A Retrospective Validation of the HEAR Score.

JACC Case Rep

December 2024

OhioHealth Department of Cardiology, Columbus, Ohio, USA.

Studies have proposed the history, electrocardiogram, age, risk factors (HEAR) score to risk-stratify patients with chest pain in the emergency department. This paper assessed the utility of the HEAR score for ambulatory patients with chest pain. The findings demonstrate patients with low and high HEAR scores can be safely managed in the outpatient setting.

Background: Breastfeeding self-efficacy has been identified as an important influence on breastfeeding outcomes. Among new parent couples, partners are uniquely positioned to be sources of support for developing breastfeeding self-efficacy, yet few breastfeeding programs have attempted to involve partners directly. The purpose of this study was to test the impact of a novel program, Happy, Healthy, Loved, on breastfeeding self-efficacy and maternal mood through emphasizing partner support and actively addressing postpartum-specific stress management in a tailored text message delivery program.

Background: As an alternative to traditional open reduction internal fixation of ankle fragility fractures, primary retrograde tibiotalocalcaneal (TTC) nailing has been investigated as a treatment option. These results suggest that this treatment is an acceptable alternative treatment option for these injuries. There are still questions about the need for formal joint preparation at the subtalar or tibiotalar joint when performing primary TTC nailing for fragility fractures.

Objective: Overtriage (ie, delivering less severely injured patients via helicopter) is costly, raises safety concerns, and reduces efficiency of the trauma system. The Air Medical Prehospital Triage (AMPT) scoring system was developed to determine which trauma patients would gain a survival benefit by air transport. The objective of this study was to evaluate the AMPT scoring system as a method of reducing trauma overtriage when helicopter emergency medical services were used.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and is associated with increased risk of bleeding and stroke. While left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) is approved as an alternative to anticoagulants for stroke prevention in patients with AF, placement of these devices in patients with severe aortic stenosis, or when performed at the same time as TAVR, has not been extensively studied.

Methods: WATCH-TAVR (WATCHMAN for Patients with AF Undergoing TAVR) was a multicenter, randomized trial evaluating the safety and effectiveness of concomitant TAVR and LAAO with WATCHMAN in AF patients.

Survey of Buprenorphine Low-dose Regimens Used by Healthcare Institutions.

J Addict Med

November 2023

From the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Monterey, CA (MH); OhioHealth Grant Medical Center Columbus, OH (SG); OhioHealth Marion General Hospital Marion, OH (RO); and OhioHealth Research Institute Columbus, OH (MP).

Background: Buprenorphine microdosing ("low-dosing") allows for initiation of buprenorphine without requiring patients to endure withdrawal. Case studies suggest its favorable utility as an alternative to conventional buprenorphine induction. However, published regimens vary in duration, dosage forms used, and timing of full opioid agonist discontinuation.

Recent clinical research describes a subset of glioblastoma patients that exhibit REP prior to the start of radiation therapy. Current literature has thus far described this population using clinicopathologic features. To our knowledge, this study is the first to investigate the potential of conventional radiomics, sophisticated multi-resolution fractal texture features, and different molecular features (MGMT, IDH mutations) as a diagnostic and prognostic tool for prediction of REP from non-REP cases using computational and statistical modeling methods.

Background: While the majority of research on postpartum depressive and anxious symptoms has focused on mothers, a growing body of research suggests a need to understand the role of the partner's health and relationship quality as predictors of postpartum maternal depression, while also better understanding correlates of partner or paternal depression in the postpartum period. The purpose of the current study is to evaluate mother and partner stress, anxiety, mood, infant care support, and relationship quality as predictors of perinatal depressive and anxious symptoms in first time mothers and partners during the postpartum hospital stay.

Methods: First time parent couples (n = 116) completed a survey during the two-day postpartum stay in a Midwest hospital.

Outcomes from a tertiary care center using a catheter thrombectomy system for managing acute iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis.

J Vasc Surg Venous Lymphat Disord

September 2022

Interventional Cardiology and Vascular Medicine, Riverside Methodist Hospital, OhioHealth Heart and Vascular, Columbus, OH. Electronic address:

Objective: The aim of the present study was to report a large, single-center experience using the ClotTriever thrombectomy system (Inari Medical, Irvine, CA) for the management of acute iliofemoral (IF) deep vein thrombosis (DVT). One limitation of all endovascular devices for the treatment of acute IF-DVT has been the inability to completely remove all acute thrombus and the need for adjunctive thrombolysis with its attendant risk of bleeding complications.

Methods: A single-center retrospective review of consecutive patients with acute IF-DVT treated with the ClotTriever thrombectomy system (Inari Medical) is reported.
