Cancer remains a significant global health concern, with increasing genetic and metabolic irregularities linked to its onset. Among various forms of cancer, skin cancer, including squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma, is on the rise worldwide, often triggered by ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The propensity of skin cancer to metastasize highlights the importance of early detection for successful treatment.

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a tick-borne zoonotic viral disease. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), which play an important role in the regulation of gene expression, are involved in many processes essential for cell life such as development, differentiation, survival, apoptosis and aging. If miRNAs fail to fulfill their functions, they cause susceptibility to many diseases, including viral infections or cause the disease to be experienced in different clinical situations, such as severe or mild.

Scalding burns are a common form of thermal injury that often leads to systemic complications. Pro-inflammatory cytokines like interleukin-6 (IL-6) and the activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) pathways have been linked to the pathophysiology of organ damage caused by burns. This study aimed to investigate the potential therapeutic effects of dexmedetomidine, an α2-adrenergic receptor agonist with anti-inflammatory properties, on the interplay of IL-6 and STAT3 pathways in adrenal gland damage following scalding burns in rats.

Background: Although there have been significant improvements in the treatment of heart failure (HF) in recent decades, its prognosis remains poor. Although there are many biomarkers that can help predict the prognosis of patients with HF, there is a need for simpler, cheaper, and more easily available biomarkers.

Objective: To evaluate the predictive value of pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) in patients with acute decompensated HF.

Background: In the current study, it was aimed to evaluate neurotrophic factor levels and their relationship with executive functions in high-risk children and adolescents (high-risk group) whose parents were diagnosed with bipolar disorder (BD) but not affected by any psychiatric disease, and in order to determine possible vulnerability factors related to the disease.

Methods: The study sample consisted of 32 high-risk group and 34 healthy controls. The Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children-Present and Lifetime Version-Turkish Adaptation (KSADS-PL-T), Stroop Test, Serial Digit Learning Test (SDLT) and Cancellation Test to evaluate executive functions were administered to all participants by the clinician.

: Lower limb skeletal muscle ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury is associated with increased morbidity and mortality, and it is common in several clinical situations such as aortic aneurysms repairment, peripheral arterial surgery, vascular injury repairment, and shock. Although it is generally accepted that oxidative stress mediators have a significant role in IR injury, its precise mechanism is still unknown. Anecdotally, it is sustained not only by structural and functional changes in the organ it affects but also by damage to distant organs.

Oxidative stress and inflammation caused by cisplatin, which is frequently used in the treatment of many cancers, damage healthy tissues as well as cancer cells. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and infliximab (INF) administration on pancreatic endocrine cells in rats treated with systemic cisplatin (CDDP). The rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: group 1 (control group), group 2 (EGCG group), group 3 (CDDP group), group 4 (EGCG + CDDP group), group 5 (CDDP + INF group), and group 6 (EGCG + CDDP + INF group).

Background: Various reconstructive options exist for distal finger and pulp defects, including grafting and local or distant flaps. In addition to reconstructing the normal anatomical structure, preserving the sensory function of the finger is crucial. This study presents the results of using bone grafting combined with a spiral flap (BGcSF) technique for reconstructing pulp defects accompanied by bone loss.

Comparison of body iodine pool assessment methods before radioiodine therapy.

Rev Esp Med Nucl Imagen Mol (Engl Ed)

March 2024

Ankara City Hospital, Department of Nuclear Medicine, Ankara, Turkey; Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University, Department of Nuclear Medicine, Ankara, Turkey.

Introduction And Objectives: Radioactive iodine therapy (RAIT) is recommended to reduce the risk of recurrence and metastasis in patients with intermediate-high risk differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). In preparation for RAIT, stimulation of thyroid-stimulating hormone and reduction of body iodine pool are important for treatment success. For this purpose, patients are asked to reduce their iodine intake before RAIT, and the body iodine pool can be evaluated by measuring iodine excretion in urine before treatment.

Introduction: Malign peritoneal mesothelioma (MPM) is an uncommon disease that is difficult to treat. Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS-HIPEC) are the gold standards for treating MPM. Sometimes extreme cytoreductive surgery (eCRS) is required to achieve complete cytoreduction, which is one of the most important prognostic factors.
