Increasing evidence supports the anti-inflammatory role of estrogens in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), originating from the observation of reduction in relapse rates among women with MS during pregnancy, but the molecular mechanisms are still not completely understood. Using an integrative data analysis, we identified T helper (Th) 17 and T regulatory (Treg) cell-type-specific regulatory regions (CSR) regulated by estrogen receptor alpha (ERα). These CSRs were validated in polarized Th17 from healthy donors (HD) and in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, Th17 and Treg cells from relapsing remitting (RR) MS patients and HD during pregnancy.

Exposure-Response Analysis of Micafungin in Neonatal Candidiasis: Pooled Analysis of Two Clinical Trials.

Pediatr Infect Dis J

June 2018

From the Global Development, Antimicrobial Pharmacodynamics and Therapeutics, Department of Molecular and Clinical Pharmacology, Institute of Translational Medicine, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Background: Neonatal candidiasis causes significant morbidity and mortality in high risk infants. The micafungin dosage regimen of 10 mg/kg established for the treatment of neonatal candidiasis is based on a laboratory animal model of neonatal hematogenous Candida meningoencephalitis and pharmacokinetic (PK)-pharmacodynamic (PD) bridging studies. However, little is known about the how these PK-PD data translate clinically.

Background: Amphotericin B deoxycholate (AmB-D) is standard of care treatment for neonatal invasive candidiasis (IC). Micafungin (MCA) has broad-spectrum fungicidal activity against Candida spp. We compared the efficacy and safety of intravenous MCA with intravenous AmB-D and assessed the pharmacokinetics of MCA in infants >2-120 days of age with proven IC in a phase 3, randomized, double-blind, multicenter, parallel-group, noninferiority study (NCT00815516).

Aim: The aim of the study was to estimate the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis infection, risk factors and best predictors of infection in young sexually active women in north-west of Italy.

Methods: One thousand one hundred and eighty 18-24 years old women of family planning clinics and three STI Clinics over Turin city area underwent vaginal swabs to detect infection and completed a questionnaire. Logistic regression and multivariate analysis identified risk factors and a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the model accuracy.
