression Scale (ZDS) scores were administered to all patients. Patients were divided into 5 groups according to final best corrected visual acuity (BCVA): group 1 (no perception of light, NPL), group 2 [perception of light (PL) or hand movements (HM)], group 3 (1/200 to 19/200), group 4 (20/200 to 20/50), and group 5 (20/40 or above).

This study investigates the structural and luminescent properties UV radiation of Tb³⁺-doped K₇CaY₂(B₅O₁₀)₃ (KCYBO) phosphors prepared using a microwave-assisted sol-gel method, with a focus on the impact of Na⁺ co-doping. Tb³⁺ ions were effectively integrated as evidenced by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Rietveld analysis, without disrupting the crystal structure. Photoluminescence (PL) analysis showed intense green emissions at 542 nm, which are due to the D₄ → F₅ transition in Tb³⁺.

The aim of this study was to analyse the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the renal inpatient nutrition screening tool (Renal iNUT) for haemodialysis patients. The Renal iNUT and the malnutrition universal screening tool (MUST) were used in adult haemodialysis patients at two different centres to identify malnutrition. The subjective global assessment (SGA), regarded as the gold standard for nutritional status assessment, was utilised for comparison.

Predicting Prognosis of Early-Stage Mycosis Fungoides with Utilization of Machine Learning.

Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most prevalent type of cutaneous T cell lymphomas. Studies on the prognosis of MF are limited, and no research exists on the potential of artificial intelligence to predict MF prognosis. This study aimed to compare the predictive capabilities of various machine learning (ML) algorithms in predicting progression, treatment response, and relapse and to assess their predictive power against that of the Cox proportional hazards (CPH) model in patients with early-stage MF.
