Objectives: Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is characterized by upper gastrointestinal tract symptoms in association with esophageal mucosal biopsy specimens containing ≥15 intraepithelial eosinophils per high-power field. The etiology of EoE remains unclear, but an immunologic response to various foods and aeroallergens has been implicated. Seasonal variation has been reported in the diagnosis of EoE.

In this study, we report a four-year-old male with D-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria (D2HA) and enchondromatosis with a prior history of hyperpigmented, segmental whorls and streaks on his abdomen who later presented with an eruption of angiokeratoma circumscriptum within a similar distribution. His condition can likely be explained by underlying somatic mosaicism; however, a unifying culprit gene mutation has not yet been identified. To date, only 10 reported cases of D2HA with enchondromatosis are available in the literature with three reported skin findings.

Objective: To investigate predictive factors and develop an outcome assessment tool to determine clinical outcome after endovascular mechanical thrombectomy (EMT) in patients presenting with large vessel occlusion (LVO).
Methods: A retrospective analysis was carried out of a prospective cohort of patients presenting with LVO who underwent EMT after adoption of an expanded time window of ≤24 hours. Final cerebral infarction volume (CIV) after EMT was estimated using magnetic resonance imaging segmentation software.

We report an early-onset autosomal-recessive neurological disease with cerebellar atrophy and lysosomal dysfunction. We identified bi-allelic loss-of-function (LoF) variants in Oxidative Resistance 1 (OXR1) in five individuals from three families; these individuals presented with a history of severe global developmental delay, current intellectual disability, language delay, cerebellar atrophy, and seizures. While OXR1 is known to play a role in oxidative stress resistance, its molecular functions are not well established.

Nocardia is an uncommon gram-positive, weakly acid-fast bacterium that causes systemic or localized suppurative disease in humans and animals. Nocardiosis is typically regarded as an opportunistic infection, but approximately one-third of the patients are immunocompetent. The most common presentation is pulmonary disease (39%) followed by systemic involvement, defined as involvement of more than two sites; cutaneous presentation constitutes only 8% of the cases.

Background: Injury Severity Score (ISS) is the primary metric by which triage has been evaluated in trauma activations. We compared ISS to a previously described set of criteria defined as Need for Surgical Presence (NSP). We hypothesize that NSP may serve as a way to augment ISS in predicting mortality and assessing triage in pediatric trauma patients.

Rheumatoid vasculitis (RV) is an infrequent complication of longstanding severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The active vasculitis associated with rheumatoid disease occurs in about 1%-5% of the patient population. RV is a manifestation of "extra-articular" rheumatoid arthritis and involves the small- and medium-sized arteries in the body.

Interleukin (IL)-8, a cytokine produced by immune and non-immune cells, induces angiogenesis via increased vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) secretion; both cytokines promote tumor growth. IL-8 and VEGF plasma levels correlate with prostate cancer severity, suggesting that therapeutic options aimed at their downregulation may modulate tumor growth. Available data suggest that Agaricus bisporus (white button mushroom [WBM]) extracts inhibit cancer cell proliferation through aromatase inhibition.

Aims: Central adiposity is associated with increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, even among people with normal body mass index (BMI). We tested the hypothesis that regional body fat deposits (trunk or leg fat) are associated with altered risk of CVD among postmenopausal women with normal BMI.
Methods And Results: We included 2683 postmenopausal women with normal BMI (18.

Background: The clinical behavior of prostate cancer (PCa) is variable, and while the majority of cases remain indolent, 10% of patients progress to deadly forms of the disease. Current clinical predictors used at the time of diagnosis have limitations to accurately establish progression risk. Here we describe the development of a tumor suppressor regulated, cell-cycle gene expression based prognostic signature for PCa, and validate its independent contribution to risk stratification in several radical prostatectomy (RP) patient cohorts.

Purpose Of Review: Refractory angina (RA), which is characterized by tissue ischemia along with neurological, mitochondrial, and psychogenic dysfunction, is becoming a major cause of morbidity in patients with advanced coronary artery disease. In this review, we discuss in detail the invasive mechanical non-cell therapy-based options, the evidence behind these therapies, and future trends.
Recent Findings: There is extensive ongoing research in the areas of spinal-cord stimulation, transmyocardial laser revascularization, sympathectomy, angiogenesis, and other non-cell-based therapies to explore the best therapy for refractory angina.

Objective: Further prospective study is needed to elucidate the etiology and natural history of systemic lupus erythematosus development. The clinical complexity of this heterogeneous disease makes study design challenging. Our objective was to ascertain useful screening factors for identifying at-risk individuals for follow-up rheumatologic assessment or inclusion in prospective studies.

Background: Obesity is a strong risk factor for endometrial cancer, but it is unclear whether metabolic syndrome (MetS) contributes to endometrial cancer risk over and above the contribution of obesity.
Methods: We examined the association of MetS and its components with risk of endometrial cancer in a sub-cohort of 24,210 women enrolled in the Women's Health Initiative cohort study. Two variants of the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III definition of the MetS were used: one including and one excluding waist circumference (WC).

Mitochondrial aconitase is the second enzyme in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle catalyzing the interconversion of citrate into isocitrate and encoded by the nuclear gene ACO2. A homozygous pathogenic variant in the ACO2 gene was initially described in 2012 resulting in a novel disorder termed "infantile cerebellar retinal degeneration" (ICRD, OMIM#614559). Subsequently, additional studies reported patients with pathogenic ACO2 variants, further expanding the genetic and clinical spectrum of this disorder to include milder and later onset manifestations.

Viral infections predispose to the development of childhood asthma, a disease associated with increased lung mast cells (MCs). This study investigated whether viral lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) can already evoke a MC response during childhood. Lung tissue from young children who died following LRTIs were processed for immunohistochemical identification of MCs.

Introduction: Polytobacco use and experimentation is common among young adults. Additional research is needed to determine how these patterns of use impact perceptions of tobacco-related harm and risk. The current study examined whether a relationship exists between an increased number of tobacco products used and decreases in perceptions of harmfulness and health risk.

Objective: As part of routine care at Veterans Affairs facilities, veterans with a service-related traumatic brain injury (TBI) are administered a self-report post-concussive symptom measure, the Neurobehavioral Symptom Inventory (NSI). Interpreting the NSI can be problematic given that over-reporting on self-report measures is often found in both civilian and military patient populations. This study investigates embedded scales on the NSI that identify possible and probable symptom exaggeration.
