The following review is focused on carrageenan, a heteroglycan-based substance that is a very significant wound healing biomaterial. Every biomaterial has advantages and weaknesses of its own, but these drawbacks are typically outweighed by combining the material in various ways with other substances. Carrageenans' key benefits include their water solubility, which enables them to keep the wound and periwound damp and absorb the wound exudate.

Scar-Free Laparoscopy in BRCA-Mutated Women.

Medicina (Kaunas)

July 2022

Department of Maternal and Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, University-Hospital of Udine, 33100 Udine, Italy.

: BRCA 1 and 2 mutations have a cumulative risk of developing ovarian cancer at 70 years of 41% and 15%, respectively, while a cumulative risk of breast cancer by 80 years of age was 72% for BRCA1 mutation carriers and 69% for BRCA2 mutation carriers. The NCCN recommends risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO), typically between 35 and 40 years, and upon completion of childbearing in BRCA1 mutation, while it is reasonable to delay RRSO for management of ovarian cancer risk until age 40-45 years in patients with BRCA2. In recent years there have been two main lines of evolution in laparoscopy.

Research Center for Functional Genomics, Biomedicine and Translational Medicine, "Iuliu Haţieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, 15 Victor Babeș Street, 400012 Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

: Cervical cancer is one of the most common malignancies in women in terms of prevalence and mortality. Cervical cancer has some particularities that distinguish it from any other oncologic pathology: first, it is completely preventable by prompt detection of its precursor, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN); second, the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a known etiological agent; third, the mean age at diagnosis is much lower than in other oncologic conditions, as a consequence of the sexually-transmitted HPV. : We evaluated the expression level of several long noncoding RNAs and a microRNA in samples from 30 patients with CIN, 9 with cervical cancer and 38 normal samples using qRT-PCR technology.

First Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology "G.E. Palade" of Târgu Mureș, Gheorghe Marinescu Street, Number 38, 540142 Târgu Mureș, Romania.

Background: Considerable efforts have been carried out over the past 30 years to support patients with advanced cervical cancer. Throughout this time, Eastern European countries have been left aside from the decision-making groups on this matter, hence the absence of similar studies in this geographical area. In these countries, the quality of life (QoL) of patients with cervical cancer might be considered a “caprice”, and the discomforts they encounter following pelvic exenteration for cervical cancer are often perceived as a “normal phenomenon”.

Epitheliod trophoblastic tumor (ETT) account for only 1-2% of all the cases of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN), with a reported mortality rate of 10-24%. ETT is derived from chorionic type intermediate trophoblastic cells, which appears to be the reason for the only slightly elevated βhCG levels in these patients. We present a case of a 42-year-old patient who was admitted to the clinic eight months after Caesarean delivery, for irregular vaginal bleed with normal values of beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (βhCG).

Due to their similar imaging features, high-grade gliomas (HGGs) and solitary brain metastases (BMs) can be easily misclassified. The peritumoral zone (PZ) of HGGs develops neoplastic cell infiltration, while in BMs the PZ contains pure vasogenic edema. As the two PZs cannot be differentiated macroscopically, this study investigated whether computed tomography (CT)-based texture analysis (TA) of the PZ can reflect the histological difference between the two entities.

Article Synopsis
  • Pyometra (P) can lead to serious health issues like sepsis and multiple organ dysfunction, which are identified through the role of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in recognizing pathogens.
  • A study was conducted on 200 female mice to evaluate the effects of TLR-7 and -9 via the MYD88 pathway and the NFκB response before and after ovariohysterectomy (RP), along with any lung injuries.
  • Results showed significant changes in blood chemistry and immune responses, indicating that the immune system's reaction is tied to the TLR9-MYD88 pathway, marking a notable discovery in the localization and expression of TLRs and their role in lung injury related to pyometra.
