A case of acute appendicitis caused by obstruction due to caecal cancer.

Acute appendicitis supposedly results from appendix obstruction caused by various conditions, including caecal cancer. Here, we report an adenocarcinoma found in the specimen of a 65-year-old man diagnosed with acute appendicitis. The adenocarcinoma was detected in the appendix stump after emergency laparoscopic appendectomy.

Well-leg compartment syndrome after laparoscopic low anterior resection in the lithotomy position: a case report and literature review.

Well-leg compartment syndrome (WLCS) develops in healthy lower limbs because of surgical factors such as operative position, lower limb compression, and long operative time during abdominopelvic surgery. WLCS can lead to irreversible muscle and nerve damage if a prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment are not provided. We report the case of a 57-year-old male who developed rectal cancer immediately after laparoscopic low anterior resection and was successfully treated with fasciotomy without sequelae.

Immune-related adverse events in hepatitis treated with thiopurine-based immunosuppressants: A case report.

An 82-year-old man was treated with ipilimumab and nivolumab for malignant pleural mesothelioma. Although he was previously treated with prednisolone (1 mg/kg/day) for immune-related adverse event (irAE) hepatitis by a previous doctor, he still had worsening liver function and was transferred to our hospital. Blood tests and imaging findings were negative for autoimmune and infectious hepatitis, and liver biopsy results were consistent with irAE hepatitis.

Questionnaire survey on the prevention and development of cervical cancer in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus in Japan.

Objectives: The aim is to evaluate the prevention and development of cervical cancer in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients in Japan and its background based on a questionnaire survey.

Methods: The questionnaire was handed to 460 adult female SLE patients at 12 medical institutions. The participants were grouped by age, and data related to their human papillomavirus vaccination status, age at first coitus, cervical cancer screening, and diagnosis of cervical cancer were analysed.

Bowel intussusception and adhesive intestinal obstruction in neurofibromatosis type 1.

We report the case that a patient with Neurofibromatosis type 1 experienced bowel intussusception and adhesive intestinal obstruction. Bowel intussusception was considered to be due to long intestinal tube and multiple intraabdominal lesions including gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs).

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to examine the immediate-term effect of positive-word stimuli via a smartphone application on the multi-directional reach ability in standing position in young adults.

Methods: This study was an immediate-term, assessor-blinded, two-arm, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial among young adults recruited from one university in Japan. Participants were randomly assigned to the experimental group or control group using a computer-based random number-generating programme.

Severe hypoglycaemia under abemaciclib administration in a patient with breast cancer: A case report.

The current study reports the case of an 80-year-old woman who experienced severe hypoglycaemia after abemaciclib administration, with a recovery time of ~46 h. Abemaciclib is a cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6) inhibitor that is used to treat metastatic breast cancer. A side effect of abemaciclib administration is an increase in creatinine levels.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in the ampulla of vater causing obstructive jaundice: report of a case.

We report a case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in the ampulla of Vater, causing painless obstructive jaundice in a 78-year-old woman. Duodenal endoscopy revealed a mass in the ampulla of Vater and narrowing of the second portion of the duodenum, although diagnosing DLBCL from an endoscopic biopsy was impossible because there were several kinds of leukocytes in the infiltrate. We performed pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy to establish a histological diagnosis, relieve the obstructive jaundice, and remove the narrowed second portion of the duodenum.
