Facilitators and barriers of accessing community health services for children in the early years: An Australian qualitative study.

Introduction: Foundations for health are set in the first years of life, however many children in Australia do not attain optimal development due to inequitable access to specialist care through impacting social determinants of health. There is a research gap in evidence for sustaining early years services that address these barriers. This study aimed to understand experiences and priorities of parents/carers and service providers around access to specialist early years health services in low socioeconomic areas of Armadale, Western Australia.

Impacts of Ethical Dilemmas and Moral Distress in Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurses.

Purpose: To assess the level of moral distress (MD) and perceptions of ethical climate among pediatric hematology/oncology (PHO) nurses and to identify bioethics topics where increased education was desired.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we administered the 26-item Swedish Moral Distress Scale-Revised (sMDS-R), specifically revised and validated for pediatric oncology, in conjunction with the Clinical Ethics Needs Assessment Survey (CENAS). Electronic surveys were sent to inpatient and outpatient PHO nurses.

Background: Healthcare resources have been concentrated in urban areas, leaving rural regions vulnerable to poorer health outcomes. The Problem Solving for Better Health (PSBH) program was implemented to enhance healthcare systems in resource-limited regions by training personnel to maximize existing resources in problem-solving. This study evaluated the implementation effectiveness of PSBH-Nursing (PSBHN), a nationally led initiative to train nurses in PSBH in Lesotho.

Methods: Data was collected using a constructivist qualitative research design.

The factors influencing self-management in patients with depression: a qualitative research from China.

Background: As depressed patients often fail to seek help and obtain treatment on time for reasons such as stigma and lack of treatment resources, research on self-management for depressed patients is crucial. This study aimed to explore the factors influencing self-management in depression patients from the perspectives of both patients and psychiatric nurses.

Methods: Six depression patients and twelve psychiatric nurses were chosen for semi-structured interviews through a purposive sampling method from a tertiary Grade A psychiatric hospital in Shandong Province, China.

Effectiveness of the Interdisciplinary Home-bAsed Reablement Programme (I-HARP) on improving functional independence of people living with dementia: a multicentre, pragmatic, randomised, open-label, controlled trial.

Background: We investigated the effectiveness of an Interdisciplinary Home-bAsed Reablement Programme (I-HARP) on improving functional independence, health and well-being of people with dementia, family carer outcomes and costs.

Method: A multicentre pragmatic parallel-arm randomised controlled trial compared I-HARP to usual care in community-dwelling people with mild to moderate dementia and their family carers in Sydney, Australia (2018-2022). I-HARP is a 4-month, home-based, dementia rehabilitation model delivered by an interdisciplinary team.

Development and psychometric evaluation of a self-management ability assessment scale for individuals with spinal cord injury.

Objective: The objective of this study was to develop a scale to assess the self-management capability of patients with spinal cord injuries and provide an evaluation tool for implementing targeted interventions.

Methods: Drawing upon the Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change (ITHBC) and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) framework, an initial version of the Spinal Cord Injury Patient Self-Management Capability Assessment Scale was developed through literature analysis, semi-structured interviews, and expert inquiry using the Delphi method. Subsequently, two rounds of inquiries were conducted with a panel of 20 experts to refine items in the scale based on the feedback obtained.

Attitudes and digital health literacy mediate the relationship of digital information accessibility with intention for digital healthcare service use in patients with multiple myeloma: A cross-sectional study.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the serial mediating effects of attitudes toward digital healthcare services (ATDH) and digital health literacy (DHL) on the relationship between accessibility of digital information (ADI) and intention to use digital healthcare services (IUDH) among patients with multiple myeloma (MM).

Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey was conducted with patients with MM under outpatient follow-up at the cancer center of a university-affiliated hospital in South Korea. Data were collected between September and December 2023 from a convenience sample of 139 patients.

The Complete Inpatient Record Using Comprehensive Electronic Data (CIRCE) project: A team-based approach to clinically validated, research-ready electronic health record data.

Introduction: The rapid adoption of electronic health record (EHR) systems has resulted in extensive archives of data relevant to clinical research, hospital operations, and the development of learning health systems. However, EHR data are not frequently available, cleaned, standardized, validated, and ready for use by stakeholders. We describe an in-progress effort to overcome these challenges with cooperative, systematic data extraction and validation.

Background: Cerebral palsy affects children's movement and posture because of damage to the brain's development. Care assistants in healthcare facilities provide care to children. Caring for the children is overwhelming, hence support is required.

Inequity in Washington state covid-19-related crowdfunding.

The first seven months of the US COVID-19 pandemic saw a massive increase in COVID-19-related crowdfunding campaigns. Despite their popularity, these campaigns were rarely successful in reaching their monetary goals, with nearly 40% of them not receiving a single donation. Previous research has indicated that crowdfunding has increased inequities and disparities in wealth, and this study set out to examine the situation in Washington State, an area greatly divided socio-economically, culturally, and geographically.

Perceptions of community healthcare workers on the use of teledentistry for seniors in Singapore: A qualitative study.

Objective: This study aimed to identify barriers and facilitators surrounding the implementation of TDOCS from Community Health Workers (CHW)'s perspective before TDOCS implementation.

Methods: A descriptive qualitative study was conducted through semistructured interviews with a purposive sampling of CHWs from partner nursing homes and home care teams. A French framework outlining barriers to asynchronous oral teleconsultation adoption was used to develop the topic guide for this study.

Growth of the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly and the role of for-profit programs.

The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a managed care program financed by capitated government payments that primarily serves adults aged 55 or older requiring nursing home level of care who are dual-eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. While PACE programs have historically been nonprofit entities, in 2016, a regulation change allowed for-profit PACE programs to help expand the program. We describe PACE program growth from 2010 to 2022.

Entry-to-Practice Rehabilitation Competencies and the Rehabilitation Competency Framework: A Gap Analysis.

Objectives: To systematically map the entry-level competencies of rehabilitation professions to the World Health Organization's Rehabilitation Competency Framework (RCF) to identify overlapping commonalities and gaps across available rehabilitation frameworks.

Design: The competence frameworks of audiology, occupational therapy, physical and rehabilitation medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, prosthetics and orthotics, rehabilitation nursing, and speech and language therapy were researched online. In cases where international standards or competencies were unavailable online, expert colleagues in the related field were consulted to confirm the absence of an international document.

Uncertainty experienced by the critical patient upon discharge to the general ward: Care proposals from the perspective of Mishel's theory.

Background: The process of discharging the critical patient to the ward (discharge from critical care to the general ward-DCCW) is often described as an experience involving uncertainty which may affect the patient's quality of life and ability to cope. Coping with uncertainty is an individual response not related to the course of the illness that is dependent on external and internal resources and the ability to utilize them. Mishel's theory of uncertainty identifies aspects of care that can shape the experience of uncertainty associated with the illness.

The Potential of Poetry in Mental Health Nurse Pre-registration Education.

This paper examines the potential of poetry as a resource within mental health nurse pre-registration education. There has long been a debate as to whether the art or the science of nursing should be foregrounded within pre-registration education, especially in the UK within recent years as the latest Nursing and Midwifery Council's standards of pre-registration education appear to have shifted the focus towards the acquisition of skills, giving less consideration to the holistic transformatory process of education. The paper uses the conceptualisation of education by Beista, who proposes that education can be considered in relation to the three domains of qualification, socialisation and subjectification.

Educational Challenges for Post-Graduate Nursing Students Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Scoping Review.

The COVID-19 pandemic had immediate impact on nursing students enrolled in postgraduate and post-registration nursing courses. Some students were required to undertake additional clinical hours and place their studies on hold, while others had clinical experiences and face-to-face classes suspended, with online learning modes quickly mobilized. While there have been many reports on the impact and experience of these changes on undergraduate students, limited reports have focused on challenges for nursing students who were registered for practice following completion of their undergraduate studies, and were enrolled in higher degree, postgraduate education programs.

Early Intervention for Children With Developmental Disabilities and Their Families via Telehealth: Systematic Review.

Background: Early intervention during the first 3 years of life is crucial for children with developmental disabilities to optimize developmental outcomes. However, access to such services is often limited by geographical distance and resource constraints. Telehealth can be part of a solution for overcoming these barriers, enabling the delivery of early intervention services.

Turning nursing students' mistakes into resources for learning in simulation-based training: facilitators' assumptions about providing feedback in debriefing.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate how facilitators approach and use nursing students' mistakes in simulation-based training as learning resources in the simulation debriefing phase. Facilitators are responsible for raising students' awareness of their performances during the debriefing and facilitating reflections on their performances, including satisfactory behaviours and performance gaps. Research on facilitators' work during debriefing has highlighted various challenges, such as providing a safe and constructive climate among novice students while simultaneously teaching them the correct procedures, methods, and knowledge of caring practices to become professional nurses.

Examining the impact of psychosocial safety climate on working conditions, well-being and safety of healthcare providers: a scoping review.

Background: In contemporary healthcare systems, the well-being and safety of healthcare providers are pivotal for sustaining a resilient healthcare system. The concept of Psychosocial Safety Climate (PSC) emerges as a crucial framework influencing job design and employee perceptions in organisational settings, although its application within healthcare settings remains relatively underexplored. The aim of this review was to explore the buffering effect of PSC and its impact on working conditions, well-being and performance.
