Proteomics to Identify New Blood Biomarkers for Diagnosing Patients With Acute Stroke.

Background: Blood biomarkers are a potential tool for early stroke diagnosis. We aimed to perform a pilot and exploratory study on untargeted blood biomarkers in patients with suspected stroke by using mass spectrometry analysis.

Methods And Results: This was a prospective observational study of consecutive patients with suspected stroke admitted within 6 hours of last being seen well.

Novel technique of detecting inflammatory and osseous changes in the glenohumeral joint associated with patient age and weight using FDG- and NaF-PET imaging.

Objective: The glenohumeral (GH) joint is a classic ball-and-socket joint of the shoulder subject to various pathologies including osteoarthritis (OA). Degenerative changes of the OA evident on traditional imaging are proceeded by molecular changes, which if detected early could enhance disease prevention and treatment. In this study, we use F-FluoroDeoxyGlucose (FDG) and F-sodium-fluoride (NaF)-PET/CT to investigate the effects limb laterality, age, and BMI on the inflammation and bone turnover of the GH shoulder joint.

A randomised trial of [F]PSMA-1007-PET/CT versus NaF-PET/CT for staging primary prostate cancer: A trial protocol.

Background: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-positron emission tomography/contrast-enhanced computed tomography (PET/CT) is a sensitive imaging modality for prostate cancer (PCa). Due to lack of knowledge of the patient benefit, PSMA-PET/CT is not yet recommended in the European guidelines for staging and treatment planning of patients with newly diagnosed PCa. We will investigate the potential difference in progression-free survival (PFS) and quality of life (QoL) of using PSMA-PET/CT versus sodium fluoride (NaF)-PET/CT for staging and treatment planning in patients with newly diagnosed PCa.

The impact of age and obesity on outcomes among patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Denmark: A nationwide cohort study.

Purpose: Obesity may alter the severity of infection with Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Age may impact the association between body weight and severity of COVID-19 in patients with obesity. The aim of the study was to examine the association between obesity and severity of infection in a Danish cohort hospitalized with COVID-19 in the initial wave of the pandemic.

Retention of emergency cricothyroidotomy skills: A multicenter randomized controlled trial.

Objectives: Emergency cricothyroidotomy is the final approach to establishing a secure airway. The procedure is acute and highly infrequent, making it difficult to achieve and maintain competence in the clinic. Simulation-based training in emergency cricothyroidotomy is effective but it is unknown how often training should be repeated to maintain skills.

Patterns of testing in the extensive Danish national SARS-CoV-2 test set-up.

Background: The Danish national SARS-CoV-2 mass test system was among the most ambitious worldwide. We describe its set-up and analyse differences in patterns of testing per demography and time period in relation to the three waves of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in Denmark.

Methods: We included all reported PCR- and rapid antigen-tests performed between 27 February 2020 and 10 March 2022 among all residents aged 2 years or above.

Fracture Risk in Men and Women With Vertebral Fractures Identified Opportunistically on Routine Computed Tomography Scans and Not Treated for Osteoporosis: An Observational Cohort Study.

Vertebral fractures (VFs) have been associated with future fractures, yet few studies have evaluated whether this pertains to VFs available for identification on routine radiological imaging. We sought to evaluate the risk of subsequent fractures in subjects with VF identified opportunistically on computed tomography (CT) scans performed as part of routine clinical practice. From the radiology database of Holbæk Hospital we identified the first CT scan including the thorax and/or abdomen of 2000 consecutive men and women aged 50 years or older, performed from January 1, 2010 onward.

Impact of Impella RP Versus Vasoactive Treatment on Right and Left Ventricular Strain in a Porcine Model of Acute Cardiogenic Shock Induced by Right Coronary Artery Embolization.

Background The response of the left ventricle to cardiogenic shock (CS) caused by right ventricular (RV) infarction and the effect of treatment with either vasoactive treatment or Impella RP are not well described. We sought to determine RV and left ventricular longitudinal strain (LS) by echocardiography after initiation of either Impella RP or vasoactive treatment for CS induced by right coronary artery embolization. Methods and Results CS was induced with microsphere embolization in the right coronary artery in 20 pigs.

Electrical stimulation of the dorsal clitoral nerve in the treatment of idiopathic defecatory urgency. A pilot study.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of dorsal clitoral nerve stimulation (DCNS) on bothersome urgency to defecate with or without fecal incontinence and the patient-reported discomfort or adverse effect with the method.

Methods: For dorsal clitoral nerve stimulation, a battery powered, handheld stimulator was used, set to a pulse width of 200 µs and a frequency of 20 Hz. One electrode was placed at the preputium of the clitoris and acted as cathode while an anode electrode was placed on the belly.

Beta-blockers in the era of precision medicine in patients with cirrhosis.

For decades, non-selective beta-blockers (NSBBs) have been the standard of care for the primary and secondary prevention of bleeding from oesophageal varices. However, several questions regarding the best clinical use of NSBBs remain unanswered and new data continue to emerge. Herein, we aim to delineate the therapeutic window of NSBBs in cirrhosis from a more individualised perspective.

Predictors of pocket hematoma after cardiac implantable electronic device surgery: A nationwide cohort study.

Purpose: Clinically significant pocket hematoma (CSH) is a common complication to cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) surgery. We aimed to evaluate predictors of CSH after CIED surgery.

Methods: We performed a nationwide population-based prospective cohort study with systematic patient chart review of all Danish patients undergoing CIED surgery during a 12-month period.

Background And Aims: The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is known to affect multiple organs by binding to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptors and might therefore affect male fertility. This review aims to collect all original articles on the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on male fertility, including the duration of time after infection required for these effects to begin to manifest and recommend how clinicians should approach cases with a recent illness.

Methods: This review was developed according to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines.

The antimony(iii) complex of 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetate (DOTA) has been prepared and its exceptionally low stability observed. The Sb(iii) ion in Na[Sb(DOTA)]·4HO shows an approximately square antiprismatic coordination geometry that is close to superimposable to the Bi(iii) geometry in [Bi(DOTA)] in two phases containing this anion, Na[Bi(DOTA)]·4HO, [HO][Bi(DOTA)]·HO for which structures are also described. Interestingly, DOTA itself in [(HDOTA)]Cl·4HO·DMSO shows the same orientation of the NO metal binding cavity reflecting the limited flexibility of DOTA in an octadentate coordination mode.

Migraine-Associated Mutation in the Na,K-ATPase Leads to Disturbances in Cardiac Metabolism and Reduced Cardiac Function.

Background Mutations in gene encoding the Na,K-ATPase α isoform are associated with familial hemiplegic migraine type 2. Migraine with aura is a known risk factor for heart disease. The Na,K-ATPase is important for cardiac function, but its role for heart disease remains unknown.

High-dose non-sedating antihistamines are used insufficiently in chronic urticaria patients treated with omalizumab.

Background: The lifetime prevalence of chronic urticaria (CU) is 0.5%-1%. In some patients with CU, symptomatic control is not achieved with non-sedating second-generation H1 antihistamines (nsAH1) alone, even with quadrupled standard doses as recommended in international guidelines.

Ketotic hypoglycemia in patients with Down syndrome.

Background: Ketotic hypoglycemia (KH) without an identifiable underlying metabolic or hormonal disease is historically named idiopathic KH. The prevalence is unknown, but idiopathic KH is considered the most frequent cause of hypoglycemia beyond the neonatal period. KH in Down syndrome (DS) has not been reported.
