Background: Ceftolozane-tazobactam and ceftazidime-avibactam are preferred treatment options for multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections; however, real-world comparative effectiveness studies are scarce. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic differences between the agents might affect clinical response rates. We aimed to compare the effectiveness of ceftolozane-tazobactam and ceftazidime-avibactam for treatment of invasive multidrug-resistant P aeruginosa infections.

The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this PAP flap in head and neck reconstruction.

Fixed-drug eruptions (FDEs) are dermatological reactions characterized by specific skin lesions triggered by certain medications. Our case reports commonly used medications that can cause drug-induced skin reactions. Chlorthalidone, a widely used diuretic, had not been prominently linked to FDEs.

Mass vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been safe and effective. The ongoing emergence of vaccine-induced complications has challenged the public trust in vaccination programs and, though uncommon, can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. Vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia and thrombosis (VITT) is a rare and fatal complication of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Aim: Heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) and end stage kidney disease (ESKD) are independent conditions associated with increased mortality and morbidity, however, whether ESKD is an independent risk factor for increased mortality in HIT admissions is not well studied. Therefore, we aimed to compare in-hospital mortality in HIT admissions based on their ESKD status.
Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of HIT hospitalizations aged 18 and older using the 2016-2019 national inpatient sample (NIS) database.

Background: With the results of the largest randomized controlled trial (RECOVERY) and the most extensive retrospective cohort study on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) recently published, we performed a meta-analysis on the association of aspirin with mortality of COVID-19. We aimed to investigate the role of aspirin in COVID-19 hospitalizations.
Materials And Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane databases for studies from 1 January 2020 until 20 July 2022, that compared aspirin versus non-aspirin use in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Purpose: Surgical resection is the only potential curative treatment for patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), but unfortunately most patients recur within 5 years of surgery. This article aims to assess the practice patterns across major academic institutions and develop consensus recommendations for postoperative imaging and interpretation in patients with PDAC.
Methods: The consensus recommendations for postoperative imaging surveillance following PDAC resection were developed using the Delphi method.

The adverse events and complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continue to challenge the medical profession despite the worldwide vaccination against the severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causative agent of COVID-19. Other than typical respiratory manifestations, COVID-19 also presents a wide range of neurological manifestations. This article underlines the pooled incidence of COVID-19-induced seizures in patients with epilepsy and without epilepsy.

Early (2020) reports on mortality in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who underwent orthopedic surgery ranged from 20.5% to 56%, but these studies included elderly patients with multiple comorbidities. The mortality rate for younger and asymptomatic COVID-19-positive patients undergoing orthopedic surgery after high-energy trauma is underreported.

Diabetes is an immunocompromising condition, and diabetic children should receive the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide (PPSV23) vaccine as part of their preventive care because of their increased risk for invasive pneumococcal disease. This recommendation is often not followed, however, and at our institution, we discovered that a factor limiting vaccine administration was lack of knowledge about the recommendation among residents. Our objective with this quality improvement initiative was to improve pneumococcal vaccination rates among the inpatient pediatric diabetic population to 70% in 6 months.

Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis is a class of autoimmune diseases that can cause kidney failure because of mononuclear cell infiltration and the destruction of small and medium-sized blood vessels. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may trigger or exacerbate autoimmune diseases. We present a case of ANCA-associated vasculitis in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis after a COVID-19 infection, who presented with intermittent hemoptysis and dyspnea and was diagnosed with COVID-19 pneumonia three weeks ago.

Respiratory distress is a clinical finding often seen in neonates. Common causes of respiratory distress in this population include respiratory distress syndrome, transient tachypnea of the newborn, infection, aspiration, and cardiac etiologies. We present the case of a neonate who presented with respiratory distress with no identifiable cause on initial workup.

Patients with hematological malignancies, both treated and untreated, or solid tumors undergoing treatment are at risk of life-threatening complications, which may present in the emergency department (ED). Such emergencies are diverse in etiology and often require prompt treatment. Traditional complications, such as febrile neutropenia, have had recent guideline updates, which incorporate new evidence and a new validated risk stratification tool.

Background: Angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) therapy has been evaluated to slow down the disease progression in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), but there is scarce evidence available to date. Therefore, our meta-analysis aimed to explore the efficacy of ARB therapy as a potential disease-modifying treatment in patients with HCM.
Methods: A literature search was performed using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane library, and Clinicaltrials.

Introduction: Cardiac arrest is often fatal if not treated immediately by cardiopulmonary resuscitation to restore a normal heart rhythm and spontaneous circulation. We aim to evaluate the clinical benefits of vasopressin and methylprednisolone versus placebo for patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest.
Data Sources: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Central, and Google Scholar from inception to October 17, 2021, by using search terms included "Vasopressin" AND "Methylprednisolone" AND "Cardiac arrest".

We aimed to evaluate the clinical benefits of dexmedetomidine (DEX) in comparison with the standard of care (SOC) sedation in critically ill, septic patients. Electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Central, Scopus, and Google Scholar) were systematically searched to identify only randomized clinical trials performed up until February 12, 2021. The primary outcomes were 28-day mortality, 90-day mortality, and intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay (LOS).

Mass vaccination against coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) has effectively controlled the pandemic and has been remarkably effective and safe. Reports of a few adverse events have been reported after post-marketing surveillance. We present a rare case of multiple sclerosis (MS) relapse in a female who presented with fatigue, involuntary eye movements, and numbness; autoimmunity following the COVID-19 vaccine has also been described.
