Use of scalp flaps as a salvage procedure in reconstruction of the large defects of head and neck region.

Aim: Large defects of the scalp, head and neck region are often encountered by plastic surgeons. The repair of such defects is dependent upon their location, size and depth. This study describes the use of large scalp flaps as a salvage procedure in the reconstruction of large scalp, head and neck region defects in elderly patients with poor general condition or advanced malignancy.

Ocular neuropathy in peripheral neuropathies.

Ocular movements and coordination require complex and integrated functions of somatic and autonomic nervous systems. Neurological disorders affecting these nervous systems may cause ocular dysfunction involving extraocular muscles and pupils. In this article, the prevalence, clinical presentations, and management of ocular neuropathy related to certain peripheral neuropathies, including diabetic neuropathy, Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), chronic inflammatory neuropathies, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated neuropathy, and hereditary neuropathies, are examined in detail.

Perianal rhabdomyosarcoma: report of a case in an infant and review of the literature.

Rhabdomyosarcoma of the perianal and perineal region is a rare sarcoma of childhood with a poor prognosis. The clinical findings are similar to those of condyloma accuminata, which makes it difficult to diagnose. There are a few reports of this disease in the dermatologic literature.

We tested the hypothesis that 5 cm H2O of positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) reduces the incidence of pneumocephalus in patients who undergo spinal intradural tumor surgery. Fifty-three ASA I to III patients who underwent thoracolumbar intradural tumor surgery between the years 2003 and 2006 were included in this study.
