Orofacial pain has been a prevalent symptom in the worldwide population, which may cause restrictions in daily activities and, consequently, have a great impact on the well-being of affected individuals. Photobiomodulation using light sources, such as low-level laser or light emitting diodes, with different wavelengths, has been widely used in the last years, in addition to being a noninvasive, low-cost resource and reducing pain. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of photobiomodulation as a protocol treatment to prevent facial muscle discomfort after long-term clinical procedures.

Trigeminal neuralgia is a recurrent episode of facial pain, that may be associated with other conditions such as multiple sclerosis, neoplasms, and nerve compromises or may occur due to an unknown cause. The available treatments are pharmacotherapy or surgery; however, both are susceptible to develop side effects. Photobiomodulation could be a promising alternative therapy for trigeminal neuralgia.

Methods: A randomized, blind, controlled clinical trial involving 58 participants aged from 12 to 17 years, who search the Department of Pediatric Dentistry of Universidade Metropolitana de Santos, will be conducted.

Aim: To test a chemical-mechanical method and antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (a-PDT) in combination to manage a deep dental carious lesion in a permanent molar pediatric patient.
Background: Due to specific characteristics of early-erupted teeth, as first permanent lower molars, techniques that provide less invasive tissue removal aiming keep healthy tooth parts, such as pulp tissue, are desired. Furthermore, especially to children, provide comfort, less noise and vibration are important issues that should be considered on the management of deep caries.

Purpose: In this study we aimed to compare the effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) and dexamethasone (DXM) on pain, swelling, and the quality-of-life (QOL) of patients submitted to buccal fat pad removal.
Patients And Methods: A total of 20 patients with pseudoherniation of buccal fat pad were included in the present study. The patients were divided randomly into 2 groups: the PBM group (660 nm, 100 mW, 6 seconds, 2 J/cm) and the DXM group (4 mg every 8 hours for 3 days after the procedure).

Background: Oral mucositis (OM) is an oral toxicity caused by cancer treatment, found often in patients with head and neck cancer. Low-intensity laser therapy for OM has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and tissue reparative properties.
Objective: The objective of this work is to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the randomized clinical trials of OM laser therapy in patients undergoing treatment for head and neck cancers, followed by a cost-effectiveness analysis of the therapy.

Aims: To investigate the effects of a combination of aerobic and resistance exercises and the inverse sequence on the hemodynamic parameters and indicators of arterial stiffness in healthy young adult subjects.
Methods: Fifteen subjects were randomized in a crossover procedure according to two experimental conditions: combined aerobic exercise (30 min of treadmill running, 75-80% - peak VO) followed by resistance exercise (5 exercises, 3 sets - 10 RM) (AR) or vice versa (RA). Data of the hemodynamic parameters and arterial stiffness were obtained at baseline and after exercise (post-10, post-20, and post-30 min).

Studies have presented conflicting findings regarding the association between both fluctuation and deprivation of ovarian hormones and cardiovascular autonomic modulation and oxidative stress and their potential impact on resting arterial pressure (AP) and cardiovascular risk. This study aimed to assess cardiovascular autonomic modulation, baroreflex sensitivity (BRS), and oxidative stress in male rats (M) and in female rats during ovulatory (FOV) and non-ovulatory phases (FNOV) of the estrous cycle and after deprivation of ovarian hormones (FO). Direct AP was recorded, and BRS was assessed by using increasing doses of phenylephrine and sodium nitroprusside.

A child with Down syndrome, like any other child, may benefit from interacting with memory stimuli, but needs additional support and help. The use of special teaching methods, which add playfulness and use of the computer, can enhance the memory processes of these children. In this work, we present the virtual environment "Nossa Vida (Our Life)", which was developed to assist children with Down syndrome to memorize action sequences of their daily routine.

Purpose: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) negatively impacts autonomic control of the heart rate, as assessed by time and frequency domains of heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. However, it is unknown whether symbolic dynamic analysis may identify cardiac autonomic impairment, and whether such nonlinear indices may be associated with disease severity, prognostic markers, perceived dyspnea and functional capacity in patients with COPD. The current study assessed cardiac autonomic modulation by symbolic analysis of HRV in patients with COPD compared with healthy controls.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive and chronic inflammatory disease with a poor prognosis and very few available treatment options. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has been gaining prominence as a new and effective anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory agent. Can lung inflammation and the airway remodeling be regulated by LLLT in an experimental model of IPF in C57Bl/6 mice? The present study investigated if laser attenuates cellular migration to the lungs, the airway remodeling as well as pro-fibrotic cytokines secretion from type II pneumocytes and fibroblasts.

Introduction: This study aimed to verify the effects of cigarette smoke exposure in bone mineralization and fibrillar matrix composition as well as in bone healing after tibial fracture induction.
Methods: C57Bl/6 Mice were assigned according to exposure and surgery: C room air; F room air and tibia open osteotomy; CS cigarette smoke; FCS cigarette smoke and tibia open osteotomy. In order to study fracture healing we performed, under anesthesia, a bone injury through a tibial shaft osteotomy.

Background: Surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion (SARME) generates an uncomfortable postoperative period accompanied by pain, edema, and paresthesia. There are few studies on the effect of photobiomodulation (PBM) after SARME and it was not possible to find studies on the efficacy of light emitted by diode (LED) after this type of intervention. The main objective of the study will be to evaluate the efficacy of PBM with LED in the control of pain, facial edema, paresthesia, and bone repair after SARME.

This demand for faster results generated orthodontic movement acceleration protocols (OMAPs); among other OMAPs we present low-level laser (LLL) as a candidate. Objectives: Some pro-inflammatory lipids derived from 1 lipooxygenase enzyme are potent neutrophil chemoattractant, a cell centrally involved in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS); a syndrome lacking effective treatment. Considering the beneficial effects of the leukotriene receptor inhibitor, montelukast, on other lung diseases, whether montelukast attenuates inflammation in a mouse model of ARDS, and whether it reduces LPS stimulated activation of human neutrophils was investigated.
Methods: Thirty-five C57Bl/6 mice were distributed into control (PBS)+24h, LPS+24h (10μg/mouse), control+48h, LPS+48h, and LPS 48h+Montelukast (10mg/kg).

Hepatojugular reflux (HJR), described as a sign of regurgitation of the tricuspid valve, may reflect structural and functional changes of the LV in the hypertensive patient. In response to stimuli in the microenvironment, macrophages adopt either the M1 or M2 phenotype to coordinate the tissue repair process. Photobiomodulation (PBM) plays an important role in the modulation of acute inflammation, including cellular influx, macrophage polarization, and the release of inflammatory mediators. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of red and infrared PBM on the mRNA expression of cytokines and chemokines in macrophages polarized to the M1 and M2 phenotypes.

Background: Individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD), in addition to motor impairment, may evolve with respiratory and autonomic nervous system disorders. Currently, there are few studies with emphasis on muscle and pulmonary dysfunction and that verify the benefits of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) in this population.
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether IMT is effective for the improvement of respiratory muscle strength, lung function, thoracic mobility, functional capacity and cardiac autonomic function in PD.
