DOATS score and DOAT score, COVID-19 progression prediction tools we have developed, utilize clinical information such as presence of diabetes/obesity (DO), age (A), body temperature (T), and oxygen saturation (S). They showed good predictive power, but their scoring calculation was slightly complex, leading us to develop simplified versions. This report discusses the ability of the simplified versions to assess deterioration risk in unvaccinated, mild/moderate COVID-19 patients aged <65 years.

On October 1, 2021, the Clinical Engineer Law was revised and expanded the task of clinical engineers (CEs). After that, they can hold and operate a endoscope in endoscopic surgery. On June 9, 2022, our hospital asked CEs to directly participate in thoracoscopic pleural biopsy as scopist( scope operator) for the first time, and since then, a total of 54 thoracoscopic surgery cases were performed by CEs as scopist over the course of one year.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on identifying risk factors for COVID-19 deterioration in unvaccinated individuals under 65 years old during Japan's fifth wave, as many cases occurred in this demographic.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 1,675 patients in Fukushima and created predictive scores to estimate deterioration risk using logistic regression, highlighting significant factors like age, body temperature, oxygen saturation, and comorbidities (diabetes, obesity).
  • - The findings indicated that 8.6% of patients experienced deterioration, with predictors including older age, male gender, and various health issues; two risk scores were developed, DOATS and DOAT, to assess patient risk.

Objective: The CHOKAI and STONE scores are clinical prediction rules to predict ureteral stones in patients presenting with renal colic. Both systems contribute to reducing diagnostic radiation exposure; however, few studies have compared the two scoring systems. Therefore, we aimed to compare these systems and assess their diagnostic accuracy for ureteral stones.

We report a case of 72-year-old male of adenocarcinoma with micropapillary component of the lung. Though the hilar lymph node metastasis was eminent, primary site was difficult to identify by using computed tomography (CT). SUV max with positron emission (PET)-CT in the case suggested the lung cancer in the emphysematous lung and it became an operation.
