Purpose: Several reporting systems have been proposed for providing standardized language and diagnostic categories aiming for expressing the likelihood that lung abnormalities on CT images represent COVID-19. We developed a machine learning (ML)-based CT texture analysis software for simple triage based on the RSNA Expert Consensus Statement system. The purpose of this study was to conduct a multi-center and multi-reader study to determine the capability of ML-based computer-aided simple triage (CAST) software based on RSNA expert consensus statements for diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia.

Background: Antimicrobial therapy is necessary to eradicate Helicobacter pylori infection. The emergence of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria poses a threat to continued treatment with antimicrobial agents. For those who prescribe antimicrobial therapy, it is necessary to constantly monitor the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria.

Background/aim: The association of clinical outcomes with posttreatment persistent changes in eosinophils and other white blood cell (WBC) subtypes in patients with advanced urothelial cancer (UC) treated with pembrolizumab after the failure of platinum-based chemotherapy is unclear.
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 87 patients with advanced UC who received pembrolizumab after the failure of platinum-based chemotherapy. The changes in WBC subtypes from pretreatment were evaluated three and six weeks after pembrolizumab administration.

Introduction: With category II fetal heart rate tracings, the preferred timing of interventions to prevent fetal hypoxic brain damage while limiting operative interventions remains unclear. We aimed to estimate fetal extracellular base deficit (BD ) during labor with category II tracings to quantify the timing of potential interventions to prevent severe fetal metabolic acidemia.
Material And Methods: A longitudinal study was conducted using the database of the Recurrence Prevention Committee, Japan Obstetric Compensation System for Cerebral Palsy, including infants with severe cerebral palsy born at ≥34 weeks' gestation between 2009 and 2014.

Introduction: Combined treatment using anti-programmed death-ligand 1 antibody (anti-PD-L1) and platinum-etoposide is the current standard first-line treatment for patients with extensive-stage (ES) small cell lung cancer (SCLC). However, the best treatment for relapsed ES-SCLC after the first-line treatment remains unclear. There are some approved chemotherapeutic agents that can be used against ES-SCLC, and treatment with irinotecan is well established as both a monotherapy and a combined therapy, in combination with platinum.

A 69-year-old woman was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with an FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3-internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD) mutation. Complete remission (CR) was achieved after induction therapy, but AML resulted in a hematological relapse two months after the consolidation chemotherapy. Relapse was accompanied by multiple skin lesions that demonstrated leukemic cell infiltration as well as a drooping right eyelid with extroversion of the eye due to right oculomotor palsy.

Background: Six-month adjuvant chemotherapy with S-1 is standard care for resected pancreatic cancer in Japan; however, the optimal duration has not been established. We aimed to evaluate the impact of duration of adjuvant chemotherapy with S-1.
Methods: We performed a multicenter, randomized, open-label, phase II study.

Recent revisions of clinical guidelines by the Japanese Circulation Society, American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology, and European Society of Cardiology updated the management of antithrombotic strategies for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, the extent to which these guidelines have been implemented in real-world daily clinical practice is unclear. We conducted surveys on the status of antithrombotic therapy for patients with AF undergoing PCI every 2 years from 2014 to 2022 in 14 cardiovascular centers in Japan.

Background: Evidence on the association between severe maternal morbidity (SMM) and mother-infant bonding and self-harm ideation is limited. We aimed to examine these associations and the mediating effect of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) admission at one-month postpartum.
Methods: This multicenter, prospective cohort study was conducted in Japan (n = 5398).

Aim: Laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) located in the posterosuperior segments (PS) have generally been considered more difficult than those for HCC in anterolateral segments (AL), but may be safe and feasible for selected patients with accumulated experience. In the present study, we investigated the effectiveness of LLR for single nodular HCCs ≤3 cm located in PS.
Methods: In total, 473 patients who underwent partial liver resection for single nodular HCCs ≤3 cm at the 18 institutions belonging to the Kyusyu Study Group of Liver Surgery from January 2010 to December 2018 were enrolled.

Background: It is crucially important to understand the risk factors for rectal bleeding after volumetric-modulated arc radiotherapy (VMAT) for prostate cancer to prevent subsequent rectal bleeding. We assayed clinical and dosimetric data to investigate the risk factors for rectal bleeding after VMAT of prostate cancer.

Background: Driver alterations may represent novel candidates for driver gene-guided therapy; however, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) with multiple genomic aberrations makes them intractable. Therefore, the pathogenesis and metabolic changes of ICC need to be understood to develop new treatment strategies. We aimed to unravel the evolution of ICC and identify ICC-specific metabolic characteristics to investigate the metabolic pathway associated with ICC development using multiregional sampling to encompass the intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity.

Myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm with ring sideroblasts and thrombocytosis (MDS/MPN-RS-T) is a rare disease, which presents with features of myelodysplastic syndromes with ring sideroblasts and essential thrombocythemia, as well as anemia and marked thrombocytosis. SF3B1 and JAK2 mutations are often found in patients, and are associated with their specific clinical features. This study was a retrospective analysis of 34 Japanese patients with MDS/MPN-RS-T.
