Biotechnology Research Laboratory, Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Babol Noshirvani University of Technology, Shariati Avenue, Babol 47148-71167, Iran. Electronic address:

A myriad of therapeutic agents and drug delivery systems are available to the surgeons for treating orthopedic implant-associated infections (OIAI), but only very few have demonstrated their effectiveness in preventing bacteria colonization and biofilm formation due to challenges in the local and sustainable therapeutic release. To address this issue, in this work, a thermosensitive injectable hydrogel based on chitosan (CH)-integrated hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HAP NPs) containing vancomycin (Van) and quercetin (QC)-loaded in F127 micelles (CH-HAP-FQ-Van hydrogel) was fabricated with potential application in the treatment of OIAI. This dual drug delivery system demonstrated a pH-sensitive drug release pattern.

In this study, cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) were successfully isolated from rapeseed straw (RS) whose valorization has been rarely investigated to date. A combined bleaching method without chlorine was applied for the purification of cellulose fibers, previously unexplored for RS. Chemical composition analysis and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated that the purification method eliminated hemicellulose and reduced lignin content from 24.

The motion of the fluid due to the swirling of a disk/sheet has many applications in engineering and industry. Investigating these types of problems is very difficult due to the non-linearity of the governing equations, especially when the governing equations are to be solved analytically. Time is also considered a challenge in problems, and times dependent problems are rare.

A novel and first electrochemical biosensor based on Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) as a biological component to measure an antimigraine drug, rizatriptan benzoate (RZB) for patients under treatment in biological samples was developed. A carbon paste electrode (CPE) was modified by calf thymus (CT) double-stranded (ds)-DNA, nickel ferrite magnetic nanoparticles (NiFeONPs), and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The morphology of the CT-DNA/NiFeONPs/AuNPs/CPE was characterized by Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM).

In this study, a novel internally illuminated mirror photobioreactor (IIM-PBR) was designed to improve microalgae biomass production through providing a homogenous light distribution in cultivation medium. The performance of the IIM-PBR was compared with internally illuminated control photobioreactor (IIC-PBR) and externally illuminated control photobioreactor (EIC-PBR) in terms of cell growth, wastewater treatment and bioproducts generation. Compared with the IIC-PBR and EIC-PBR, the IIM-PBR increased microalgae growth rate up to 60 % and 30%, respectively.

This study investigates the fabrication of edible coating based on Plantago ovata seed mucilage (POSM). The films were prepared from POSM (1 %, w/v), glycerol (75 %, based on POSM mass), and xanthan gum (XG: 20, 30 and 40 %, based on POSM mass) by a casting method, and their physicochemical, mechanical, thermal, morphological, and barrier properties were determined. Results indicated the development of highly transparent (transparency values: 1.

Turbulent flow of oil based hybrid nanofluid within an absorber tube of concentrated solar system has been evaluated in this article. To concentrate the solar irradiation, the parabolic plate has been located below the tube and variable heat flux was considered as the boundary condition of the tube. The presence of a turbulator within the circular tube causes secondary flow to increase.

The advent of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has led to noteworthy progressions in the management of diverse cancer types, as evidenced by the pioneering "ipilimumab" medication authorized by US FDA in 2011. Importantly, ICIs agents have demonstrated encouraging potential in bringing about transformation across diverse forms of cancer by selectively targeting the immune checkpoint pathways that are exploited by cancerous cells for dodging the immune system, culminating in progressive and favorable health outcomes for patients. The primary mechanism of action (MOA) of ICIs involves blocking inhibitory immune checkpoints.

In this research, the potential application of Pistacia soft shell (PSS) was investigated as a novel bio-based flocculant for pulp and paper wastewater (PPWW) treatment. In line with this, after characterization of the PSS, the removal efficiencies of chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity and heavy metals (Cu and Pb) from PPWW were investigated with different dosage of PSS. The results were compared with alum as a reference flocculant.

The geometric characteristics of a saccular aneurysm play a crucial role in its rupturing. This article thoroughly investigates the impact of the sac centerline on aneurysm rupture, with a focus on identifying significant factors related to rupture at different time intervals. The study employs comprehensive computational simulations of six models of the ICA with varying coiling porosities and blood HCTs, using CFD analysis to examine WSS, OSI, pressure, and velocity within the saccular aneurysm for different sac centerlines.

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) serve two main purposes: clean energy production and wastewater treatment. This study examines the impact of different carbon sources on MFC performance and develops a mathematical model to replicate the polarization curve. The biological reactor employed three types of carbon sources: glucose as a simple feed, microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), and a slurry of the organic component of municipal solid waste (SOMSW) as complex feeds.

In this article, the semi-analytical technique of the Hybrid Analytical and Numerical Method (the HAN Method) is used to study the non-transient forced non-Newtonian MHD Reiner-Rivlin viscoelastic fluid motion that is constrained between two plates. The magnetic field is also present in this model. The governing equations are in the PDE form and by using the Von Kármán similarity variables, they transformed into a set of ODEs.

New horizon in fuzzy distributions: statistical distributions in continuous domains generated by Choquet integral.

Soft comput

June 2023

Department of Mathematics and Descriptive Geometry, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Slovak University of Technology, SK-81005 Bratislava, Slovakia.

In this paper, some statistical properties of the Choquet integral are discussed. As an interesting application of Choquet integral and fuzzy measures, we introduce a new class of exponential-like distributions related to monotone set functions, called , by combining the properties of Choquet integral with the exponential distribution. We show some famous statistical distributions such as gamma, logistic, exponential, Rayleigh and other distributions are a special class of Choquet distributions.
