Objectives: is a significant pathogen causing invasive meningococcal disease, posing clinical and public health concerns worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the genetic characteristics of clinical isolates at Okayama University Hospital in Japan.

Methods: Between 2018 and 2023, five clinical strains were isolated, of which three were subjected to the antimicrobial susceptibility testing and whole genetic analysis using MiSeq platform (Illumina, San Diego, CA, USA).

The relationship between D-AA metabolic enzymes and cancer development remains unclear. We aimed to investigate this relationship using mice deficient in D-AA-related metabolic enzymes. We examined mice lacking these enzymes for approximately 900 days and the effects of altered D-AA metabolism on cancer development based on lifespan, pathological findings, and gene expression.

Oral Inflammation and Microbiome Dysbiosis Exacerbate Chronic Graft-versus-host Disease.

The oral microbiota, second in abundance to the gut, is implicated in chronic systemic diseases, but its specific role in GVHD pathogenesis has been unclear. Our study finds that mucositis-induced oral dysbiosis in patients post-hematopoietic cell transplantation associated with increased chronic GVHD (cGVHD) even in patients receiving post-transplant cyclophosphamide. In murine HCT models, oral dysbiosis caused by bilateral molar ligatures exacerbated cGVHD and increased bacterial load in the oral cavity and gut with Enterococcaceae significantly increasing in both organs.

Clinical and microbiological characteristics of high-level daptomycin-resistant Corynebacterium species: A systematic scoping review.

Introduction: Corynebacterium species potentially develop high-level daptomycin resistance (HLDR) shortly after daptomycin (DAP) administration. We aimed to investigate the clinical and microbiological characteristics of HLDR Corynebacterium infections.

Methods: We first presented a clinical case accompanied by the results of a comprehensive genetic analysis of the isolate, and then performed a systematic scoping review.

The Clinical Significance of Interstitial Pneumonia with Autoimmune Features in Cryptogenic Organizing Pneumonia: A Prospective Multicenter Observational Study.

There are cases of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) that do not meet the diagnostic criteria for connective tissue disease but have clinical features suggestive of autoimmune process. Interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features (IPAF) was recently proposed as a research concept for these patients. Although several prospective studies on IPAF have been conducted, its clinical significance in cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) remains unclear.

Pericardial artery lymphoma in a patient with dermatomyositis: A case report.

A woman in her 60s presented with erythema on both elbows, dyspnea on exertion, discomfort, and swelling of the left upper extremity, followed by swelling and myalgia of the right upper and lower extremities. She was diagnosed with anti-transcriptional intermediary factor 1-γ antibody-positive dermatomyositis with interstitial pneumonia. The initial screening tests for malignant diseases including contrast-enhanced computed tomography, upper and lower endoscopy, and gynecological examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Erythema Nodosum Secondary to CD5-Positive Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma as a Paraneoplastic Symptom: A Case Report.

Introduction: Erythema nodosum (EN) is the most common form of panniculitis. EN can be idiopathic or secondary to an underlying systemic disease, infection, drug use, or tumor. CD5-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (CD5+ DLBCL) is a relapsed and refractory lymphoma, and further understanding of its pathology is required.

A Case of Single-lung Transplant in a Patient with Mycobacterium avium Pulmonary Disease Successfully Treated with Amikacin Liposome Inhalation Suspension.

A 55-year-old man presented to our hospital with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). He was registered with the Japan Organ Transplant Network the following year due to disease progression. Treatment with clarithromycin, ethambutol, and rifampicin for complications of Mycobacterium avium pulmonary disease was initiated, but sputum conversion could not be achieved.

T-cell receptor gamma gene rearrangement analysis of classic Hodgkin lymphoma using a BIOMED-2 assay: a paraffin-embedded tissue analysis of one hundred cases.

In the new WHO classifications of haematolymphoid tumours (WHO-HAEM5), classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) is categorized into B-cell lymphoid proliferations and lymphomas. Although the majority of Hodgkin Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells are of germinal center B-cell origin with some defects of B-cell transcription factors, they rarely express T-cell antigens or cytotoxic molecules. Clonality analyses on cHL samples using BIOMED-2 have been reported by several groups; however, those studies were only focused on Ig regions, including IgH, Ig-kappa, and Ig-lambda, and TCR-γ clonality analysis of cHL has not yet been explored.

Duodenal type follicular lymphoma (DFL), a rare entity of follicular lymphoma (FL), is clinically indolent and is characterized by a low histological grade compared with nodal follicular lymphoma (NFL). Our previous reports revealed that DFL shares characteristics of both NFL and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma in terms of clinical and biological aspects, suggesting its pathogenesis may involve antigenic stimulation. In contrast to NFL, the genomic methylation status of DFL is still challenging.

Cefazolin inoculum effect in methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates.

Incidence of nausea/vomiting following propofol sedation with adaptive servo-ventilation for atrial fibrillation ablation.

Background: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) following atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation can cause considerable distress.

Aim: Continuous intravenous propofol sedation with adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) with or without an analgesic, pentazocine, during AF ablation was studied in 272 consecutive patients with paroxysmal, persistent, and long-standing persistent AF. The study objectives were to determine the incidence of PONV after AF ablation and to assess the predictive value of factors for PONV using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).

Co-occurrence of Epstein-Barr virus-positive nodal T/NK-cell lymphoma and nodal T-follicular helper cell lymphoma of different clonal origins: An autopsy case report.

Nodal T-follicular helper cell lymphoma (TFHL) is a subset of T-cell lymphoma and frequently co-occurs with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive B-cell lymphoma but not with T/NK-cell lymphoma. Recently, a new entity with a worse prognosis, called EBV-positive nodal T/NK-cell lymphoma (NTNKL) has been established. Here, we report an autopsy case of synchronous multiple lymphomas, including TFHL and NTNKL.
