Article Synopsis
  • Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1) can mimic symptoms of Glioblastoma (GBM), complicating diagnosis, and there’s limited research on how these illnesses coexist.
  • A review identified 20 cases where HSV-1 caused herpetic encephalitis (HSE) in GBM patients, revealing an overall survival rate of just 8 months, with a notable predictor being the timing of HSE diagnosis.
  • The presence of HSE in GBM patients may lead to worse survival outcomes, but early diagnosis of HSE could enhance survival prospects due to immune response activation; hence, immediate antiviral treatment is crucial.
