Background: Despite the recommendation of coronary physiology to guide revascularization in angiographically intermediate stenoses without established correlation to ischemia, its uptake in clinical practice is slow.
Aims: This study aimed to analyze the use of coronary physiology in clinical practice.
Methods: Based on a multicenter registry (Fractional Flow Reserve Fax Registry, F(FR), ClinicalTrials.

Aims/hypothesis: We aimed to determine whether disease severity was reduced at onset of clinical (stage 3) type 1 diabetes in children previously diagnosed with presymptomatic type 1 diabetes in a population-based screening programme for islet autoantibodies.
Methods: Clinical data obtained at diagnosis of stage 3 type 1 diabetes were evaluated in 128 children previously diagnosed with presymptomatic early-stage type 1 diabetes between 2015 and 2022 in the Fr1da study and compared with data from 736 children diagnosed with incident type 1 diabetes between 2009 and 2018 at a similar age in the DiMelli study without prior screening.
Results: At the diagnosis of stage 3 type 1 diabetes, children with a prior early-stage diagnosis had lower median HbA (51 mmol/mol vs 91 mmol/mol [6.

Background: In this prospective safety study, we investigated if the characteristic cytokine expression during bone regeneration is manipulated by the local application of bone morphogenetic protein-7 (BMP-7) in non-union surgery. Therefore, the levels of insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), platelet-derived growth factor AB (PDGF-AB) and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) were compared between patients with the gold standard use of autologous bone graft (ABG) and those with additional application of BMP-7 as part of the diamond concept.
Patients And Methods: Between 2009 and 2014, of the 153 patients with tibial and femoral non-unions, a matched pair analysis was performed to compare the serological cytokine expressions.

Rituximab (RTX) has become a standard therapy for certain B cell malignancies and autoimmune diseases. We report 2 RTX-treated patients who developed severe tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) infection. The inability to generate new antibody responses renders RTX-treated patients susceptible to TBEV, impedes laboratory diagnosis, and necessitates preventive vaccination in endemic areas.

Introduction: A hypertrophic AIIS has been identified as a cause for extraarticular hip impingement and is classified according to Hetsroni using 3D-CT reconstructions. The role of the conventional AP pelvis X-ray, which is the first standard imaging step for the evaluation of hip pain, has not been investigated yet.
Materials And Methods: AP pelvis X-rays and 3D-CT reconstructions of patients were evaluated regarding their morphology of the AIIS.

Background/aim: To analyze ex vivo effects of combined targeting of the epidermal growth factor-receptor (EGFR) by cetuximab (E) plus αVβ3 and αVβ5 integrins by cilengitide (Cil) on colony formation of epithelial cells (CF) and release of pro-angiogenetic and pro-inflammatory cytokines in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cells.
Materials And Methods: Collagenase-IV digests of 43 histopathological confirmed HNSCC cases were seeded into laminin-coated 96-well plates containing E, Cil, or Cil+E in final concentrations of 66.7 μg/ml, 10 μM, and 10 μM+66.

Objectives: Although regular physical exercise clearly reduces cardiovascular morbidity risk, long-term endurance sports practice has been recognized as a risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the mechanisms how endurance sports can lead to AF are not yet clear. The aim of our present study was to investigate the influence of long-term endurance training on vagal tone, atrial size, and inflammatory profile in professional elite soccer players.

Background: Conventional water-free polymethylmethacrylate cements are not MRI visible due to the lack of free protons. A new MRI-visible bone cement was developed through the addition of a contrast agent and either a saline solution or a hydroxyapatite (Wichlas et al., 2010).
