Erythroid cells, serving as progenitors and precursors to erythrocytes responsible for oxygen transport, were shown to exhibit an immunosuppressive and immunoregulatory phenotype. Previous investigations from our research group have revealed an antimicrobial gene expression profile within murine bone marrow erythroid cells which suggested a role for erythroid cells in innate immunity. In the present study, we focused on elucidating the characteristics of human bone marrow erythroid cells through comprehensive analyses, including NanoString gene expression profiling utilizing the Immune Response V2 panel, a BioPlex examination of chemokine and TGF-beta family proteins secretion, and analysis of publicly available single-cell RNA-seq data.

In order to obtain a long-lived charge separation (CS) state in compact electron donor-acceptor molecular systems, we prepared a series of naphthalenediimide (NDI)-phenothiazine (PTZ) triads, with phenylene as the linker between the donor and acceptor. Conformation restriction is imposed to control the mutual orientation of the NDI and PTZ units by attaching methyl groups on the phenylene linker to tune the electronic coupling between the donor and the acceptor. Moreover, the PTZ moiety was oxidized to sulfoxide to tune the ordering of the CS state and the LE state (LE: locally excited state).

A large series of 2-arylchromen-4-ones containing from 1 to 3 fluorine atoms or a trifluoromethyl group in the structure was synthesized by condensation of fluorinated 2-hydroxyacetophenones with benzaldehydes in an alkaline medium and subsequent oxidative cyclization of the resulting 2'-hydroxychalcones by action of I in DMSO. The cytotoxicity of the obtained compounds was studied in glioblastoma cell line, SNB19, and in a monkey-derived normal kidney epithelium cell line, Vero. In addition, antiglycation activity of the obtained compounds was evaluated.

Research into the hunting behavior in members of the Cricetidae family offers an opportunity to reveal what changes in the predatory behavioral sequences occur when a rodent species shifts from an omnivorous to a predatory lifestyle. The study tests the following hypotheses: are there phylogenetic differences in the divergence of species' predatory lifestyles in hamsters or do ecological factors lead to shaping their hunting behavior? We applied the data compression approach for performing comparative analysis of hunting patterns as biological "texts." The study presents a comparative analysis of hunting behaviors in five Cricetinae species, focusing on the new data obtained for the desert hamster Phodopus roborovskii whose behavior has never been studied before.

Being a low-toxic and hydrophilic representative of TAM, OX063 has shown its suitability for in-vivo and in-cell EPR experiments and design of spin labels. Using C labeling, we investigated the course of oxidative degradation of OX063 into quinone-methide (QM) under the influence of superoxide as well as further thiol-promoted reduction of QM into TAM radical, which formally corresponds to substitution of a carboxyl function by a hydroxyl group. We found these transformations being quantitative in model reactions mimicking specific features of biological media and confirmed the presence of these reactions in the blood and liver homogenate of mice in vitro.

Large signal enhancements can be obtained for NMR analytes using the process of nuclear spin hyperpolarization. Organometallic complexes that bind parahydrogen can themselves become hyperpolarized. Moreover, if parahydrogen and a to-be-hyperpolarized analyte undergo chemical exchange with the organometallic complex it is possible to catalytically sensitize the detection of the analyte via hyperpolarization transfer through spin-spin coupling in this organometallic complex.

Three NaBa(BO)F crystals were grown in the BaO-BaF-BO-NaO system from three different compositions of high-temperature solution. With the use of optical spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and the Schering bridge method it was found that the crystals revealed sharp differences in their optical and dielectric properties. The relative permittivity of the crystals in direction perpendicular to the optical axis reached 319(5).

Two principal growth regulators, cytokinins and ethylene, are known to interact in the regulation of plant growth. However, information about the underlying molecular mechanism and positional specificity of cytokinin/ethylene crosstalk in the control of root growth is scarce. We have identified the spatial specificity of cytokinin-regulated root elongation and root apical meristem (RAM) size, both of which we demonstrate to be dependent on ethylene biosynthesis.

Epigenetic cytosine methylation covers most of genomic CpG dinucleotides in human cells. In addition to common deamination-mediated mutagenesis at CpG sites, an alternative deamination-independent pathway associated with DNA polymerase activity was previously described. This mutagenesis is characterized by the TCG→TTG mutational signature and is believed to arise from dAMP misincorporation opposite 5-methylcytosine (mC) or its oxidized derivative 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (hmC) by B-family replicative DNA polymerases with disrupted proofreading 3→5'-exonuclease activity.

Entomopathogenic fungi may interact with insects' symbiotic bacteria during infection. We hypothesized that topical infection with Beauveria bassiana may alter the microbiota of the Colorado potato beetle (CPB) and that these modifications may alter the course of mycoses. We used a model with two concentrations of conidia: (1) high concentration that causes rapid (acute) pathogenesis with fast mortality followed by bacterial decomposition of insects; (2) lower concentration that leads to prolonged pathogenesis ending in conidiation on cadavers.

In the current work, the reaction of TiO with O giving rise to TiO in superoxide and peroxide states has been investigated with (CAS, CCSD) and DFT (B3LYP) calculations.
