Homelessness and Birth Outcomes in the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, 2016-2020.

Objectives: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of homelessness shortly before or during pregnancy and describe differences in maternal characteristics and adverse birth outcomes between people reporting homelessness and not reporting homelessness.

Methods: We used 2016-2020 Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) data from 31 sites to estimate the prevalence of self-reported homelessness during the 12 months before giving birth. We used logistic regression models to evaluate the association between homelessness and adverse birth outcomes, specifically small for gestational age (SGA), low birth weight (LBW), and preterm birth (PTB).

Genomic investments in antivirus defense can be coarsely classified into two categories, immune systems that abrogate virus reproduction resulting in clearance, and altruistic programmed cell death (PCD) systems. Prokaryotic defense systems are enormously diverse, as revealed by an avalanche of recent discoveries, but the basic ecological determinants of defense strategy remain poorly understood.

Comparative Investigation of Untargeted and Targeted Metabolomics in Turmeric Dietary Supplements and Rhizomes.

In the present study, we analyzed the bioactive curcuminoids content in eight capsules (DS-1-DS-7 and DS-9), one tablet (DS-8), three ground turmeric samples (DS-10-DS-12), and three ground turmeric rhizomes (TR-1, TR-2, and TR-3). Initial screening with infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy coupled with a principal component analysis (PCA) revealed distinct differences between the samples analyzed. Hence, targeted and untargeted analyses were performed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry detections.

A novel framework for increasing research transparency: Exploring the connection between diversity and innovation.

A split sample/dual method research protocol is demonstrated to increase transparency while reducing the probability of false discovery. We apply the protocol to examine whether diversity in ownership teams increases or decreases the likelihood of a firm reporting a novel innovation using data from the 2018 United States Census Bureau's Annual Business Survey. Transparency is increased in three ways: 1) all specification testing and identifying potentially productive models is done in an exploratory subsample that 2) preserves the validity of hypothesis test statistics from de novo estimation in the holdout confirmatory sample with 3) all findings publicly documented in an earlier registered report and in this journal publication.

Effects of short-term, high-dose cocoa-derived flavanol supplementation on gut microbiota composition: secondary findings from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study.

Methods: Sixteen matched paired human cadaveric proximal humeri were randomly allocated for subpectoral BT with either CW or MB using a high-strength suture (N = 16; 8 male, 8 female, mean age = 82.5 years, range 62-99 years).

Background: Epidemiological studies report associations of drinking water disinfection byproducts (DBPs) with adverse health outcomes, including birth defects. Here, we used a rat model susceptible to pregnancy loss (full-litter resorption; FLR) and eye malformations (anophthalmia, microphthalmia) to test 11 DBPs, including trihalomethanes, haloacetic acids (HAAs), and nitrogen-containing DBPs (N-DBPs).

Methods: Timed-pregnant F344 rats received gavage doses of chloroform, chlorodibromomethane, iodoform, chloroacetic acid, bromoacetic acid, dibromoacetic acid (DBA), diiodoacetic acid (DIA), trichloroacetic acid (TCA), dibromonitromethane, and iodoacetonitrile on gestation days (GD) 6-10.
