J Adv Vet Anim Res

December 2018

Department of Animal Disease and Veterinary Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Nusa Cendana University, Kupang, Indonesia.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to detect the incidence of multi-drug resistant (MDR) and the spread of genes that encode tetracycline (TE) resistance in in pig farms in the city of Kupang, Indonesia.

Materials And Methods: Samples of pig feces have been obtained from 96 pig farms in Kupang city, Indonesia. bacteria were isolated and identified morphologically and biochemically, and finally confirmed by the API test.

Background: Malaria causes a reduction in haemoglobin that is compounded by primaquine, particularly in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency. The aim of this study was to determine the relative contributions to red cell loss of malaria and primaquine in patients with uncomplicated Plasmodium vivax.

Methods: A systematic review identified P.

Stunting is not a synonym of malnutrition.

Eur J Clin Nutr

March 2020

Indonesian Pediatric Society, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Background: WHO documents characterize stunting as, "…impaired growth and development that children experience from poor nutrition, repeated infection, and inadequate psychosocial stimulation." The equation of stunting with malnutrition is common. This contrasts with historic and modern observations indicating that growth in height is largely independent of the extent and nature of the diet.

Energy Transfer-Assisted Whispering Gallery Mode Lasing in Conjugated Polymer/Europium Hybrid Microsphere Resonators.

Chem Asian J

May 2019

Division of Materials Science, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, University of Tsukuba, 1-1-1 Tennodai, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, 305-8573, Japan.

Lanthanide metal complexes display luminescence with narrow bandwidth. Here, we present coupling of the luminescence from europium ion (Eu ) with whispering gallery modes (WGMs) in conjugated polymer microsphere resonators. Self-assembly of fluorene-terpyridine alternating copolymer, coordinated by Eu (F8tpy-Eu ), forms well-defined microspheres with an average diameter of 3.

Global Health Division, Menzies School of Health Research and Charles Darwin University, Darwin, NT, Australia; WorldWide Antimalarial Resistance Network, Clinical module, Darwin, NT, Australia; Centre for Tropical Medicine, Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford, Oxford, UK. Electronic address:

Background: Chloroquine remains the mainstay of treatment for Plasmodium vivax malaria despite increasing reports of treatment failure. We did a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the effect of chloroquine dose and the addition of primaquine on the risk of recurrent vivax malaria across different settings.

Methods: A systematic review done in MEDLINE, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews identified P vivax clinical trials published between Jan 1, 2000, and March 22, 2017.

This study aimed to explore perceived determinants of condom use behaviors among male clients of female commercial sex workers (FCSWs) in Belu and Malaka districts, Indonesia. One-on-one in-depth interviews guided by the Health Belief Model (HBM) were used to collect the data from participants ( n = 42). The Framework analysis for qualitative data was employed to analyze the data.

Phosphorus removal from secondary sewage and septage using sand media amended with biochar in constructed wetland mesocosms.

Sci Total Environ

November 2016

Griffith School of Engineering, Griffith University, Nathan, Brisbane, Australia. Electronic address:

To improve the performance efficiency of subsurface constructed wetlands (CWs), a variety of media have been tested. Recently, there has been a rising interest in biochar. This research aims to develop the effectiveness of sand media amended with biochar and two plants species (Melaleuca quinquenervia and Cymbopogon citratus) in removing phosphorus from sewage effluent in CWs.

The effect of Wolbachia on dengue outbreaks when dengue is repeatedly introduced.

Theor Popul Biol

October 2016

National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, The Australian National University, Canberra, Australia. Electronic address:

Use of the Wolbachia bacterium is a proposed new strategy to reduce dengue transmission, which results in around 390 million individuals infected annually. In places with strong variations in climatic conditions such as temperature and rainfall, dengue epidemics generally occur only at a certain time of the year. Where dengue is not endemic, the time of year in which imported cases enter the population plays a crucial role in determining the likelihood of outbreak occurrence.

Pathogenesis of New Strains of Newcastle Disease Virus From Israel and Pakistan.

Vet Pathol

July 2016

Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory, Agricultural Research Service, US Department of Agriculture, Athens, GA, USA Current address: Department of Pathobiology, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, Guelph, Canada

In the past few years, Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strains with epizootic characteristics belonging to subgenotypes VIIi and XIIIb emerged in the Middle East and Asia. In this study, 2 NDV strains-1 representative of subgenotype VIIi isolated in Israel (Kvuzat/13) and 1 representative of subgenotype XIIIb isolated in Pakistan (Karachi/07)-were characterized by intracerebral pathogenicity index and detailed clinicopathologic assessment. The intracerebral pathogenicity index values for Kvuzat/13 and Karachi/07 were 1.

Constructed wetland ecotechnologies (CWEs) are a promising solution to effectively treat domestic wastewater in developing countries at low cost. This paper reports the findings of the effectiveness of sand media amended with woody biochar and two plants species (Melaleuca quinquenervia and Cymbopogon citratus) in removing biological oxygen demand (BOD5), suspended solids and coliforms. The experimental design consisted of 21 vertical flow (VF) mesocosms.

Here we describe the gross and microscopic findings of naturally occurring, β-hemolytic Escherichia coli peritonitis in B6.129-Myd88(tm1Aki) male and female mice. Over approximately 5 mo, 10 homozygous mutant mice deficient in myeloid differentiation factor 88 (C57BL/6 strain; male and female) that had not been used in research protocols developed rapid-onset abdominal swelling associated with copious viscous ascites.
