Article Synopsis
  • The implementation of guideline-directed medical therapy for heart failure is low globally, prompting the development of a smartphone app to improve adherence.
  • This app is based on behavioral economics and aims to "nudge" both doctors and patients towards better treatment options.
  • Initial testing with 5 heart failure patients showed great usability and adherence, suggesting that further research with a larger group is warranted.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers analyzed 164 AF patients who underwent ablation, finding that those with longer P-LAA (a measure of IACT) were older, had more severe AF cases, and presented a higher likelihood of recurrence of AF or atrial tachycardia post-ablation.
  • * The findings indicate that longer IACT (P-LAA ≥ 84 ms) and the presence of LVA are significant predictors of AF recurrence, highlighting the importance of these metrics

Background Low-voltage areas (LVAs) in the atria of patients with atrial fibrillation are considered local fibrosis. We hypothesized that voltage reduction in the atria is a diffuse process associated with fibrosis and that the presence of LVAs reflects a global voltage reduction. Methods and Results We examined 140 patients with atrial fibrillation and 13 patients with a left accessory pathway (controls).

Simulium (Gomphostilbia) khelangense is described on the basis of females, collected by a sweeping net in Lampang, Phitsanulok and Chiang Mai Provinces, Thailand. This new species is placed in the subgroup of the species-group in the subgenus Gomphostilbia Enderlein by having the antenna with eight flagellomeres, pleural membrane bare, and female subcosta lacking hairs. It is similar to Pramual & Tangkawanit from Thailand in the same subgroup but is barely distinguished from the latter species by the head width relative to the greatest width of the frons and length of the labrum relative to the clypeus.

The onset of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is related to weather conditions, but the impact of age on gender differences in the AMI onset-weather association has not been elucidated. We analyzed the Oita AMI Registry and obtained data for 403 enrolled patients. To examine the impact of age, we categorized the patients into 4 groups: young (age ≤65 years) women (n=20); young men (n=123); elderly (age >65 years) women (n=84); and elderly men (n=176).

Background: Glucose metabolism of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) of the pancreas is unclear. S6 ribosomal protein (S6) phosphorylation is involved not only in controlling cell growth but also in glucose metabolism in cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of S6 phosphorylation and the significance of glucose metabolic changes in IPMN.

Article Synopsis
  • The mobile cloud electrocardiography (C-ECG) system helps reduce door-to-balloon (DTB) time for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in Oita, Japan.
  • The system was integrated into 10 ambulances in April 2017, and over 6 months, 162 ECGs were transmitted to hospitals, resulting in timely treatments.
  • Patients using the C-ECG system had significantly shorter DTB times compared to those who did not, showing its effectiveness in improving emergency care for ACS.

We here report a case of a 32-year-old man with genetically diagnosed myotonic dystrophy and persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) who underwent a low-voltage zone (LVZ) ablation. His cardiac function was normal except for a prophylactic pacemaker implantation for a high risk of complete atrioventricular block. An LVZ was found in the anteroseptal left atrium during sinus rhythm and was ablated during induced AF after a pulmonary vein antrum isolation, which terminated the AF and rendered it noninducible by rapid pacing and/or isoproterenol.
