Background And Aim: Adult acquired flatfoot deformity (AAFD) is a common pathology and an important cause of pain and disability. This deformity causes a progressive flattening of the foot arch which has traditionally been associated with posterior tibialis tendon (PTT) dysfunction. Operative treatment is indicated after the failure of conservative management aiming to achieve proper alignment of the hindfoot and to maintain as much flexibility as possible.

Background And Aim: Rhizarthrosis common in elderly and represents 10% of all artrhitic manifestations. Trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition remains the gold standard for stages II to IV according to Eaton and Littler. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the results of 24 patients affected by advanced rhizarthrosis who underwent to modified Burton-Pellegrini's trapeziectomy with ligamentoplasty using the entire flexor carpi radialis tendon.

High-energy tibial plateau fractures are complex lesions that may be associated with extensive soft tissue damages and severe complications, such as compartment syndrome and neurological injuries. This case report interests a professional motocross freestyler with complex tibial plateau fracture associated to compartment syndrome and partial common peroneal nerve impairment which complicated with a dehiscence of the surgical wound and infection after plate and screws fixation. One year later, despite the complexity of the fracture, the gravity of the soft tissue lesions and subsequent complications, the patient healed.

Background And Aim Of The Work: Adverse reaction to metal debris is the major cause of the high revision rates of metal on metal hip implants with femoral head size ≥ 36mm. Health authorities recommend regular surveillance even for asymptomatic individuals. The main investigations used are Co+ and Cr+ serum levels, x-rays and, eventually, ultrasound and MARS-MRI.

Background And Aim Of The Work: Medial epicondyle fractures of the humerus account for 11-20% of all elbow injuries in children and in 30-55% of cases they are associated with an elbow dislocation. Undisplaced fractures are usually treated conservatively but literature is controversial regarding the treatment of displaced fractures (≥5mm) in paediatric fractures. In recent years, there is an emerging consensus that such patients may benefit more from open reduction and internal fixation.

Objectives: We present the results of a prospective, randomized, crossover, single-blind, study in which each patient is in control of himself. The aim was to evaluate subperception-based (SP-SCS) waveforms in previously implanted spinal cord stimulation (SCS) patients with leg and/or back pain due to failed back surgery syndrome, who experienced only paresthesia-based stimulation (PB-SCS). Patients with PB-SCS experience in SCS was 4.

Background: Healthcare-Associated Infections are a great concern for worldwide healthcare systems and represent a considerable threat to patient safety, leading to adverse clinical outcomes. A defined panel of indicators represents a key element to guide Healthcare Organizations towards identification of main gaps, implementation of effective actions and continuous improvements on Healthcare-Associated Infections prevention and control activities. A review on accreditation systems conducted by the Italian Study Group of Hospital Hygiene of the Italian Society of Hygiene Preventive Medicine and Public Health revealed a substantial heterogeneity of implemented standards and led to the development of a core set of indicators and requirements for Healthcare-Associated Infections' prevention and control within the hospital setting.

Introduction: Assessing the feasibility, technical implications, and clinical benefits of peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) performed by an implantable pulse generator (IPG) located close to the stimulation site.

Materials And Methods: Selected patients were affected by neuropathic pain associated with a documented peripheral nerve lesion, refractory to conventional surgical or pharmacological treatment. A PNS system specifically designed for peripheral placement (Neurimpulse, Padova, Italy) was implanted and followed for six months, recording the degree of patient's satisfaction (PGI-I questionnaire), the pain numerical rating scale (NRS) and the quality of life (SF36 questionnaire), as well as any change in drug regimen and work capability.

Peripheral subcutaneous neurostimulation in the management of neuropathic pain: five case reports.

Neuromodulation

April 2009

Pain Therapy Center, Oglio-Po Hospital, Vicomoscano, Cremona, Italy; Pain Therapy Center, Maugeri Foundation, Pavia, Italy.

Introduction.  Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an effective treatment option for neuropathic pain. However, because of the obvious procedural issues, SCS is unable to reach certain areas, such as the face, thorax, coccyx, the cervico-dorsal and lumbar areas, and the sacral, abdominal, and inguinal regions.

Preeclampsia: correlation between changes in symptomatology and changes in diet.

Acta Biomed Ateneo Parmense

March 1999

Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Oglio Po Hospital, Casalmaggiore, Cremona, Italy.

This study analyzes 13 cases of pregnant women affected by varying degrees of preeclampsia, and correlates the patients' data (height, weight, preeclampsia symptoms according to intensity and time of onset) to the amount of mean daily intake of nutrients (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, starch, total calories, Na). The amount of nutrients was obtained processing with a special computer software the patients' weekly dietary diaries. The analysis of the data shows the correlation between the onset of preeclampsia symptomatology and the excess of certain nutrients: excess in calories and/or proteins, and/or lipids, and/or simple sugars, and/or sodium.
