Purpose: This empirical study aims to investigate the efficacy of pre-emptive cryotherapy in reducing pain that is caused by the deltoid intramuscular (IM) injection of long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics in clinical settings.
Patients And Methods: This study included 29 outpatients receiving LAI antipsychotic treatment. The evaluations of pain during (1) the usual procedure (control), (2) pre-emptive use of ice pack cryotherapy (pre-cooling), and (3) pre-emptive use of a room-temperature ice pack (pre-touching) were conducted using a numerical rating scale (NRS) for comparison.

Background: Proximal gastrectomy (PG) has become an increasingly preferred procedure for treating early cancer in the upper third of the stomach. However, advantages of PG in postoperative quality of life (QOL) over total gastrectomy (TG) has not fully proven.
Methods: We conducted a multi-institutional prospective observational study (CCOG1602) of patients who undergo TG or PG for cStage I gastric cancer.
This patient is the youngest among the previously reported sclerosing thymoma cases, and the resected mass contained numerous coarse calcifications due to dystrophic calcification. This is an unprecedented and extremely rare case.

Here we report the largest Asian genome-wide association study (GWAS) for systemic sclerosis performed to date, based on data from Japanese subjects and comprising of 1428 cases and 112,599 controls. The lead SNP is in the FCGR/FCRL region, which shows a penetrating association in the Asian population, while a complete linkage disequilibrium SNP, rs10917688, is found in a cis-regulatory element for IRF8. IRF8 is also a significant locus in European GWAS for systemic sclerosis, but rs10917688 only shows an association in the presence of the risk allele of IRF8 in the Japanese population.

Objectives: The management for pneumothorax patients involves surgical intervention, nevertheless postoperative recurrences are often encountered. To reduce the rates of recurrence, thoracic surgeons have experimented with various novel techniques, such as pleural abrasion, chemical pleurodesis, and staple line coverage with absorbable sheets, in addition to bullectomy. And in recent years, there have been reports of the effectiveness of the use of intraoperative glucose intrapleural spray (GIS) containing 50 ml of 50% glucose solution in addition to bullectomy.

The relationship between radiation doses and clinical relapse in patients receiving salvage radiotherapy (SRT) for biochemical recurrence (BCR) after radical prostatectomy (RP) remains unclear. We identified 292 eligible patients treated with SRT between 2005 and 2018 at 15 institutions. Clinical relapse-free survival (cRFS) between the ≥ 66 Gy (n = 226) and < 66 Gy groups (n = 66) were compared using the Log-rank test, followed by univariate and multivariate analyses and a subgroup analysis.

Background: The surgical techniques for treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH), a common neurosurgical condition, have been discussed in a lot of clinical literature. However, the recurrence proportion after CSDH surgery remains high, ranging from 10 to 20%. The standard surgical procedure for CSDH involves a craniostomy to evacuate the hematoma, but irrigating the hematoma cavity during the procedure is debatable.

Introduction: The effects of hydrocortisone (HDC) administration to extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants on later development remain unclear. This study examined the association between HDC dosage during neonatal period and neurodevelopmental outcomes in ELBW infants.
Methods: This study was a retrospective cohort study conducted in eight centers in Japan.

Mobilization of CTCs after various types of therapy, such as radiation therapy, has been reported, but systematic study of CTCs after chemotherapy remained quite limited. In this study, we sequentially examined CTC numbers after single-dose and repetitive-dose chemotherapy, including FORFIRINOX (FFX) and Gemcitabine and nab-Paclitaxel (GnP) using two pancreatic cancer xenograft models. CTC was detected by the immunocytology-based microfluidic platform.

We investigated the role of rapid response systems (RRSs) in limitations of medical treatment (LOMT) planning among children, their families, and health care providers. This multicenter retrospective cohort study examined children with clinical deterioration using the Japanese RRS registry between 2012 and 2021. Children ( = 348) at 28 hospitals in Japan who required RRS calls were analyzed.

The thoracic apex is a narrow and complicated area with nerves and vessels, making it difficult to secure a visual field and perform surgical operations. Robot-assisted surgery enabled good visibility and highly flexible forceps manipulation, we were able to perform minimally invasive and safe thoracic apical tumour resection.

Web-based post-bereavement survey systems for specialized palliative care will enable obtaining timely results on the care quality from more participants at a lower cost. The primary aim of the study was to develop a web-based post-bereavement survey system and to compare response rates for different number of items. The secondary aim was to examine response bias between web-based and mail survey in post-bereavement surveys.

Aim: The rapid response system (RRS) was initially aimed to improve patient outcomes. Recently, some studies have implicated that RRS might facilitate do-not-attempt-resuscitation (DNAR) orders among patients, their families, and healthcare providers. This study aimed to examine the incidence and factors independently associated with DNAR orders newly implemented after RRS activation among deteriorating patients.

Double or multiple pituitary adenomas expressing different types of transcription factors and collision tumors of pituitary adenomas and craniopharyngiomas are rare. In this report, we present a case of pituitary adenoma of two different cell populations, Pit-1 and SF-1, and an adenoma and craniopharyngioma collision tumor with coexisting Graves' disease. The patient had a 16-mm pituitary tumor with pituitary stalk calcification and optic chiasm compression but no visual dysfunction.

Objectives: Standardised uptake value ratio (SUVR) is usually obtained by dividing the SUV of the region of interest (ROI) by that of the cerebellar cortex. Cerebellar cortex is not a valid reference in cases where amyloid β deposition or lesions are present. Only few studies have evaluated the use of other regions as references.

Objective: Various guidelines recommend that patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) try to achieve clinical remission within 6 months, and early therapeutic intervention is important to this end. This study aimed to investigate short-term treatment outcomes of patients with early-diagnosed RA in clinical practice and to examine predictive factors for achieving remission.
Methods: Of the 210 patients enrolled in the multicenter RA inception cohort, 172 patients who were followed up to 6 months after treatment initiation (baseline) were included.
