For non-hibernating species within temperate climates, survival during severe winter weather often depends on individuals' behavioral response and available refugia. Identifying refugia habitat that sustains populations during adverse winter conditions can be difficult and complex. This study provides an example of how modeled, biologically relevant snow and weather information can help identify important relationships between habitat selection and dynamic winter landscapes using greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus, hereafter "sage-grouse") as a model species.

Objective: The paper aims to address the problem of massive unlabeled patients in electronic health records (EHR) who potentially have undiagnosed diabetic retinopathy (DR). It is desired to estimate the actual DR prevalence in EHR with 96 % missing labels.
Materials And Methods: The Cerner Health Facts data are used in the study, with 3749 labeled DR patients and 97,876 unlabeled diabetic patients.

Mate limitation in small populations can reduce reproductive fitness, hinder population growth, and increase extinction risk. Mate limitation is exacerbated in self-incompatible (SI) taxa, where shared S-alleles further restrict mating. Theory suggests genetic drift as a predictor of mate limitation and the breakdown of SI systems.

The high incidence and mortality rates of colorectal cancer (CRC) in Alabama African Americans (AAs) and Oklahoma American Indians (AIs) are recognized as cancer disparities, yet the underlying causes have been poorly demonstrated. By evaluating CRC whole-exome sequencing and mutational profiles, here we report sets of mutated genes whose frequencies differed significantly (p < 0.05) in a race-specific manner.

Background: The efficacy of catheter ablation as a treatment approach for patients with concurrent atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) has been inadequately investigated.
Objective: This study's objective was to assess the effectiveness of atrial fibrillation ablation (AFA) in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
Methods: Utilizing the TriNetX research network, we identified individuals aged 18 and older with atrial fibrillation (AF) and concurrent heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) from January 1, 2010, to June 1, 2021.

Evaluation of the hydrogen storage capacity of porous rocks is crucial for underground hydrogen storage. Using H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, we successfully characterized the hydrogen responses and identified storage mechanisms in Berea sandstone under varying water saturation. The results indicate that the injected hydrogen behaves as a free gas phase and is capable of occupying the empty pore volume regardless of the saturation state.

Treatment with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and testosterone (T2) and their combination have been observed to be influential on ovarian follicles of 1-day-old mice ovaries cultured for 8 days. Given that extension of the culture period could positively impact the development of follicles in cultured ovaries, the present study was conducted to evaluate the main and interaction effects of FSH by T2 on the development of ovarian follicles in 1-day-old mice ovaries cultured for 12 days. One-day-old mice ovaries were initially cultured with base medium for 4 days; thereafter, different hormonal treatments were added to the culture media, and the culture was continued for 8 additional days until day 12.

Introduction: Despite the established effectiveness and relatively widespread availability of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder, individuals seeking treatment frequently encounter various structural and social barriers, including costs of treatment. This study aimed to understand the financial barriers that affect treatment continuation in individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD).
Methods: In this qualitative study, seven semi-structured in-depth focus group interviews were conducted among 28 participants in treatment for OUD.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is the primary pathogenic factor in Gram-negative sepsis. While the presence of LPS in the bloodstream during infection is associated with disseminated intravascular coagulation, the mechanistic link between LPS and blood coagulation activation remains ill-defined. The contact pathway of coagulation-a series of biochemical reactions that initiates blood clotting when plasma factors XII (FXII) and XI (FXI), prekallikrein (PK) and high molecular weight kininogen (HK) interact with anionic surfaces-has been shown to be activated in Gram-negative septic patients.

Due to increasing global demand for fresh water, it is increasingly necessary to understand how aquifer pumping affects groundwater chemistry. However, comprehensive predictive relationships between pumping and groundwater quality have yet to be developed, as the available data, which are often collected over inconsistent time intervals, are poorly suited for long-term historical correlation studies. For example, we needed an adequate statistical method to better understand relationships between pumping rate and water quality in the City of Norman (OK, USA).

Here, hybrid stimuli-responsive (exhibiting pyroelectricity and piezoelectricity) porous cryogels are engineered by embedding tourmaline nanoparticles (TNs) in a cellulose nanofiber (CNF) skeleton to generate high-performance CNF-TN-based airborne particulate matter (PM) filters. First, single-layer hybrid cryogels with varying TN contents (0-5% w v) are assembled, and the design principles for multilayered filters are established based on a novel sequential pre-freezing and freeze-drying technique. As observed, the embedded TNs transformed the CNF network into a more homogeneous, isotropic, and firm structure, thus improving the structural integrity and thermal stability of the assembled cryogels while maintaining their ultrahigh porosity and low density.

Histoplasmosis poses a significant risk to HIV patients, particularly in regions with limited access to antiretroviral therapy. Antigen detection assays are crucial in these settings for timely diagnosis and treatment, which can reduce mortality. While commercial antigen detection kits have performed well in diagnosing histoplasmosis, their effectiveness in monitoring treatment remains unclear.

Background: We evaluated the efficacy and safety of Ensifentrine in COPD via a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
Methods: We performed a detailed literature search on Medline (via PubMed), Scopus, Google Scholar, and Cochrane on the basis of pre-specified eligibility criteria. We used Review Manager to calculate pooled mean differences (MD) and 95% Confidence Interval (CI) using a random effects model.
This randomized phase III trial aimed to determine whether treatment with cisplatin and volume-directed radiation followed by carboplatin and paclitaxel for four cycles (chemoradiotherapy [C-RT]) increased recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) when compared with carboplatin and paclitaxel for six cycles (chemotherapy [CT]) in locally advanced endometrial cancer (UC). Previously reported results showed that C-RT did not improve RFS compared with CT. Here we report the final OS analysis.
