In almost all cancers, the p53 pathway is disabled and cancer cells survive. Hence, it is crucially important to induce cell death independent of p53 in the treatment of cancers. The transcription factor E2F1 is controlled by binding of the tumor suppressor pRB, and induces apoptosis by activating the gene, an upstream activator of p53, when deregulated from pRB by loss of pRB function.

Context: Oxytocin supplementation improves obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and animal studies suggest involvement of oxytocin in respiratory control. However, the relationship between endogenous oxytocin signaling and human sleep status remains undetermined.
Objective: In this study, we approached the contribution of the intrinsic oxytocin-oxytocin receptor (OXTR) system to OSA by genetic association analysis.

Background: Low-grade systemic inflammation may be a key player in the immune activation that has been reported for mental health deterioration. We hypothesised that elevated serum levels of inflammatory cytokines increase neuroinflammation and exacerbate depressive symptoms.
Methods: The participants were part of a cohort study for whom data was available for both 2015 and 2019.

Aims: To evaluate the perceptions of parents on general health, oral health, and dental care for children with Down syndrome (DS), and to investigate factors related to parents' perceptions of oral health.
Methods And Results: An online questionnaire survey was conducted of parents of children with DS. Forty-three percent and 81% of the parents rated their child's oral health and general health as good, respectively.

Human T-cell leukemia virus type-1 (HTLV-1) is the etiological agent of adult T-cell leukemia (ATL). The trans-activator protein Tax of HTLV-1 plays crucial roles in leukemogenesis by promoting proliferation of virus-infected cells through activation of growth-promoting genes. However, critical target genes are yet to be elucidated.

Most reports on duplicate dentures are introduction to fabrication methods or clinical case reports. Only a few studies have verified their clinical effectiveness; hence, evidence to construct useful clinical guidelines for duplicate denture use is lacking. This review aimed to comprehensively investigate reports on duplicate dentures to accumulate evidences that will contribute to the formulation of clinical practice guidelines.

Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is the causative agent of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma. The oncogene product Tax of HTLV-I is thought to play crucial roles in leukemogenesis by promoting proliferation of the virus-infected cells through activation of growth-promoting genes. These genes code for growth factors and their receptors, cytokines, cell adhesion molecules, growth signal transducers, transcription factors and cell cycle regulators.

Objectives: Toll-like receptors (TLRs) recognize whole cells or components of microorganisms. Alendronate (ALN) is an anti-bone-resorptive drug that has inflammatory side effects. The aim in this study was to examine whether ALN augments TLR2 ligand-induced proinflammatory cytokine production using mouse macrophage-like RAW264.

Cranial neural crest cells (NCCs) are critical for craniofacial development. The administration of valproic acid (VPA) to pregnant females causes craniofacial malformations in offspring. However, the in vivo influence of VPA on mammalian cranial NCCs remains unclear.

Computer-aided design-computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) systems have been widely used as a fabrication method for restorations because of their high efficiency and accuracy, which significantly reduces fabrication time. However, molars with insufficient clearance or short clinical crown lengths require retention holes or grooves on the preparation, making it difficult to replicate the shapes with the CAM milling system. In these cases, restorations using the lost-wax method are selected.

Objective: We explored the relationship of dietary intake of fatty acids with chronic kidney disease (CKD) according to glycemic status in Japanese people.
Methods: A total of 1031 participants aged ≥40 y were included in this population-based, cross-sectional study. A validated self-administered diet history questionnaire was used to measure the dietary intakes of fat and fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Although the epiglottis plays a vital role in deglutition, histological studies of the epiglottis and surrounding ligaments associated with swallowing dysfunction are limited. Therefore, we performed histological observations to clarify age-related changes in the morphological characteristics of the epiglottis and surrounding structures. Tissue samples comprising the epiglottis and surrounding structures were collected from corpses that were both orally fed and tube-fed during their lifetimes.

The TFDP1 gene codes for the heterodimeric partner DP1 of the transcription factor E2F. E2F, principal target of the tumor suppressor pRB, plays central roles in cell proliferation by activating a group of growth-related genes. E2F also mediates tumor suppression by activating tumor suppressor genes such as ARF, an upstream activator of the tumor suppressor p53, when deregulated from pRB upon oncogenic changes.

The root canal morphology undergoes aging-related changes, and relevant quantitative analyses have not yet been reported. We compared the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) scans of extracted mandibular incisors to check the accuracy of morphological measurements. Thereafter, the root canal morphology and aging-related changes in the mandibular incisors of Japanese individuals were assessed using CBCT.

G protein-coupled receptor class C group 5 member B (GPRC5B) is involved in extracellular glucose sensing, glucose metabolism, and insulin resistance. Many cancers require glucose at high concentrations to survive and grow. We have investigated the association between tumour GPRC5B expression and the prognosis for patients with cancer, including head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), using data from The Human Protein Atlas.

Secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC), also called basement‑membrane protein 40 or osteonectin, is a matricellular protein that is abundant not only in bone tissue as a non‑collagenous protein but is also ubiquitously expressed in non‑calcified tissue. SPARC is located intracellularly and disruption of the gene has been reported to reduce bone formation and increase fat tissue; however, the mechanism by which SPARC inhibits adipogenesis remains unclear. The present study evaluated the intracellular function of SPARC in adipogenesis using the bone marrow stromal cell line ST2.

Patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) encounter various problems, including disorders related to feeding, esthetics, and pronunciation. We compared two impression methods, conventional impression making and intraoral scanning, to study unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP). Patients with UCLP (n = 7) were selected, and palatal impressions were taken by two steps: (1) impressions were obtained using an addition silicone rubber impression material, and a plaster model was prepared and (2) optical impressions were obtained using a desktop three-dimensional (3D) scanner and stereolithography (STL).

Endodontic-periodontal lesions (EPLs) are chronic inflammatory lesions in the mouth caused by multiple factors. Both periapical and marginal periodontitis are characterized by infection and inflammation around the affected teeth, suggesting that the theory of complex systems might describe the progression of EPL. The diagnosis and treatment of EPLs are complicated by variations of this condition and difficulties distinguishing EPLs from other diseases.
