2024 HRS perspective on advancing workflows for CIED remote monitoring.

Cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) generate substantial data, often stored in image or PDF formats. Remote monitoring, now an integral component of patient care, places considerable administrative burdens on clinicians and staff, in large part due to the challenge of integrating these data seamlessly into electronic health records. Since 2006, the Heart Rhythm Society, in collaboration with the CIED industry, has led an initiative to establish a unified standard nomenclature.

Emotion dysregulation in youths with obsessive-compulsive disorder and its implication for treatment - An exploratory study from the TECTO trial: A protocol and statistical analysis plan.

Background: Research on improving psychotherapy for youths with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), should explore what works for whom and how by examining baseline moderators and potential mechanisms of change. Emotion dysregulation is proposed as an intermediate therapy factor in a transdiagnostic framework. This study investigates emotion dysregulation as an outcome, mechanism, and moderator of psychotherapy in youths aged 8-17 years with OCD.

Drug use and acute kidney injury: a Drug-Wide Association Study (DWAS) in Denmark and Sweden.

Background: Knowledge of which medications may lead to acute kidney injury (AKI) is limited, relying mostly on spontaneous reporting in pharmacovigilance systems. We here conducted an exploratory drug-wide association study (DWAS) to screen for associations between dispensed drugs and AKI risk.

Methods: Using two large Danish and Swedish data linkages, we identified AKI hospitalizations occurring between April 1997 and December 2021 in Denmark and between March 2007 and December 2021 in Sweden.

Improving consumer trust in digital health: A mixed methods study involving people living with chronic kidney disease.

Aim: To explore preferences, experience and trust in digital health in people living with chronic kidney disease (CKD), and tailor these findings towards solutions that may enhance uptake of digital health services.

Methods: Mixed methods study, with cross-sectional survey and individual interviews with adults living with CKD attending specialist appointments at an Australian metropolitan hospital. Descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon matched-pairs test were used for survey responses and thematic analysis of interview transcripts, both reported on a theme-by-theme basis provided an overall understanding of trust in digital healthcare.

Language - a vital pill missing in patients' treatment: language barriers during cancer care through the eyes of patients and families.

Purpose: When serious illness occurs, effective communication is essential but challenged by language barriers. This study explores how patients with limited Danish proficiency and their families experience language barriers during cancer care in two Danish public hospitals.

Method: Adopting a phenomenological-hermeneutic approach, the study stresses narratives in understanding participants' lived experiences.

Aarskog-Scott syndrome: a clinical study based on a large series of 111 male patients with a pathogenic variant in and management recommendations.

Background: Aarskog-Scott syndrome (AAS) is a rare condition with multiple congenital anomalies, caused by hemizygote variants in the gene. Its description was based mostly on old case reports, in whom a molecular diagnosis was not always available, or on small series. The aim of this study was to better delineate the phenotype and the natural history of AAS and to provide clues for the diagnosis and the management of the patients.

The role of accidental hypothermia in drowning patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: A nationwide registry-based cohort study.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the associations between hypothermia and mortality or poor neurological outcome in a nationwide cohort of drowning patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

Methods: This nationwide, registry-based cohort study reported in-hospital data on drowning patients with OHCA following the Utstein Style For Drowning. Drowning patients with OHCA were identified in the Danish Cardiac Arrest Registry from 2016 to 2021.

Background: Around 7% of the global population has congenital hemoglobin disorders, with over 300,000 new cases of α-thalassemia annually. Diagnosis is costly and inaccurate in low-income regions, often relying on complete blood count (CBC) tests. This study employs machine learning (ML) to classify α-thalassemia traits based on gender and CBC, exploring the effects of grouping silent- and non-carriers.

Optimizing Mechanical Ventilation: A Clinical and Practical Bedside Method for the Identification and Management of Patient-Ventilator Asynchronies in Critical Care.

The prompt identification and correction of patient-ventilator asynchronies (PVA) remain a cornerstone for ensuring the quality of respiratory failure treatment and the prevention of further injury to critically ill patients. These disruptions, whether due to over- or under-assistance, have a profound clinical impact not only on the respiratory mechanics and the mortality associated with mechanical ventilation but also on the patient's cardiac output and hemodynamic profile. Strong evidence has demonstrated that these frequently occurring and often underdiagnosed events have significant prognostic value for mechanical ventilation outcomes and are strongly associated with prolonged ICU stays and hospital mortality.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic reignited interest in CCE, its role in conventional gastrointestinal investigations remains unclear, leading to varied practices across Europe. This highlights the need for a comprehensive understanding of diverse approaches to CCE in clinical practice.

S6K2 in Focus: Signaling Pathways, Post-Translational Modifications, and Computational Analysis.

Bacteraemia after transcatheter aortic valve implantation: a nationwide cohort study.

Background: Bacteraemia and infective endocarditis (IE) are rare but severe complications of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Limited data exist on the incidence and microbiological profile of early bacteraemia in this population. This study aimed to evaluate the 6-month incidence of bacteraemia, IE and associated mortality following TAVI.

Vacuum-Assisted Closure Significantly Reduces Surgical Postoperative Complications Compared With Primary Abdominal Closure in Patients With Secondary Peritonitis: A Comparative Retrospective Study.

Background: Vacuum-assisted abdominal closure (VAC) is being increasingly used as an adjunctive procedure in the surgical treatment of secondary peritonitis. This study compared postoperative mortality and complication rates between VAC and primary abdominal closure (PAC).

Method: This retrospective chart review included all patients diagnosed with secondary peritonitis who underwent laparotomy between 2010 and 2019.

Introduction: Maternal autoimmune systemic connective tissue diseases (CTDs) and their related antibodies have been associated with adverse fetal outcomes, including complete heart block. In this study, we assessed the association between maternal CTD or vasculitis and neonatal electrocardiographic (ECG) parameters.

Methods: Our study population was drawn from the Copenhagen Baby Heart Study (CBHS), a prospective, population-based cohort study open to all neonates born in the Copenhagen area.
