Sugammadex is approved for postoperative recovery from rocuronium neuromuscular blockade with train-of-four (TOF) guided dosing. Data for non-perioperative sugammadex efficacy and dosing are limited when TOF is not available and reversal is not immediate. This study evaluated the efficacy, safety, and dose of sugammadex when administered in the emergency department (ED) or intensive care unit (ICU) for delayed rocuronium reversal when TOF guidance was not consistently available.

The Fly-CURE is a genetics-focused multi-institutional Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) that provides undergraduate students with hands-on research experiences within a course. Through the Fly-CURE, undergraduate students at diverse types of higher education institutions across the United States map and characterize novel mutants isolated from a genetic screen in . To evaluate the impact of the Fly-CURE experience on students, we developed and validated assessment tools to identify students' perceived research self-efficacy, sense of belonging in science, and intent to pursue additional research opportunities.

Beyond Contraception: Pharmacist Roles to Support Maternal Health.

Pharmacy (Basel)

November 2022

National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations, Richmond, VA 23235, USA.

While contraception prescribing by pharmacists has seen rapid growth in recent years, pharmacist-provided services that can impact maternal health encompass more than just contraception. Each phase of maternal health-preconception, pregnancy, and post-pregnancy-has unique needs, and pharmacists are well equipped to provide services to meet those needs and are more accessible than other healthcare providers. While pharmacist-provided maternal health services may lead to significant savings to the healthcare system, additional research to more fully capture the value of pharmacist-provided maternal health services is needed.

Methods for Investigating Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin-2 (TRPM2): A Cation Channel Activated by ADP-Ribose and Involved in Cell Death.

Methods Mol Biol

December 2022

Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, Rudolph H. Raabe College of Pharmacy, Ohio Northern University, Ada, OH, USA.

Transient receptor potential melastatin-2 (TRPM2) is an emerging chemotherapeutic target due to its involvement in poly(ADP-ribose) metabolism and the ability to induce anticancer effects after antagonism of its functions. Normally functioning as a nonspecific cation channel that is activated by free ADP-ribose, TRPM2 is involved with many cellular processes, including the induction of cell death after oxidative stress. What is becoming clear is that antagonism of TRPM2 selectively induces anticancer effects in several types of cancer.

We describe the creation and quality assurance of a dataset containing nearly all available precinct-level election results from the 2016, 2018, and 2020 American elections. Precincts are the smallest level of election administration, and election results at this granularity are needed to address many important questions. However, election results are individually reported by each state with little standardization or data quality assurance.

The Genomics Education Partnership (GEP) engages students in a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE). To better understand the student attributes that support success in this CURE, we asked students about their attitudes using previously published scales that measure epistemic beliefs about work and science, interest in science, and grit. We found, in general, that the attitudes students bring with them into the classroom contribute to two outcome measures, namely, learning as assessed by a pre- and postquiz and perceived self-reported benefits.

Harsh realities in pandemic fatigue, burnout, inequities, and isolation are impacting academic pharmacy. Mentoring programs, especially inter-institutional programs such as those provided within the Sections and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), may combat some of these issues. Unfortunately, year after year, Academy members continue to request information from these groups on mentoring, whether it be the opportunity to pair up, for advice on how to be better mentors, or for guidance on how to develop a program on mentoring for the Sections and SIGs without an existing program.

Background: As doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) curricula must fulfill accreditation standards emphasizing managerial skills, entrepreneurship, continuing professional development (CPD), and leadership, there is interest among faculty to incorporate high-quality, evidence-based educational strategies. To date there has not been a comprehensive review of these four topics in one paper; therefore, we aimed to describe the landscape of the published literature and areas for future research.

Methods: A keyword search of Academic Search Complete/Premier and OvidMedline databases identified articles published between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2020.

The first generation of this Microsoft (MS) Excel (Redmond, WA, USA) tool for method validation, EZSTATSG1, was designed for methods utilizing only linear calibration curves requiring seven calibration levels, and quadratic calibration models were not supported. This significantly improved version, EZSTATSG2, includes all of the features of the original template such as weighted linear calibration models, bias and precision data, dilution integrity and ion suppression. New features in this version include flexible five-, six- or seven-point calibration curves; six weighted quadratic calibration models; standardized residuals by use of frequency plots overlaid with the normal distribution function along with five-number summary data and processed sample stability.
