Communities may often lack the resources to deliver intensive programs to assist teen mothers, and many eligible adolescents may decline participation in lengthy interventions. Therefore, alternative approaches involving less resource and time may be needed. Behavioral economics (BE) can inform the development of such novel interventions.

Background: Tranexamic acid (TXA) is an antifibrinolytic therapy intended to decrease blood loss and improve hemostasis in traumatic hemorrhage. Viscoelastic assays, such as thromboelastography (TEG), allow for the identification of a patient's specific hemostasis. The purpose of this research study was to explore the safety and efficacy of TEG-guided antifibrinolytic therapy in trauma patients.

Outcomes of endovascular venous stenting in patients on direct oral anticoagulants and antiplatelet therapy at a tertiary referral center.

J Vasc Surg Venous Lymphat Disord

May 2021

Division is Heart and Vascular Service, OhioHealth Heart and Vascular, Columbus, Ohio; Division is Heart and Vascular Service, Syntropic Core Lab, OhioHealth Research and Innovation Institute, Columbus, Ohio. Electronic address:

Background: Endovenous revascularization is the standard in the management of acute thrombotic, chronic post-thrombotic iliocaval or iliofemoral obstruction, and nonthrombotic iliac vein lesions. The purpose of this study is to describe our single-center experience of postprocedure anticoagulation and antiplatelet regimens used after endovenous revascularization for a variety of venous occlusive conditions.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 100 consecutive patients who underwent endovenous stenting for iliocaval or iliofemoral obstruction from January 1, 2014, to April 30, 2018.

Background: Chronic venous disease (CVD) is a common vascular disorder with manifestations ranging from asymptomatic spider veins to venous ulcers. Elevated right atrial pressure, otherwise called central venous pressure (CVP), can also result in edema and hyperpigmentation similar to chronic venous insufficiency. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a known risk factor for elevation of CVP.

Objective: This study explored the relationships between nurse-sensitive structures, processes (work engagement [WE], frequency of fall risk discussion during report, and frequency of purposeful rounds), and patient falls.

Background: Strong WE is associated with better nurse-assessed quality of care, but previous research is limited by self-reported outcome measures.

Methods: We used a descriptive, cross-sectional, survey design with 41 nursing units from 7 hospitals.

Background: The appropriate dose of enoxaparin for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis in low body weight patients is unknown.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of enoxaparin dosing on major and minor bleeding events in low body weight patients.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients weighing less than 45 kg receiving subcutaneous (SC) enoxaparin for VTE prevention.

Clinical Impact of Saline Volume Infused Through Irrigated-Tip Ablation Catheter in Low Acuity Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Patients.

J Atr Fibrillation

December 2018

Section of Cardiac Electrophysiology, Department of Cardiology, OhioHealth Heart and Vascular Physicians, Riverside Methodist Hospital, 3535 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43214, USA.

Background: Radio-Frequency ablation (RFA) to achieve pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) remains mainstay therapy for symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). The clinical consequences of large saline infusions during AF ablation have not been systematically studied. We utilized the differential flow-rates of the two commercially available ablation catheters (AC): 'ThermoCool' (TCAC) and 'Surround Flow' (SFAC) from Biosense-Webster to evaluate the clinical impact of the saline infused in the immediate post-ablation period.

Introduction: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a successful operation for osteoarthrosis. Typically, the knee can be balanced using posterior stabilized or cruciate retaining implants. However, in patients with severe deformity or ligamentous laxity, this cannot be obtained, and more constrained devices are needed.

Background: Most interventions designed to reduce teen pregnancy rates have not focused on pregnant and/or parenting adolescents. Therefore, a large randomized controlled trial was conducted regarding a motivational interviewing program entitled Teen Options to Prevent Pregnancy in a low-income sample of adolescent mothers. This program recommended monthly sessions between a participant and a registered nurse over 18 months.

Unlabelled: Total ankle replacement (TAR) is a viable alternative to ankle fusion in certain patients with end-stage ankle arthritis. Despite the importance of understanding alignment and movement of the prosthesis, there is no standardized radiographic method for evaluating the position and movement of the INBONE 2 prosthesis. The aims of this study were to describe a radiographic measurement protocol for INBONE 2 for clinical practice and research while determining the interobserver and intraobserver reliability using standard weightbearing radiographs.

June 2016

Department of Epidemiology, Colorado School of Public Health, University of Colorado Denver, Aurora, Colorado, USA Pediatric Emergency Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Colorado Anschutz, Aurora, Colorado, USA.

Background: Football helmets used by high school athletes in the United States should meet the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment performance standards. Despite differences in interior padding and exterior shells, all football helmets should provide comparable protection against concussions. Yet, debate continues on whether differences in the rates or severity of concussions exist based on helmet age/recondition status, manufacturer, or model.

The use of biologics, namely demineralized bone matrix, bone marrow aspirate (BMA), and other growth factors, has gained popularity in foot and ankle surgery for use in compromised hosts or high-risk situations. Our research has shown the concentration of these pluripotent cells was greatest in the iliac crest. A medical record and radiographic review was performed to compare the effect of BMA harvest site osteogenic progenitor cells on the incidence of fusion.
