Introduction: Adverse events (AEs) of urinary protein from monoclonal antibodies against vascular endothelial growth factor are factors that often inhibit systemic therapy for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). This study aimed to elucidate risk factors of urinary protein in the early period (<12 weeks) of atezolizumab plus bevacizumab treatment (Atez/Bev).

Methods: From 2020 to June 2022, 193 uHCC patients treated with Atez/Bev at our affiliated hospitals were enrolled (median 73 years, 158 males, 183 Child-Pugh A, BCLC-0:A:B:C = 1:7:73:112).

Primary effusion lymphoma-like lymphoma (PEL-LL) shows a unique clinical presentation, characterized by lymphomatous effusions in the body cavities. PEL-LL may be associated with hepatitis C virus infections and fluid overload states; and owing to its rarity, no standard therapies have been established. We report a case of a 55-year-old woman who developed PEL-LL during treatment with dasatinib, for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).

Department of General Medicine, Okayama University, Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Japan; Microbiology Division, Clinical Laboratory, Okayama University Hospital, Japan.

Amidst the global spread of antimicrobial resistance, New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM)-type carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) remain uncommon in Japan, and the detection of such highly drug-resistant organisms is limited to inbound cases. There is little evidence regarding the prevalence of NDM β-lactamase gene (bla)-harboring CPE in the domestic community, especially in the provincial cities of Japan. Herein, we report the isolation of a bla-harboring plasmid in Enterobacter cloacae complex strain isolated from an elderly woman without a history of traveling abroad who had resided in a long-term care facility in Okayama, Japan.

Background And Aims: The Fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) index has been used to predict liver fibrosis in various liver diseases, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Because the FIB-4 formula uses age, different cutoff values may be required for different age groups, making the interpretation difficult. To avoid the influence of age, we attempted to create a new score, the Fibrosis-3 (FIB-3) index.

Aims: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is associated with left ventricular remodelling (LVR), which leads to progressive heart failure. Platelets play a pivotal role in promoting systemic and cardiac inflammatory responses during the complex process of myocardial wound healing or repair following AMI. This study aimed to investigate the impact of platelet reactivity immediately after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on LVR in AMI patients with ST-segment (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation (NSTEMI).
