Purpose: Ranibizumab is a frequently used inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the treatment of macular edema following central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). Studying proteins that mediate the beneficial effects of ranibizumab in CRVO can potentially lead to the improved management of macular edema.
Methods: In 14 Danish Landrace pigs, experimental CRVO was induced in the right eyes and treated with either intravitreal ranibizumab (n = 6) or an intravitreal sodium chloride 9 mg/mL solution as a sham injection (n = 8).
Delayed neutrophil recovery during acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) treatment increases risk of infection and causes delay in chemotherapy. Emerging evidence implicates the gut microbiota in neutrophil reconstitution after chemotherapy. We explored the interplay between the gut microbiota and neutrophil dynamics, including neutrophil chemoattractants, in 51 children with newly-diagnosed ALL.

Aims: Glioblastoma is the most malignant primary brain tumour. Even with standard treatment comprising surgery followed by radiation and concomitant temozolomide (TMZ) chemotherapy, glioblastoma remains incurable. Almost all patients with glioblastoma relapse owing to various intrinsic and extrinsic resistance mechanisms of the tumour cells.

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the consistency of lung cancer case assessments across multidisciplinary team (MDT) sites in Denmark. The goal was to appraise the comparability of outcomes between hospitals in a real-world context.
Methods: We prepared sixty comprehensive, fictitious lung cancer case stories, complete with images, and distributed them to the four primary lung cancer MDT conferences in Denmark.

Objective: Although family-centred care (FCC) is recommended in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), barriers still exist. This study aimed to identify and understand and nurse-related factors contributing to the implementation of a father-friendly NICU (FF-NICU).
Methods: Eleven pre- and post-implementation focus groups were conducted with 21 nurses.

Background: Periprosthetic knee fracture (PPKF) following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can be difficult to treat. A PPKF can be treated both operatively and nonoperatively, and the treatment varies between fracture sites. This study aimed to assess the risk of reoperation according to the fracture site and treatment of the PPKF.

Advancing 3D in vitro human tissue models is crucial for biomedical research and drug development to address the ethical and biological limitations of animal testing. Recently, 3D skin models have proven to be effective for studying serious skin conditions, such as melanoma. For these advanced models to be applicable in preclinical studies, thorough characterization is essential to understand their applicability and limitations.

Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) is an aneurismal type of macular neovascularization that show similarities with age-related macular degeneration and diseases that are part of the pachychoroid disease spectrum. Exudative changes in PCV can be treated with intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor monotherapy; however, a combination therapy with photodynamic therapy may be required. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we evaluated the efficacy of faricimab for PCV.

Background: At the regional transfusion service in the Region of Southern Denmark, serological investigations are primarily carried out using column agglutination techniques. This case study examines an unusual instance of reagent interference in pretransfusion testing using column agglutination at the Hospital of Southern Denmark, Aabenraa.
Case Presentation: A 72-year-old male patient presented for pretransfusion testing prior to hernia surgery.

Background: Shared decision making in healthcare is a fundamental right for patients. Healthcare professionals' perception of their own abilities to enable shared decision making is crucial for implementing shared decision making within service. IcanSDM (I can shared decision making) is a brief measure to investigate healthcare professionals' perception of shared decision making approaches to their practices.

This systematic review and network meta-analysis aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy of 2-[F]FDG-PET/CT, F-NaF-PET/CT, MRI, contrast-enhanced CT, and bone scintigraphy for diagnosing bone metastases in patients with breast cancer. Following PRISMA-DTA guidelines, we reviewed studies assessing 2-[F]FDG-PET/CT, F-NaF-PET/CT, MRI, contrast-enhanced CT, and bone scintigraphy for diagnosing bone metastases in high-stage primary breast cancer (stage III or IV) or known primary breast cancer with suspicion of recurrence (staging or re-staging). A comprehensive search of MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus, and Embase was conducted until February 2024.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) involves a complex pathophysiology of neurodegeneration that leads to severe cognitive deficiencies. Understanding the molecular alterations that underlie this disease is fundamental to clinical management and therapeutic innovation. Functional imaging with positron emission tomography (PET) enables a visualization of these impaired pathways, such as cerebral hypometabolism, amyloid and tau accumulation, and neurotransmitter dysfunction.

Serrated Polyposis Syndrome (SPS) is characterized by multiple and/or large serrated polyps in the colon and an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). The etiology is largely unknown, but in a subset of patients with SPS, monoallelic pathogenic variants in RNF43 are detected. To date, however, the penetrance and phenotypic spectrum of patients carrying pathogenic variants (PV) in RNF43 are poorly described.

Background: Injection of autologous adipose-derived regenerative cells (ADRCs) combined with lipotransfer has been suggested to alleviate symptoms in diseases including breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL). We recently performed a randomized controlled trial injecting lipoaspirate with ADRCs into the axilla of BCRL patients, and here we aimed in the intervention group to define in an unbiased fashion whether ADRC injection was linked to the clinical outcome.
Methods: 39 BCRL patients received lipotransfer assisted with autologous ADRCs (4.

The microbiota in individual habitats differ in both relative composition and absolute abundance. While sequencing approaches determine the relative abundances of taxa and genes, they do not provide information on their absolute abundances. Here, we developed a machine-learning approach to predict fecal microbial loads (microbial cells per gram) solely from relative abundance data.

The availability and integration of electrophysiological and molecular data from the living brain is critical in understanding and diagnosing complex human disease. Intracranial stereo electroencephalography (SEEG) electrodes used for identifying the seizure focus in patients with epilepsy could enable the integration of such multimodal data. Here, we report multimodal profiling of epileptic brain activity via explanted depth electrodes (MoPEDE), a method that recovers extensive protein-coding transcripts, including cell type markers, DNA methylation, and short variant profiles from explanted SEEG electrodes matched with electrophysiological and radiological data allowing for high-resolution reconstructions of brain structure and function.
