Pathogenic variants of SP-C, which cause various lung diseases with varying ages of onset, are inherited in an autosomal dominant manner or appear de novo as new mutations. We present a case of fatal respiratory failure in a female infant. Genetic analysis confirmed an intragenic deletion encompassing exon 4 in the SFTPC gene, starting in the intron region before exon 4, extending into the exon 4 and portion, in a heterozygous state.

Fast and Fault-Tolerant Passive Hyperbolic Localization Using Sensor Consensus.

The accuracy of passive hyperbolic localization applications using Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) measurements can be severely compromised in non-line-of-sight (NLOS) situations. Consensus functions have been successfully used to provide robust and accurate location estimates in such challenging situations. In this paper, a fast branch-and-bound computational method for finding the global maximum of consensus functions is proposed and the global convergence property of the algorithm is mathematically proven.

Objectives: To compare the repeatability and interrelation of various late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) assessment techniques for monitoring fibrotic changes in myocarditis follow-up.

Materials And Methods: LGE extent change between baseline and 3-month cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) was compared in patients with acute myocarditis using the full width at half maximum (FWHM), gray-scale thresholds at 5 and 6 standard deviations (SD5 and SD6), visual assessment with threshold (VAT) and full manual (FM) techniques. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are an integral part of the tumor microenvironment (TME); however, their role is somewhat controversial: conflicting reports suggest that, depending on the stage of tumor development, MSCs can either support or suppress tumor growth and spread. Additionally, the influence of MSCs on drug resistance is also ambiguous. Previously, we showed that, despite MSCs proliferating significantly more slowly than cancer cells, there are chemotherapeutic drugs which proved to be similarly toxic to both cell types.

Purpose: Large scintillation crystals-based gamma cameras play a crucial role in nuclear medicine imaging. In this study, a large field-of-view (FOV) gamma detector consisting of 48 square PMTs developed using a new readout electronics, reducing 48 (6 × 8) analog signals to 14 (6 + 8) analog sums of each row and column, with reduced complexity and cost while preserving image quality.

Methods: All 14 analog signals were converted to digital signals using AD9257 high-speed analog to digital (ADC) converters driven by the SPARTAN-6 family of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) in order to calculate the signal integrals.

The objective of this work was to review comparisons of the efficacy of Ga-PSMA-11 (prostate-specific membrane antigen) PET/CT and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) in the detection of prostate cancer among patients undergoing initial staging prior to radical prostatectomy or experiencing recurrent prostate cancer, based on histopathological data. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed and Web of Science, and relevant articles were analyzed with various parameters, including year of publication, study design, patient count, age, PSA (prostate-specific antigen) value, Gleason score, standardized uptake value (SUV), detection rate, treatment history, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and PI-RADS (prostate imaging reporting and data system) scores. Only studies directly comparing PSMA-PET and mpMRI were considered, while those examining combined accuracy or focusing on either modality alone were excluded.

Obesity and diabetes are a progressively more and more deleterious hallmark of modern, well fed societies. In order to study the potential impact of strategies designed to obviate the pathological consequences of detrimental lifestyles, a model for the development of Type 2 diabetes geared towards large population simulations would be useful. The present work introduces such a model, representing in simplified fashion the interplay between average glycemia, average insulinemia and functional beta-cell mass, and incorporating the effects of excess food intake or, conversely, of physical activity levels.

In Nigeria, statistics reveal that there is a high rate of cervical cancer among women and a significant lack of awareness surrounding Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which poses a substantial risk of HPV infection. This cross-sectional survey, conducted at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University, focuses on adapting and exploring the factors that influence a 20-item scale to measure HPV knowledge, evaluating knowledge-associated patterns and HPV-associated risk factors. This study investigated the impact of ComBat harmonization on the reproducibility of radiomic features extracted from magnetic resonance images (MRI) acquired on different scanners, using various data acquisition parameters and multiple image pre-processing techniques using a dedicated MRI phantom.
