Bosniak classification version 2019 (v2019) was a major revision to version 2005 (v2005) that defined cystic renal mass subclasses based on wall or septa features. To determine the proportion of malignancy within cystic renal masses stratified by Bosniak classification v2019 class and feature-based subclass. MEDLINE and EMBASE databases were searched on July 24, 2023 for studies published in 2019 or later that reported cystic renal masses that underwent renal-mass CT or MRI, were assessed using Bosniak v2019, and had a reference standard (histopathology indicating benignity or malignancy or ≥5-year imaging follow-up indicating benignity).

Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a multifactorial disease, and the risk of contracting infection is determined by the complex interplays between environmental and host-related factors. While research has shown that certain individuals may have a genetic predisposition for PJI, the existing literature is scarce, and the heterogeneity in the assessed genes limits its clinical applicability. Our review on genetic susceptibility for PJI has the following two objectives: (1) Explore the potential risk of developing PJI based on specific genetic polymorphisms or allelic variations; and (2) Characterize the regulatory cascades involved in the risk of developing PJI.

Simulation-based education often involves learners or teams attempting to manage situations at the limits of their abilities. As a result, it can elicit emotional reactions in participants. These emotions are not good or bad, they simply are.

Riboflavin transporter deficiency (RTD) is a rare and progressive neurodegenerative disease resulting from the disruption of RFVT2- and RFVT3- mediated riboflavin transport caused by biallelic mutations in SLC52A2 and SLC52A3, respectively. The resulting impaired mitochondrial metabolism leads to sensorimotor neurodegeneration and symptoms including muscle weakness, respiratory difficulty, and sensorineural deafness. Although over 70% of patients with RTD improve following high-dose riboflavin supplementation, remaining patients either stabilise or continue to deteriorate.

Introduction: Older adults are at increased risk of severe illness and mortality from Coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) infection. However, public health strategies aimed at reducing spread of COVID-19 may have resulted in increased mental health symptoms, particularly among older adults. Currently, little is known about whether older Veterans were more likely to experience persistent mental health symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic than non-Veterans.

Periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is a surgical procedure that corrects acetabular dysplasia without necessarily addressing intra-articular pathology. Hip arthroscopy is being increasingly used to address soft tissue pathologies at the time of a PAO. This review aims to determine patient-reported outcome measure scores (PROMs) of combining hip arthroscopy and PAO.

Background: Ki-67's response to pre-operative endocrine therapy (ET) in early breast cancer is an evidence-based tool to guide adjuvant treatment decisions. Physicians across Canada were surveyed to explore current practice patterns and perceived barriers to the use of Ki-67 in practice.
Methods: Physicians were invited to participate in an anonymous survey and were eligible if they prescribed systemic therapy for breast cancer in Canada.

Background: Research comparing artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) methods with classical statistical methods applied to large population health databases is limited.
Objectives: This retrospective cohort study aimed to compare the predictive performance of AI/ML algorithms against conventional multivariate logistic regression models using linked health administrative data.
Methods: Using Ontario's population health databases, we created a cohort of residents of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, who underwent a PCR test for COVID-19 between March 10, 2020, and May 13, 2021.

Background Context: Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) is the most common cause of acquired nontraumatic spinal cord injury worldwide. Surgery is a common treatment for DCM; however, outcomes often vary across patients.
Purpose: To inform preoperative education and counseling, we performed a responder analysis to identify factors associated with treatment response.

Background: Both HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection increase the risk of hepatic steatosis (HS), which in turn contributes to the severity and progression of liver disease. Direct acting antivirals (DAAs) can cure HCV but whether they reduce HS is unclear.
Methods: HS was assessed using the controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) and the hepatic steatosis index (HSI) in participants coinfected with HIV-HCV from the Canadian Coinfection Cohort.

Introduction: There are many limitations to utilizing on-duty emergency department (ED) physicians as Base Hospital Physicians for paramedic telephone consultations. We aimed to examine the impact of a specialized and centralized Online Medical Consultation program for paramedic consultations on system-relevant performance.
Methods: This is a before-after study with concurrent control using health record review of audio recordings over a 6-month period before and after implementation of the Online Medical Consultation program.

In Canada, vaccine safety studies are often conducted at the provincial/territorial level where the primary data on vaccination reside. Combining health services data from multiple jurisdictions using a pooled data analytic approach would reduce the amount of time needed to detect vaccine safety signals. To determine the difference in the time it would take to identify safety signals using different proportions of the Canadian population, we conducted power and sample size calculations for a hypothetical self-controlled case series-based surveillance analysis.

Cross-sectional area (CSA) is a fundamental variable in characterizing muscle mechanical properties. Typically, the CSA of a single muscle fibre is assessed by measuring either one or two diameters, and assuming the cross-section is either circular or elliptical in shape. However, fibre cross-sections have irregular shapes.

Primary mitochondrial diseases (PMDs) are among the most common inherited neurological disorders. They are caused by pathogenic variants in mitochondrial or nuclear DNA that disrupt mitochondrial structure and/or function, leading to impaired oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). One emerging subcategory of PMDs involves defective phospholipid (PL) metabolism.

Background: Through their expertise and diverse skills, Parkinson Nurses are key care providers for people with Parkinson's disease. They are seen as an important profession for person-centered and multidisciplinary care, considered priorities in Parkinson's care delivery. Currently, however, little is known about the priorities that this profession itself defines for the care of Parkinson's patients and how they perceive their own role in the care process.
