After the United States Civil War, during Reconstruction, Southern states targeted Black youth and men for incarceration and forced labor, often charging them with rape, spawning the Black male rapist myth. This study explores evidence of a Reconstruction-era ethos in present-day treatment of youth of color accused of sexual assault. Methods: The study consisted of six stages: preparation of femur from a healthy dog cadaver; digitalization of the bone through a 3D scanner and creation of the base model; creation of a 3D AMDFD based on the image of the base model, 3D modeling carried out to reproduce five different types of diaphyseal fractures; printing the models produced on a 3D printer with a thermoplastic material; insertion of neodymium magnets in the fracture line to allow the assembly and disassembly of the parts; and radiography of 3D AMDFD in lateromedial and craniocaudal positions.
Results: The base model and 3D AMDFD had high precision in the replication of bone structures, like the bone in natura.

All target components were completely separated in a C18 column with isocratic elution of 5% acetonitrile solution containing 8 mM HClO4 and 0.20 mM 1-octanesulfonic acid as an ion pairing reagent.

A recurring challenge in extracting energy from ambient motion is that devices must maintain high harvesting efficiency and a positive user experience when the interface is undergoing dynamic compression. We show that small amphiphiles can be used to tune friction, haptics, and triboelectric properties by assembling into specific conformations on the surfaces of materials. Molecules that form multiple slip planes under pressure, especially through π-π stacking, produce 80 to 90% lower friction than those that form disordered mesostructures.

Children with neurodegenerative disease often have debilitating gastrointestinal symptoms. We hypothesized that this may be due at least in part to underappreciated degeneration of neurons in the enteric nervous system (ENS), the master regulator of bowel function. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is one of the most lethal complications of diabetes and is induced by the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cardiomyocytes due to sustained high glucose levels, leading to cardiac oxidative damage and final sudden death. Drugs and antioxidants currently applied to the clinical therapy of DCM fail to scavenge ROS efficiently, resulting in compromised therapeutic efficacy. Herein, a nanocatalytic antioxidative therapeutic strategy is proposed for DCM treatment.

The Munc13/UNC-13 family protein Ync13 is essential for septum integrity and cytokinesis in fission yeast. To further explore the mechanism of Ync13 functions, spontaneous suppressors of mutants, which can suppress the colony-formation defects and lysis phenotype of mutant cells, are isolated and characterized. Failures in endodontic treatments are common due to microbial resistance in the pulp canal. The study evaluated the in vitro activity of polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride (PHMGH) against endodontic strains, as well as in vivo toxicity. Using minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration techniques, PHMGH was effective against all microorganisms, even at low concentrations.

Introduction: Many interventional strategies are commonly used to treat chronic low back pain (CLBP), though few are specifically intended to target the distinct underlying pathomechanisms causing low back pain. We explore the diagnostic potential of automated linguistic analysis of natural spontaneous speech to differentiate MSA and PD.
Methods: Spontaneous speech of 39 participants with MSA compared to 39 drug-naive PD and 39 healthy controls matched for age and sex was transcribed and linguistically annotated using automatic speech recognition and natural language processing.

Cardiac computed tomography angiography (CTA) is a valuable tool in the assessment of congenital and acquired cardiac disease in children. The goal of cardiac CTA is to produce images that are free of motion and provide sufficient characterization of the anatomy in question. Given the complexity of pediatric patient characteristics, including patient size, heart rate, breath-holding capability, and variant anatomy, cardiac CTA technique must be individualized to the patient as well as the indication to answer the clinical question while also minimizing radiation exposure.

Establishing optimized metal-support interaction (MSI) between active sites and the substrate is essential for modulating the adsorption properties of key reaction intermediates during catalysis, thereby enhancing the catalytic performance. In this study, catalyst composites with varying degrees of MSI are constructed using ruthenium (Ru) and different carbon nanotubes, and their performance for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is systematically investigated. Detailed kinetic assessments reveal that catalysts with a strong MSI exhibit superior HER activity.
