G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) endocytosis is canonically associated with β-arrestins. Here, we delineate a β-arrestin-independent endocytic pathway driven by the cytoskeletal motor, myosin VI. Myosin VI engages GIPC, an adaptor protein that binds a PDZ sequence motif present at the C-terminus of several GPCRs.

The healthcare sector significantly contributes to global greenhouse gas emissions, with surgical pathology (SP) playing a notable role. This review explores the ecological transformation of SP, offering a global overview of existing challenges and sustainable initiatives worldwide. While some countries, such as the UK and France, have developed national strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of healthcare, including SP, many regions remain at an early stage of implementing green practices.

Although calcification in the cardiovascular system is highly studied, the mechanisms behind it are not well understood. Current proposed mechanisms focus on cellular processes leading to, or controlling the unwanted mineralization in soft tissues. However, extracellular components such as collagen and elastin fundamentally regulate the mechanical properties of heart tissues.

Metasurfaces, composed of artificial meta-atoms of subwavelength size, can support strong light-matter interaction based on multipolar resonances and plasmonics, hence offering the great capability of empowering nonlinear generation. Recently, owing to their ability to manipulate the amplitude and phase of the nonlinear emission in the subwavelength scale, metasurfaces have been recognized as ultra-compact, flat optical components for a vast range of applications, including nonlinear imaging, quantum light sources, and ultrasensitive sensing. This review focuses on the recent progress on nonlinear metasurfaces for those applications.

Background: Evidence suggests that postpartum recovery takes longer than 6 weeks. However, evidence-based recommendations regarding postpartum recovery are lacking. Current research mainly focuses on shortening hospital stay after childbirth, neglecting outpatient recovery.

COPD is a heterogeneous disease of the lungs characterised by restricted airflow. Chronic inflammation and recurrent bacterial infections are known to be important driving factors in exacerbations of this disease. Despite a marked increase in the number of alveolar macrophages present in the lungs of COPD patients, there is evidence of reduced clearance of pathogenic bacteria, leading to recurrent infection, exacerbation and subsequent lung function decline.

Demethylation of N-Methyladenosine (m6A) by fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) occurs in the development of obesity and fatty liver disease. In this study, we synthesized FTO-degradation targeted chimera (FTO-DT), which exhibited excellent lipid-lowering activity at low concentration. At a concentration of 0.

It has been hypothesised that skeletal muscle protein turnover is affected by menstrual cycle phase with a more anabolic environment during the follicular vs. the luteal phase. We assessed the influence of menstrual cycle phase on muscle protein synthesis and myofibrillar protein breakdown in response to 6 days of controlled resistance exercise in young females during peak oestrogen and peak progesterone, using stable isotopes, unbiased metabolomics and muscle biopsies.

Local haemodynamics control arterial homeostasis and dysfunction by generating wall shear stress (WSS) which regulates endothelial cell (EC) physiology. Here we use a zebrafish model to identify genes that regulate EC proliferation in response to flow. Suppression of blood flow in zebrafish embryos (by targeting cardiac troponin) reduced EC proliferation in the intersegmental vessels (ISVs) compared to controls exposed to flow.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of the dexamethasone implant on the electrophysiological profile of Diabetic Macular Oedema (DMO) patients over six months.
Methods: In this prospective, single-center study 30 eyes of 22 patients were examined using comprehensive baseline assessments including best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central retinal thickness (CRT), contrast sensitivity (CS) and multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG), before and after 0.7mg dexamethasone implant injection, with follow-ups at months 1, 2, 4, and 6.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has raised discussion over the connection between viral infections and the biology of cancer. Research has investigated the relationship between signaling pathways stimulated by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that may be involved in the progression of cancer, resistance to chemotherapy, and metastasis. However, the exact cellular and molecular mechanisms of the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on cancer progression, chemo-resistance, metastasis, and recurrence have not been fully understood.

Objective: We aimed to study the disease course, outcomes, and predictors of outcome in pediatric-onset antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) affecting the kidneys.
Methods: Patients eligible for this study had a diagnosis of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), microscopic polyangiitis, or ANCA-positive pauci-immune glomerulonephritis, were 18 years or younger at diagnosis, had renal disease defined by biopsy or dialysis dependence, and had clinical data at diagnosis and at either 12 or 24 months. Ambispective data from A Registry for Children with Vasculitis/Pediatric Vasculitis Initiative Registry was used.

The intricate cellular process, known as the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), significantly influences solid tumors development. Changes in cell shape, metabolism, and gene expression linked to EMT facilitate tumor cell invasion, metastasis, drug resistance, and recurrence. So, a better understanding of the intricate processes underlying EMT and its role in tumor growth may lead to the development of novel therapeutic approaches for the treatment of solid tumors.
