Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the survival rate, postoperative complications, and walking ability in cemented hemiarthroplasty (HA) for displaced femoral neck fractures according to the anaesthesia method.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of a multicentre group (the TRON group). Three hundred fifty-eight patients who underwent cemented HA between 2015 and 2019 were selected; 289 patients of ≥75 years of age with no missing data were included.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of cardiac surgeries. The incidence of AKI after cardiac surgeries using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB-AKI) is high, emphasizing the need to determine strategies to prevent CPB-AKI. This study investigates the correlation between CPB-AKI and trace metal levels in clinical and animal studies.

Background: The number of patients who die from causes other than gastric cancer after R0 resection is increasing in Japan, due in part to the aging population. However, few studies have comprehensively investigated the clinicopathological risks associated with deaths from other causes after gastrectomy. This study aimed to build a risk score for predicting such deaths.

Previous studies have suggested that change-related cortical responses are phenomena similar to the onset response and could be applied to the loudness dependence of auditory evoked potential (LDAEP) paradigm. In the present study, we examined the relationship between LDAEP and the change-related response using electroencephalography findings in 50 healthy subjects. There were five conditions (55, 65, 75, 85, and 95 dB) for LDAEP and five similar conditions (abrupt sound pressure increase from 70 to 75, 80, 85, 90, and 95 dB) for the change-related response.

We report the case of a rare lipoma arising in the epidural space of a 14-year-old boy without spinal dysraphism. Lipomas are rare in pediatric soft tissue tumors, accounting for only about 4% of cases. The incidence of an intraspinal epidural lipoma without spinal dysraphism is extremely rare in pediatric patients.

IgG4-related inflammatory pseudotumor is a feature of IgG4-related disease and develops in various organs. Intracranial IgG4-related inflammatory pseudotumor is rare, and data on the clinical course and response to treatment are insufficient in the literature. We herein report a patient with IgG4-related inflammatory pseudotumor who had magnetic resonance imaging findings similar to meningioma.

Objective Muscle atrophy is observed in a subset of patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). Its manifestation is associated with a poor functional prognosis and poor response to immunomodulatory therapies. We evaluated muscle atrophy in patients with CIDP using a bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA).

Purpose: Peritoneal dissemination is the key to the prognosis of gastric cancer (GC) and can be detected early with peritoneal lavage cytology. No studies have examined preoperative prognostic factors in GC patients who have positive cytology but no other non-curative factors.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis using a multicenter database of 3575 patients who underwent gastrectomy between 2010 and 2014.

Distal transradial approach (dTRA) for neuroendovascular procedures has received much attention in recent years as a newer and less invasive alternative to the conventional transfemoral or transradial approaches. We present the case of an 89-year-old woman with a basilar artery aneurysm requiring simultaneous catheterization of the bilateral vertebral arteries who was successfully embolized using bilateral dTRA. The aneurysm was accessed from the right vertebral artery using the right dTRA.

Introduction: The T1 slope is important for cervical surgical planning, and it may be invisible on radiographic images. The prevalence of T1 invisible cases and the differences in demographic and radiographic characteristics between patients whose T1 slopes are visible or invisible remains unexplored.
Methods: This pilot study aimed to evaluate the differences in these characteristics between outpatients whose T1 slopes were visible or invisible on radiographic images.

Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis is a systemic disorder that frequently affects the peripheral nervous system and consists of three distinct conditions: microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA, previously Wegener's granulomatosis), and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA, previously Churg-Strauss syndrome). The neuropathic features associated with this condition usually include mononeuritis multiplex, which reflects the locality of lesions. Findings suggestive of vasculitis are usually found in the epineurium and occur diffusely throughout the nerve trunk.

Background: Acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion (AESD) is a common type of acute encephalopathy in Japan; the condition is clinically characterized by prolonged seizures as the initial neurological symptom, followed by late seizures 4-6 days later. It is difficult to differentiate AESD from prolonged febrile seizures (PFSs). Here, we explored the use of electroencephalography to differentiate AESD from PFSs.
