The purpose of this study was to investigate the risk of overexposure associated with automatic tube current modulation (ATCM) and automatic couch height positioning compensation mechanism (AHC) in computed tomography (CT) systems, particularly in scenarios involving a gap between the subject and the couch. Results revealed that when AHC was enabled, CT dose index volume (CTDI) increased by approximately 10% at 2.5 cm, 20% at 5.

Purpose: Radiological tumor burden has been reported to be prognostic in many malignancies in the immunotherapy era, yet whether it is prognostic in patients with metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC) treated with pembrolizumab remains uninvestigated. We sought to assess the predictive and prognostic value of radiological tumor burden in patients with mUC.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 308 patients with mUC treated with pembrolizumab.

[Purpose] This study aimed to examine how supporting the knee from the front with a knee pad affected upper-limb dexterity while sitting. [Participants and Methods] A total of 14 healthy adult males were included in the study. As a measure of upper-limb dexterity, the number of pins was counted when the Purdue pegboard test was performed for 60 seconds.

Skin marks are widely used in external radiation therapy to ensure the accuracy of the irradiation position. However, conventional skin markers contain harmful substance, so we developed an alternative skin marker. The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using a novel water-based pigment marker comprising safe materials commonly used in cosmetics for clinical radiation therapy.

Background: Computed tomography (CT) angiography (CTA) is a non-invasive imaging method used to detect arteries and examine various brain diseases. When CTA is performed for follow-up or postoperative evaluation, reproducibility of vessel delineation is required. A reproducible and stable contrast enhancement can be achieved by manipulating the factors affecting it.

Introduction: While chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the most important contributors to mortality from non-communicable diseases, the number of nephrologists is limited worldwide. Medical cooperation is a system of cooperation between primary care physicians and nephrological institutions, consisting of nephrologists and multidisciplinary care teams. Although it has been reported that multidisciplinary care teams contribute to the prevention of worsening renal functions and cardiovascular events, there are few studies on the effect of a medical cooperation system.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is superior to computed tomography (CT) in determining changes in tissue structure, such as those observed following inflammation and infection. However, when metal implants or other metal objects are present, MRI exhibits more distortion and artifacts compared with CT, which hinders the accurate measurement of the implants. A limited number of reports have examined whether the novel MRI sequence, multiacquisition variable-resonance image combination selective (MAVRIC SL), can accurately measure metal implants without distortion.

We reported the development of an effective cancer treatment using a multidisciplinary treatment, including photodynamic therapy (PDT) with indocyanine green (ICG) liposomes and a combination of Lentinula edodes mycelia (LEM) and hydrogen gas inhalation therapy. ICG liposomes were prepared by adding 5 mg of ICG to 50 mL liposomes. Later, 25 mL of ICG liposomes were diluted with 250 mL of 5% glucose solution and administered intravenously to the patient.

We performed a phantom experiment by scanning an agar containing an orthopedic metallic implant using 64-channel multidetector row computed tomography (CT) and a 3-tesla MR unit. We compared the reproducibility in each measurement, enlargement or reduction ratio of the CT and MR measurements, and signal deviation in each voxel from the control.

Background: In patients with secondary empty sella syndrome (ESS), optic nerve herniation into the sella turcica is caused by shrinkage of the mass lesion at the sella turcica, resulting in visual disturbance. ESS is often surgically treated using chiasmapexy. Here, we report the first case of spontaneous improvement in a patient with ESS.

Purpose: To develop and validate a new clinical prediction model that accurately predicts the failure of shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) using information obtained from non-contrast-enhanced computed tomography (NCCT).
Methods: This multicentre retrospective cohort study consecutively enrolled patients diagnosed with upper urinary tract calculi by NCCT at five hospitals in Japan from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2016. Among the candidate predictors, we selected the six most significant predictors a priori.

A man in his 60s visited a local clinic because of repeated bouts of intermittent epigastric and back pain since July 2017. He was referred to our department because of suspected acute abdomen. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed an aneurysm in the anterior inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery, and a retroperitoneal hematoma was observed.

Tungsten functional paper (TFP), which contains 80% tungsten by weight, has radiation-shielding properties. We investigated the use of TFP for the protection of operators during interventional or therapeutic angiography. The air kerma rate of scattered radiation from a simulated patient was measured, with and without TFP, using a water-equivalent phantom and fixed C-arm fluoroscopy.

Movement of the target object during cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) leads to motion blurring artifacts. The accuracy of manual image matching in image-guided radiotherapy depends on the image quality. We aimed to assess the accuracy of target position localization using free-breathing CBCT during stereotactic lung radiotherapy.

Purpose: Photographic film is widely used for the dose distribution verification of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). However, analysis for verification of the results is subjective. We present a novel method for marking the isocenter using irradiation from a megavoltage (MV) beam transmitted through slits in a multi-leaf collimator (MLC).

An 85-year-old woman had a history of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) performed 7 years ago, and dyspnea on effort had been worsening recently. Since echocardiography showed severe mitral valve regurgitation( MR), mitral valve repair was suggested. Preoperative enhanced computed tomography (CT) showed the patent functioning left internal thoracic artery (LITA) graft.
