Objective: The profunda artery perforator (PAP) flap has gained popularity in head and neck reconstruction with a favorable donor site providing a relatively hidden scar and the ability to harvest a large amount of pliable tissue with consistent vascular anatomy. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this PAP flap in head and neck reconstruction.

Aim: Heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) and end stage kidney disease (ESKD) are independent conditions associated with increased mortality and morbidity, however, whether ESKD is an independent risk factor for increased mortality in HIT admissions is not well studied. Therefore, we aimed to compare in-hospital mortality in HIT admissions based on their ESKD status.

Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of HIT hospitalizations aged 18 and older using the 2016-2019 national inpatient sample (NIS) database.

Background: With the results of the largest randomized controlled trial (RECOVERY) and the most extensive retrospective cohort study on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) recently published, we performed a meta-analysis on the association of aspirin with mortality of COVID-19. We aimed to investigate the role of aspirin in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

Materials And Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane databases for studies from 1 January 2020 until 20 July 2022, that compared aspirin versus non-aspirin use in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

This article aims to assess the practice patterns across major academic institutions and develop consensus recommendations for postoperative imaging and interpretation in patients with PDAC.

Methods: The consensus recommendations for postoperative imaging surveillance following PDAC resection were developed using the Delphi method.

Early (2020) reports on mortality in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who underwent orthopedic surgery ranged from 20.5% to 56%, but these studies included elderly patients with multiple comorbidities. The mortality rate for younger and asymptomatic COVID-19-positive patients undergoing orthopedic surgery after high-energy trauma is underreported.

Diabetes is an immunocompromising condition, and diabetic children should receive the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide (PPSV23) vaccine as part of their preventive care because of their increased risk for invasive pneumococcal disease. This recommendation is often not followed, however, and at our institution, we discovered that a factor limiting vaccine administration was lack of knowledge about the recommendation among residents. Our objective with this quality improvement initiative was to improve pneumococcal vaccination rates among the inpatient pediatric diabetic population to 70% in 6 months.

Mass vaccination against coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) has effectively controlled the pandemic and has been remarkably effective and safe. Reports of a few adverse events have been reported after post-marketing surveillance. We present a rare case of multiple sclerosis (MS) relapse in a female who presented with fatigue, involuntary eye movements, and numbness; autoimmunity following the COVID-19 vaccine has also been described.
