Among the most cited barriers to buprenorphine prescribing is stigma, yet little progress has been made in developing successful strategies to reduce stigma and increase access to life-saving medication. Somatic Y537S and D538G mutations within the estrogen receptor alpha ligand-binding domain (ERα-LBD) have been linked to enhanced cell proliferation, survival, and metastases in ER-positive breast cancers. Such mutations are thought to confer ligand-independent receptor activation by increasing the flexibility of helix 12 (H12), a segment within the ERα-LBD that acts as a dynamic regulator of ERα activity. We employed bipartite tetracysteine display coupled with the biarsenical profluorophore FlAsH-EDT to monitor ligand-independent structural transitions of H12 in ERα-LBDs that include Y537S or D538G mutations.

High-quality two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDs), such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS), have significant potential for advanced electrical and optoelectronic applications. This study introduces a novel approach to control the localized growth of MoS through the selective oxidation of bulk molybdenum patterns using Joule heating, followed by sulfurization. By passing an electric current through molybdenum patterns under ambient conditions, localized heating induced the formation of a molybdenum oxide layer, primarily MoO and MoO, depending on the applied power and heating duration.

Recent widespread reductions in body size across species have been linked to increasing temperatures; simultaneous increases in wing length relative to body size have been broadly observed but remain unexplained. Size and shape may change independently of one another, or these morphological shifts may be linked, with body size mediating or directly driving the degree to which shape changes. Using hierarchical Bayesian models and a morphological time series of 27 366 specimens from five North American migratory passerine bird species, we tested the roles that climate and body size have played in shifting wing length allometry over four decades.

Environmental temperature impacts the physiological processes of reptiles, determines their hours of activity per day, and may constrain their ability to meet critical ecological requirements. When environmental temperatures reach freezing, a few lizard species exhibit two mechanisms (supercooling and freezing tolerance) to survive freezing, and these two processes depend on cryoprotective molecules, such as glucose. Organisms produce high glucose concentrations to reach lower than normal crystallisation points, and this blood glucose concentration can double after freezing.

This study aimed to assess diabetes health information found on TikTok and quantify misinformation on TikTok. The authors assessed 171 videos through two health literacy tools, DISCERN and the Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool for Audiovisual Materials, to rate the understandability and actionability of online medical content. The findings from this study encourage health care professionals to use social media platforms to provide factual information about diabetes and advise online health care consumers to use reputable sources such as trusted diabetes organizations' social media accounts, which tend to validate content with clinicians.

This survey sought to examine disparities in diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) to illuminate gaps underlying morbidity and mortality disparities experienced by blind people with diabetes and develop a pathway for improved health care delivery and health outcomes. Blind participants were more likely to report getting DSMES on strategies to promote treatment adherence and noncompliance with medical regimen; yet, blind and nonblind participants did not differ on primary care provider visits or amount of time spent in diabetes education. These findings suggest that DSMES content may differ for blind versus nonblind participants.

Climate warming can induce a cost-of-living "squeeze" in ectotherms by increasing energetic expenditures while reducing foraging gains. We used biophysical models (validated by 2685 field observations) to test this hypothesis for 10 ecologically diverse lizards in African and Australian deserts. Historical warming (1950-2020) has been more intense in Africa than in Australia, translating to an energetic squeeze for African diurnal species.
