This controlled study investigated metabolic changes in non-vaccinated individuals with Long-COVID-19, along with their connection to the severity of the disease. The study involved 88 patients who experienced varying levels of initial disease severity (mild, moderate, and severe), and a control group of 29 healthy individuals. Metabolic risk markers from fasting blood samples were analyzed, and data regarding disease severity indicators were collected.

This was a retrospective, serial cross-sectional study of the National Inpatient Sample database from 2007 to 2016, identifying patients ≤18 years hospitalized with acute myocarditis.

Adrenal disorders may manifest during pregnancy for the first time, or present from before pregnancy as either undiagnosed or diagnosed and treated. They may present as hormonal hypofunction or hyperfunction, or with mass effects or other non-endocrine effects. Adrenal disorders such as Cushing's syndrome, Addison's disease, pheochromocytoma, primary hyper-aldosteronism and adreno-cortical carcinoma are rare in pregnancy.

Evaluation of antibiotic prescribing for adult inpatients at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Sultanate of Oman.

Objective: Little is known into the prudent use of antibiotics in hospitals in Oman. This study is to evaluate antibiotic prescribing by measuring the overall compliance with the local antibiotic prescribing guidelines.

Methods: An observational study involving 366 patients' admission episodes as determined by power analysis on patients (≥18 years) on oral and/or parenteral antibiotic during admission, in the period of 10 weeks (1 February-15 April, 2014).

Impact of Metabolic Syndrome Diagnosis and Its Treatment on Survival of Colorectal Cancer Patients.

Background: Epidemiologic findings on the effect of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its treatment on colorectal cancer (CRC) survival have been inconsistent and have not been previously studied in an Arab population such as the Omani population.

Patients And Methods: Data from the hospital records of 301 CRC patients treated in Sultan Qaboos University (SQUH), Oman, from 2006 to 2014 were analyzed retrospectively to determine the effects of MetS and its treatment on CRC survival. Overall survival (OS) by MetS status and by medications for MetS components management was compared with Cox proportional models.

Synthesis, Computational Studies and Anticonvulsant Activity of Novel Benzothiazole Coupled Sulfonamide Derivatives.

We report herein the synthesis of ¾ substituted benzene sulfonamides linked via phenyl ring to a benzothiazole moiety. The title compounds in the two series namely -(4-(benzothiazole-2-yl) phenyl) 4- substituted benzene sulfonamides and -(4-(benzothiazole-2-yl) phenyl) 3- substituted benzene sulfonamides were synthesized by condensing 2-(3/4-aminophenyl) benzothiazole with various substituted sulfonyl chlorides. The synthesized compounds were subjected to neurotoxicity screening, computational studies, and evaluation of their anticonvulsant potential.

We report a 63-year-old female patient who presented to the Sohar Hospital, Sohar, Oman, in 2018 with unexplained left flank pain and constipation. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for bilateral renal stones: A case report with serious complications that could be avoided.

22-year-old male patient with irrelevant medical history presented with bilateral renal stones; multiple stones in right renal pelvis measured 10, 11, and 11mm and another one on the left side measured 12mm. Extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) was done first on the left side, but after 400 shocks and total energy of 20 Storez Medical Lithotripsy Index only, the stone wasn't visible. Then, the operator switched to the right side and a he completed the session.

The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure: A prospective comparative study of undergraduate medical students' and interns' perceptions in Oman.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess perceptions of the educational environment in Oman among medical undergraduate students and interns using the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) tool.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between October 2016 and April 2017 at the Oman Medical College (OMC), Sohar, Oman. A total of 737 medical undergraduate students and interns from the OMC and College of Medicine & Health Sciences of Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, Oman, were invited to complete the DREEM questionnaire in the form of an online survey.

Impact of Medical Conditions and Medications on Road Traffic Safety.

Objectives: Many medical conditions and medicines with therapeutic importance have been shown to impair driving skills, causing road traffic accidents, which leads to great human and economic suffering in Oman. The primary purpose of this study was to assess retrospectively the extent of medical conditions and medications influencing road traffic safety among drivers involved in road accidents.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study among 951 injured or non-injured drivers who reported to Khoula and Nizwa hospitals.

Comparative assessment and suitability of iron and the nutritional composition of fortified foods for young children.

Aim: To assess the suitability of iron content and the nutritional benefits of selected fortified food products marketed for 4-8 year old children in Oman.

Methods: Forty-five fortified foods, which are available in Omani markets, were classified into four groups based on food type and composition: ready-to-eat (RTE) breakfast cereals (two groups), malted milk drinks and milk powder formulas. The nutrition panel displayed on the products' outer package was used as a source of content values for iron and other nutrients.

Neonatal Stridor in Familial Congenital Laryngeal Paralysis (Plott Syndrome): A Case Study in an Omani Family.

Stridor presenting soon after birth due to bilateral abductor vocal cord paralysis (VCP) is rare. We report a family with bilateral VCP affecting four male members in two generations and hence suggesting X-linked recessive inheritance. Severe stridor in the neonatal period requires meticulous airway evaluation, and tracheostomy in 35-70% cases.
