The development of surgical techniques, chemotherapy, biological agents, and multidisciplinary approaches have made patients with unresectable colorectal liver metastases eligible for surgery. Many strategies have been developed to allow patients for surgical resection (percutaneous portal vein embolization, liver venous deprivation, parenchyma-sparing liver surgery, reverse strategy, associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy, and liver transplantation), the only form of disease control and curative treatment.

In patients with synchronic liver colorectal metastasis, resection of the primary tumor and liver metastases is the only potentially curative strategy. In such cases, there is no consensus on whether resection of the primary tumor and metastases should be performed simultaneously or whether a staged approach should be performed (resection of the primary tumor and after, hepatectomy, or hepatectomy first). Patients with no bowel occlusion and with extensive liver disease are advised neoadjuvant oncological therapy.

Complete removal of metastatic disease and maintenance of an adequate liver remnant remains the only treatment option with curative intent concerning colorectal liver metastases. Surgery impacts on the long-term prognosis and complications adversely affect oncological results. The actual morbidity involving this scenario is debatable and estimated to be ranging from 15% to 50%.

The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) is a widely used self-report measure of subjective well-being, but studies of its measurement invariance across a large number of nations remain limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset-with data collected between 2020 and 2022 -to assess measurement invariance of the SWLS across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups (N = 56,968). All participants completed the SWLS under largely uniform conditions.

Importance: In the US, traumatic injuries are a leading cause of mortality across all age groups. Patients with severe trauma often require time-sensitive, specialized medical care to reduce mortality; air transport is associated with improved survival in many cases. However, it is unknown whether the provision of and access to air transport are influenced by factors extrinsic to medical needs, such as race or ethnicity.

Acute symptomatic seizures, occurring shortly after a central nervous system insult, constitute nearly half of all seizure cases. However, there is a conspicuous absence of clear, comprehensive, and cohesive guidelines for the management of these seizures with antiseizure medications, especially their duration of use. This lack of consensus on the optimal duration of therapy leads to prolonged treatments that may carry adverse consequences.

Introduction: The understanding of the interaction of closed-loop control of ventilation and oxygenation, specifically fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) and positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP), and fluid resuscitation after burn injury and acute lung injury from smoke inhalation is limited. We compared the effectiveness of FiO2, PEEP, and ventilation adjusted automatically using adaptive support ventilation (ASV) and decision support fluid resuscitation based on urine output in a clinically relevant conscious ovine model of lung injury secondary to combined smoke inhalation and major burn injury.
Methods: Sheep were subjected to burn and smoke inhalation injury under deep anesthesia and analgesia.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a high-performance polymer material for developing varying orthopedic, spine, cranial, maxillofacial, and dental implants. Despite their commendable mechanical properties and biocompatibility, the major limitation of PEEK implants is their low affinity to osseointegrate with the neighboring bone. Over the last two decades, several efforts have been made to incorporate bioactive components such as bioceramic particles in PEEK to enhance its osseointegration capacity.

The first ground-state rotational spectrum of 3-methylstyrene (3MS) was measured by Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy under supersonic jet-cooled conditions. Transitions were assigned for two conformers: cis-3MS and trans-3MS. In the cis conformer, the vinyl group is oriented toward the methyl group, while in the trans conformer, it is positioned away from the methyl.

Three new hexagonal perovskites with CsMMRhCl (M = Na, Ag; M = Mn, Fe) stoichiometry have been synthesized from solution precipitation reactions. These air-stable compounds crystallize as triply cation-ordered variants of the 6H perovskite structure. This structure contains octahedra that share a common face to form MRhCl dimers that are arranged on a two-dimensional triangular network.

Primary Hypertrophic Osteoarthropathy (PHOAR1) is characterized by autosomal recessive loss of function variants in 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (HPGD) leading to digital clubbing, periostosis, pachydermia, and severe hyperhidrosis. HPGD catalyzes the first step of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) degradation. Selective COX-2 inhibitors have proved beneficial in adults, though it is unknown if early initiation of COX-2 inhibitors can alter the natural history of PHOAR1.

Introduction: Typical adolescent neurodevelopment is marked by decreases in grey matter (GM) volume, increases in myelination, measured by fractional anisotropy (FA), and improvement in cognitive performance.
Methods: To understand how epigenetic changes, methylation (DNAm) in particular, may be involved during this phase of development, we studied cognitive assessments, DNAm from saliva, and neuroimaging data from a longitudinal cohort of normally developing adolescents, aged nine to fourteen. We extracted networks of methylation with patterns of correlated change using a weighted gene correlation network analysis (WCGNA).
