In addition to being the main cause of death and premature mortality in Europe, cardiovascular diseases are increasingly becoming a significant burden on public health, productivity and healthcare resources. At 34 %, coronary heart disease (CHD) represents the largest proportion of this spectrum (1). The traditional understanding of CHD, which focused almost exclusively on epicardial atherosclerotic stenoses, is now considered outdated.

Growth hormone (GH) is the key regulator of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) generation in healthy states. However, portal insulin delivery is also an essential co-player in the regulation of the GH/IGF-I axis by affecting and regulating hepatic GH receptor synthesis, and subsequently altering hepatic GH sensitivity and IGF-I generation. Disease states of GH excess (e.

Preclinical data suggest that gestational exposure to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) alter gut innervation, and delays colonic motility. In this study we investigated associations between gestational SSRI exposure and offspring disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI). Using population-based registries, we included all single-birth Danish children born 1997-2015 with follow-up until outcome occurrence, age 15 years, death, emigration, or December 2018.

Background: The Blood Pressure and Oxygenation Targets After out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (BOX) trial found no statistically significant differences in mortality or neurological outcomes with mean arterial blood pressure targets of 63 versus 77 mmHg in patients receiving intensive care post-cardiac arrest. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect on 1-year mortality and assess heterogeneity in treatment effects (HTE) using Bayesian statistics.
Methods: We analyzed 1-year all-cause mortality, 1-year neurological outcomes, and plasma neuron-specific enolase (NSE) at 48 hours using Bayesian logistic and linear regressions primarily with weakly informative priors.

Background: The prognosis after ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) continues to be worse in women. We hypothesize that sex-based differences in neurohormonal response may be a contributor to sex-specific differences in mortality risk.
Aims: To investigate whether the association between sex and mortality could in part be explained by levels of neurohormonal activation in patients with STEMI.

Neuromodulation has been used in the treatment of various pelvic organ dysfunctions for almost 40 years and several placebo-controlled studies have confirmed its clinical effect. Many neuromodulation methods using different devices and stimulation parameters, targeting different neural structures have been introduced, but only a limited number have been adopted into routine clinical use. A substantial volume of basic research and clinical studies addressing specific effects of neuromodulation in the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) have been published to date; however, their mechanistic implications have not been comprehensively summarized.
