Purpose: The color of Papanicolaou-stained specimens is a crucial feature in cytology diagnosis. However, the quantification of color using digital images is challenging due to the variations in the staining process and characteristics of imaging equipment. The dye amount estimation of stained specimens is helpful for quantitatively interpreting the color based on a physical model.

Background: Spontaneous anterior interosseous nerve (AIN) palsy is characterized by the sudden onset of upper limb pain followed by weakness of muscles mainly innervated by the AIN. Although this palsy is conventionally treated conservatively, interfascicular neurolysis to release hourglass-like fascicular constrictions has been recommended. The present study aimed to establish the clinical characteristics and treatment strategy for this condition.

Elevated Fulminant Index (FI), [plasma glucose (PG)/glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c)], was reportedly a sensitive index to differentiate fulminant type 1 diabetes (FT1D) from non-fulminant T1D (nFT1D). Aim of this study was to describe a better, but simpler index of FT1D. 49 and 52 patients with FT1D and nFT1D, respectively, were registered, and the discriminating ability of the rounded, normalized ratio, [PG (mmol/L) - 5.

Purpose: Endometrial cancer (EC) is one of the most common types of cancer affecting women. While the hematoxylin-and-eosin (H&E) staining remains the standard for histological analysis, the immunohistochemistry (IHC) method provides molecular-level visualizations. Our study proposes a digital staining method to generate the hematoxylin-3,3'-diaminobenzidine (H-DAB) IHC stain of Ki-67 for the whole slide image of the EC tumor from its H&E stain counterpart.

Background: Lower limb artery disease (LEAD) is accompanied by multiple comorbidities; however, the effect of hyperpolypharmacy on patients with LEAD has not been established. This study investigated the associations between hyperpolypharmacy, medication class, and adverse clinical outcomes in patients with LEAD.
Methods: This study used data from a prospective multicenter observational Japanese registry.

We assessed the prognostic ability of several inflammation-based scores and compared their long-term outcomes in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) following endovascular treatment (EVT). We included 278 patients with PAD who underwent EVT and classified them according to their inflammation-based scores (Glasgow prognostic score [GPS], modified GPS [mGPS], platelet to lymphocyte ratio [PLR], prognostic index [PI], and prognostic nutritional index [PNI]). Major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) at 5 years were examined, and C-statistics in each measure were calculated to compare their MACE predictive ability.

Nanomaterials show great promise as bone regeneration materials. They can be used as fillers to strengthen bone regeneration scaffolds, or employed in their natural form as carriers for drug delivery systems. A variety of experiments have been conducted to evaluate the osteogenic potential of bone regeneration materials.

Introduction: Cognitive function is an important factor that affects functional recovery after hip fracture (HipFx) surgery. The literature on the pathophysiology of dementia in HipFx patients is scarce. We performed a differential diagnosis of dementia in HipFx patients using clinical and brain MRI findings.

Purpose: Information on the relationship between frailty and the outcome of endovascular therapy (EVT) in elderly patients with lower extremity peripheral artery disease (PAD) is scarce. This study aimed to reveal the impact of frailty on the prognosis of super-elderly patients who underwent EVT.
Materials And Methods: From August 2015 to August 2016, 335 consecutive patients who underwent EVT were enrolled in the I-PAD registry from 7 institutes in Nagano prefecture.

Purpose: Advanced-stage trapeziometacarpal (TMC) osteoarthritis of the thumb often presents with concomitant hyperextension deformity of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint. Although several studies have reported simultaneous procedures to correct this deformity, the indication for these procedures remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in the range of motion (ROM) of the thumb MCP joint before and after TMC arthrodesis.

PurposeWe aimed to evaluate the extent of collagenase clostridium histolyticum (CCH) diffusion in Dupuytren's contracture (DC) for tissues outside of the contracture cord using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) immediately after CCH injection. 10 male patients aged 57-79 with DC of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints were examined. Extension deficits were 10-60°(mean, 34.

Introduction: Occupational therapy often involves handwriting acquisition practices that include the non-dominant hand when improvements in the dominant hand function are not possible because of trauma or stroke. This study explored whether character tracing and using a pegboard can effectively improve the handwriting of the non-dominant hand.
Methods: A randomised controlled trial involving 60 healthy university students aged ≥18 years was conducted.

An inverse correlation between body mass index and mortality in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) has been reported. However, little information is available regarding the impact of body composition on the clinical outcomes in patients with PAD. This study evaluated the relationships between the lean body mass index (LBMI), body fat % (BF%), and mortality and major amputation rate in patients with PAD.

Objective Despite reports on the effects of ankle-brachial index (ABI) improvement following endovascular therapy (EVT) on the limb prognosis, studies evaluating cardiovascular events are limited. We investigated whether or not ABI improvement 1 year following EVT was associated with cardiovascular events. Methods The I-PAD NAGANO registry is an observational multicenter cohort study that enrolled 337 patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) who underwent EVT between August 2015 and July 2016.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy worldwide, but there are few reports investigating its prevalence using subjects diagnosed by both clinical symptoms and nerve conduction studies (NCSs) in a population-based cohort. This study aimed to determine the epidemiology of CTS diagnosed by sensory disturbance findings and NCSs using a randomly sampled resident population. Subjects aged between 50 and 89 years were randomly sampled from the basic resident registry of a rural Japanese town.
