Some patients with autism and severe intellectual disability may experience uncontrolled aggression, causing serious injury or harm to others, and the therapeutic ineffectiveness of traditional pharmacological and behavioral treatment may aggravate symptoms. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been tested in patients with little evidence in children and adolescents. Therefore, we analyzed the efficacy and safety of DBS in refractory aggression in pediatric subjects with autism (ASD) and severe intelligence deficit (ID).

In this case report, we discuss a rare incident of avulsion-type renal injury in a 24-year-old male with no significant medical history. The injury occurred during a traffic accident, where he was involved in a direct impact collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle, leading to altered corticomedullary differentiation in the right kidney, a retroperitoneal hematoma, and free fluid in the cavity. The patient underwent successful emergency abdominal surgery, which involved the removal of the damaged kidney due to the severity of the injury.

Introduction: Carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacilli are a worldwide concern because of high morbidity and mortality rates. Additionally, the increasing prevalence of these bacteria is dangerous. To investigate the extent of antimicrobial resistance and prioritize the utility of novel drugs, we evaluated the molecular characteristics and antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii in Ecuador in 2022.

Coronavirus adult respiratory distress syndrome, characterized by decreased surfactant due to lysis of type II pneumocytes and hyaline membrane formation, contributes to severe hypoxemia. The administration of surfactant via high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) may positively affect lung structure and function in this context. In this study, we report on five clinical cases, encompassing patients aged 40-60 years of both sexes, who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 via real-time polymerase chain reaction and exhibited significant pulmonary compromise with elevated inflammatory biomarkers.

Background: Phosgene is a chemical used in the manufacture of plastics and pesticides. Phosgene remains one of the most dangerous of today's high-volume chemicals, as evidenced by the deaths and widespread evacuations caused by its release in industrial accidents. The respiratory system is most severely harmed by exposure to phosgene.

Rare developmental anomalies known as urachal remnants are brought on by flaws in the foetal developmental process. However, depending on the location and degree of incomplete obliteration, the urachus can undergo a variety of urachal anomalies. An umbilical fistulogram and a voiding cystourethrogram both supported the existence of the adult urachal cyst in this case.

Context: The diagnosis of giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is difficult in small biopsies with unusual age of presentation, location, and extensive secondary changes. Most of the GCTBs harbor H3F3A G34W mutations with a subset of cases showing alternate G34V, G34R, and G34L mutations.
Objectives: To analyze the expression of anti-histone H3.

Background: In COVID-19, the respiratory tract is usually affected by SARS-CoV-2 infection. Due to viral transmission in the blood and an overwhelming inflammatory response, including cytokine storm, the condition can progress to acute respiratory distress syndrome and failure. Methylene blue is the only medicine that has been shown to reduce the excessive generation of reactive species and cytokines.

During March and April 2020, Ecuador was the country with the highest death toll in Latin America due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Simultaneously, research was being developed and published globally, and to a certain extent, guided therapeutic approaches in real time, mostly in under-resourced settings. We present the case of a 59-year-old male physician residing in Guayaquil, who presented with severe coronavirus disease 2019, in which mechanical ventilation, prone position, and pulmonary protective ventilatory strategy were used.
