The use of chitosan-based gels is still limited due to their restricted solubility in acid solutions, where the molecules have a positive charge. The functionalization of chitosan makes it possible to significantly expand the possibilities of using both the polymer itself and hydrogels based on its derivatives. To evaluate the effect of the conditions for the production of cryo- and hydrogels based on carboxyethylchitosan (CEC) crosslinked with glutaraldehyde on gel swelling and its resistance to degradation depending on pH and cytotoxic effects and to test the hypothesis that the amount of crosslinking agent during synthesis may affect the cytotoxicity of the gel.

While brain MRI plays a vital role in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment monitoring, accurately characterizing gliomas using conventional MRI techniques alone is challenging. In this study, we explored the potential of utilizing the amide proton transfer (APT) technique to predict tumor grade and type based on the WHO 2021 Classification of CNS Tumors.

A unique nanomaterial has been developed for sweat analysis, including glucose level monitoring. Simple resusable low-cost sensors from composite materials based on graphene, hexagonal boron nitride, and conductive PEDOT:PSS (poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)polystyrene sulfonate) polymer have been developed and fabricated 2D printing on flexible substrates. The sensors were tested as biosensors using different water-based solutions.

Prospective composites, based on graphene (G) and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanoparticles, synthesized using a plasma jet and conducting polymer PEDOT:PSS, were used to create and study a set of sensors in the current study. The composites used were G:PEDOT:PSS (GPP) and G:h-BN:PEDOT:PSS (GBNPP). The PEDOT:PSS content in the composites was 10 wt%, and the ratio of G : h-BN was 1 : 1 in GBNPP.

Orthotopic transplantation of glioblastoma cells in the brain of laboratory mice is a common animal model for studying brain tumors. It was shown that 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) enables monitoring of the tumor's occurrence and its development during therapy based on the ratio of several metabolites. However, in studying new approaches to the therapy of glioblastoma in the model of orthotopic xenotransplantation of glioma cells into the brain of mice, it is necessary to understand which metabolites are produced by a growing tumor and which are the result of tumor cells injection along the modeling of the pathology.

Background: Primary trigeminal neuralgia (PTN) is a prevalent chronic pain disorder whose pathogenesis is not limited to the trigeminal system. Despite the significant advances in uncovering underlying mechanisms, there is a paucity of comprehensive and consistent data regarding the role of white matter throughout the entire brain in PTN.
Methods: We performed a prospective case-control study.

The interaction of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) with biotargets is accompanied by chemical reactions on their surfaces and insides, and it has great potential as an anticancer approach. This study discovers the molecular mechanisms that may explain the selective death of tumor cells under CAP exposure. To reach this goal, the transcriptional response to CAP treatment was analyzed in A549 lung adenocarcinoma cells and in lung-fibroblast Wi-38 cells.

We developed the theory of elastic electron tunneling through a potential barrier driven by a strong high-frequency electromagnetic field. It is demonstrated that the driven barrier can be considered as a stationary two-barrier potential which contains the quasi-stationary electron states confined between these two barriers. When the energy of an incident electron coincides with the energy of the quasi-stationary state, the driven barrier becomes fully transparent for the electron (the resonant tunneling).

One of the most common congenital metabolic disorders is familial hypercholesterolemia. Familial hypercholesterolemia is a condition caused by a type of genetic defect leading to a decreased rate of removal of low-density lipoproteins from the bloodstream and a pronounced increase in the blood level of total cholesterol. This disease leads to the early development of cardiovascular diseases of atherosclerotic etiology.

Currently, the efficacy of drug therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD leaves much to be desired, making nutraceutical support a promising avenue for treatment. Recent research has identified the protective effects of resveratrol in PTSD. Here, we tested the behavioral and neurobiological effects of combining cheese consumption with resveratrol supplements in an experimental PTSD model.

To date, few publications describe CEC's properties and possible applications-thus, further evaluation of these properties is a point of interest. The present in vitro model study aimed to evaluate a carboxyethylchitosan (CEC) gel with a degree of substitution of 1, cross-linked with glutaraldehyde at a polymer:aldehyde molar ratio of 10:1, as a potential carrier for delivering bacteriophages to various pH-fixed media (acidic, alkaline), and including gastrointestinal tract (GIT) variable medium. A quantitative analysis of bacteriophages released from the gel was performed using photon correlation spectrophotometry, and phage activity after emission into medium was evaluated using the spot test.

This work is dedicated to the study of the treatment of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with dichromic acid. The dichromic acid was formed by dissolving different concentrations of CrO in water. The effect of the concentration of dichromic acid on the change in texture characteristics, elemental composition, defectiveness, graphitization degree, and surface chemistry of MWCNTs was investigated using various analytical techniques, such as transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

The vacancy generation dynamics in doped semiconductor heterostructures with quantum dots (QD) formed in the cationic and anionic sublattices of AlAs is studied. We demonstrate experimentally that the vacancy-mediated high temperature diffusion is enhanced (suppressed) in n- and p-doped heterostructures with QDs formed in the cationic sublattice, while the opposite behavior occurs in the heterostructures with QDs formed in the anionic sublattice. A model describing the doping effect on the vacancy generation dynamics is developed.

Carbon materials are promising for use as electrodes for supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries due to a number of properties, such as non-toxicity, high specific surface area, good electronic conductivity, chemical inertness, and a wide operating temperature range. Carbon-based electrodes, with their characteristic high specific power and good cyclic stability, can be used for a new generation of consumer electronics, biomedical devices and hybrid electric vehicles. However, most carbon materials, due to their low electrical conductivity and insufficient diffusion of electrolyte ions in complex micropores, have energy density limitations in these devices due to insufficient number of pores for electrolyte diffusion.

Heterogeneous diffusion processes defined as a solution to the overdamped Langevin equation with multiplicative noise, the amplitude of which has a power-law space-dependent form, are studied. Particular emphasis is on discrete analogs of these processes, for which, in particular, an asymptotic estimate of their variance behavior in time is obtained. In addition, a class of processes formed by deformation of the discrete analog of the fractional Brownian motion using the Cantor ladder and its inverse transformation is considered.

The release of a spin probe (nitroxide radical) from polymer films was studied by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). The films were fabricated from starch having different crystal structures (A-, B-, and C-types) and disordering degrees. Film morphology (analysis of the scanning electron microscopy (SEM)) depended on the presence of dopant (nitroxide radical) to a larger extent rather than on crystal structure ordering or polymorphic modification.

Among cardiovascular diseases, chronic obliterating lesions of the arteries of lower extremities, which are one of the important problems of modern healthcare, are distinguished. In most cases, the cause of damage to the arteries of lower extremities is atherosclerosis. The most severe form is chronic ischemia, characterized by pain at rest and ischemic ulcers, ultimately increasing the risk of limb loss and cardiovascular mortality.
