Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) is crucial in regulating cell division and has been shown to have an oncogenic function in several cancers. Since PLK1 overexpression is closely related to tumorigenesis and has been correlated with poor clinical outcomes, specific inhibition of PLK1 in cancer cells is a promising approach for developing new anticancer drugs. In this context, the aim of the present study was to evaluated the potential cytotoxic effects of GSK461364A, a competitive inhibitor for PLK1, in gastric cancer cell line SNU-1 cells and explored its cytotoxic mechanism.

One of the rarest types of hereditary thrombocytopenia is the MYH9-related disorder. This spectrum of disorders is characterized by large platelets with or without leukocyte inclusion bodies, a decrease in the total number of platelets, and autosomal dominant inheritance. Proteinuric nephropathy that frequently progresses to end-stage renal failure, as well as the beginning of progressive high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss in young adults, is also associated with MYH9-related disorder.

Objective: Numerous mechanisms have been proposed for the no-reflow phenomenon (NRP) in the literature including leukocyte intravascular plugging, microembolisms, and extrinsic coagulation pathway activation. Some of the more recent studies suggested a relationship between NRP and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) in different contexts. To this end, the objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between NRP and SII in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) who underwent percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of saphenous vein graft (SVG).

Investigations are still ongoing about the pathophysiology of multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children, which can progress with serious morbidity and mortality after COVID-19 infection. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether fibroblast growth factor-2 and tumour necrosis factor alpha-stimulated gene-6 levels play a role in the diagnosis of the disease and on cardiac involvement. Twenty-three patients (11 girls, 12 boys) and 26 healthy controls (10 girls, 16 boys) were included in the study.

Purpose: The effects of the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT3) receptor antagonists on regional anaesthesia are complex and unclear. The present study was designed to test the hypothesis that granisetron, a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, would decrease the duration of motor block, sensory block, and proprioception in a dose-dependent fashion in a rat model of bupivacaine-induced sciatic nerve blockade.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-eight male Wistar Albino rats that received unilateral sciatic nerve blocks were randomly divided into five experimental groups.

Primary Hydatid Cyst of Lumbar Paravertebral Muscle.

Asian J Neurosurg

December 2022

Department of Neurosurgery, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Education and Research Hospital, University of Health Sciences, Istanbul, Turkiye.

Hydatid cyst disease as a zoonosis usually infests the liver and lungs, and it rarely affects muscles. Here, we presented a 36-year-old female patient with low back pain. Radiological evaluation revealed a soft tissue lesion located at the left paravertebral region without vertebral invasion.

Objective: A restricted-iodine diet (RID) increases the effectiveness of radioiodine therapy (RAIT) by decreasing the body's iodine pool, especially in iodine-rich regions. However, there is no consensus on the RID that should be applied in iodine-deficient areas. This study aims to assess the effect of strict and flexible RID before RAIT.

  • The study examines anatomical variations of the paracingulate sulcus in the brains of 149 healthy volunteers using MRI and cadaveric analysis, focusing on its importance in surgical approaches to brain lesions.
  • Three patterns of the paracingulate sulcus were identified: "prominent," "present," and "absent," with a tendency for the left hemisphere to be more prominent and the right to be more often absent.
  • The findings also reveal sex differences, showing a higher prevalence of the prominent paracingulate sulcus in males, while a larger number of females exhibited an absence of this structure.
