Background: Several studies found that early pancreatic atrophy detected by computed tomography (CT) within 6 months was associated with a high incidence of diabetes in patients with type-1 autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) receiving steroid therapy; however, no long-term follow-up studies have been performed.
Aim: To investigate pancreatic volume (PV) changes using three dimensional (3D)-CT volumetry and their relationship with IgG4 and diabetes in patients with AIP.
Methods: This retrospective study included 33 patients with type-1 AIP receiving steroid therapy.

Variations in the anomaly of the right superior pulmonary vein can lead to perioperative complications if misunderstood. Additionally, incomplete fissures increase the complexity of performing pulmonary anatomical resection. Therefore, accurate preoperative anatomical assessment using three-dimensional computed tomography is crucial for ensuring safe surgery.

Background And Aims: The impact of hepatitis C virus (HCV) eradication via direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy on overall mortality, particularly non-liver-related mortality, is understudied.
Methods: We recruited 4180 patients with chronic HCV infection who achieved sustained virological response (SVR) (HCV eradication) through DAA therapy (n = 2501, SVR group) or who did not receive antiviral therapy (n = 1679, non-SVR group); 1236 from each group were chosen using propensity score matching. Causes of death and all-cause mortality, including non-liver-related diseases, were investigated.

Background/aim: Maintaining liver function throughout the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is crucial, yet the impact of durvalumab plus tremelimumab (DT) treatment on liver function is not well understood. This multicenter study aimed to examine the changes in liver function during DT treatment.
Patients And Methods: This nationwide multicenter study included 80 patients who received DT treatment for unresectable HCC.

Subcutaneous emphysema is a common complication of thoracic surgery. Tension subcutaneous emphysema that causes airway obstruction is rare but life-threatening. This report presents a patient who developed tension subcutaneous emphysema after recurrent secondary pneumothorax surgery which was treated with minimally invasive open-window thoracostomy.

Background: The Union for International Cancer Control and American Joint Committee on Cancer tumor staging system is used globally for treatment planning. As it may be insufficient for tumor staging of lower gingival carcinomas, we proposed the mandibular canal tumor staging system. In this study, we aimed to compare the two systems for such tumor staging and to identify prognostic markers.

Tension pneumomediastinum with hemodynamic failure is a rare but life-threatening condition. Rapid decompression of the mediastinum by drainage is essential to save the patient's life. This report presents a case of tension pneumomediastinum that developed during conservative management of a pneumomediastinum associated with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

A 76-year-old man underwent distal pancreatectomy with celiac axis resection (DP-CAR) after preoperative chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer with celiac artery invasion. Although postoperative pancreatic leakage and ischemia-induced bile fistula developed, the patient's condition remained stable with good drainage. On postoperative Day 47, a pseudoaneurysm developed at the junction of the gastroduodenal artery and proper hepatic artery.

Objective: Combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE) is a syndrome characterized by the coexistence of emphysema and fibrotic interstitial lung disease (ILD). The aim of this study was to examine the effect of CPFE on lung cancer risk and lung cancer-related mortality in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Methods: We conducted a multicenter retrospective cohort study of patients newly diagnosed with lung cancer at five community hospitals between June 2006 and December 2021.

Aim: Postoperative dysphagia after emergency abdominal surgery (EAS) in patients of advanced age has become problematic, and appropriate dysphagia management is needed. This study was performed to identify predictive factors of dysphagia after EAS and to explore the usefulness of swallowing screening tools (SSTs).
Methods: This retrospective study included 267 patients of advanced age who underwent EAS from 2012 to 2022.

Reactive lymphoid hyperplasia (RLH) of the liver is extremely rare. Despite advancements in diagnostic imaging technology, it is still difficult to distinguish from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Herein, we present a case of hepatic RLH mimicking HCC that was postoperatively diagnosed using several imaging modalities.

Objectives: The current study compared the outcome after orthopaedic surgeries in patients with rheumatoid arthritis receiving Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis) versus biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs).
Methods: This was a retrospective observational study of Japanese patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Sixty-two patients with rheumatoid arthritis using JAKi preoperatively underwent orthopaedic surgeries.

Background: Liver metastasis of pure squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma has not been previously reported.
Case Presentation: A 66-year-old man underwent a computed tomography scan 3 years after surgery for pancreatic head cancer, and the scan revealed a mass lesion in the right lobe of the liver. A liver tumor biopsy was performed, and SCC was diagnosed.

Background & Aims: The QUASAR Phase 2b Induction Study evaluated the efficacy and safety of guselkumab, an interleukin-23p19 subunit antagonist, in patients with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC) with prior inadequate response and/or intolerance to corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and/or advanced therapy.
Methods: In this double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging, induction study, patients were randomized (1:1:1) to receive intravenous guselkumab 200 or 400 mg or placebo at weeks 0/4/8. The primary endpoint was clinical response (compared with baseline, modified Mayo score decrease ≥30% and ≥2 points, rectal bleeding subscore ≥1-point decrease or subscore of 0/1) at week 12.

Background: The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate the prognosis of patients with oral cavity cancer with positive margin (PM) or close margin (CM) divided into pN- and pN+ groups.
Methods: The evaluated endpoints were local control and disease-specific survival (DSS) rates.
Results: Higher T classification, lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI), and older age were significant risk factors for DSS in the pN- groups.
